What are the best games that you've ever played? You can list them however you want (in a specific order, randomly, top ten, top twenty, etc.)
This is my list in no particular order:
Devil May Cry 3
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts II
Gears of Wars
Gears of War 2
Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time (This is the oldest game on my list and it's one of the best platformers ever, admittably.)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (the PS2/Xbox versions. This seriously is a really, really good game)
Psychonauts (it's too bad more people didn't play the game, it could've had a great sequel)
Prey (I'm not too sure about adding this, but it's one of the games that stands out to me, so I did)
That's all that I can think of for now. I might change my list around, I haven't played most of those games in years. There are a few games I'm thinking of adding, as well. I like a lot of games, but I couldn't think of many that stood out like these.

I despised Half Life and then made the mistake of giving HL2 a chance. I thought it was grossly overhyped and overrated. Outside of that, most picks are good so far.

Hello All,
I need your help!
I noticed Half Life 2 already has quite a few recommendations. I was hoping you guys could convice me to spend the time and finally finish the game.
A bit of history first: I still remember the great memories I had back in high school, staying up late, rushing home after school to load up the PC and continue my journey with Half Life 1. I remember the nightmares I had keeping me up all night...no head crab no!!!! I remember the great feeling I had when I finally finished the game. I continued to play HLDM and then CS all the way till 2004.
Then finally, November 2004, after years of waiting, countless hours of reading and preparing, Half life 2 was purchased through steam. I tried to like this game, I really did. But there was just something about the tone and perhaps my poor fps, I just couldn't get into it. I probably only got an hour into the game before I called it quits. The game also gave me horrible motion sickness (note: it is the only game where I had this problem. Played fps from doom, quake, duke nukem 3d, was addicted to CS for 4 years and now gears of war 2...no problems at all!).
Around that time was the end of my pc gaming life.. I started a new job met an amazing girl and got a small thinkpad (partly for the portability, partly for the fact that I could NOT run good games on it). PS2 and eventually Xbox360 filled the void.
I tried picking up HL2 on the xbox, but also, just could not get into it.
Now come November 2009 (five years later) I will probably get my new laptop. It won't be a gaming machine, but good enough to run HL2 for sure. I most likely will get Orange Box (want to play cs source, tfc2 etc.) which includes Half Life 2.
Now I ask those of you who put HL2 on your list, please please please convince me to suck it up and finish this game! Half life 1 is probably top 3 on my list, I REALLY want to get into HL2! Do you think I would still get the motion sickness even with a new laptop? Are Eps 1 and 2 really amazing as well?

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
"you've ever" is a contraction for "you have ever" which is in the past tense.
if he said the best game "you'll ever play" then you could say "i don't know, it hasn't happened yet" -
Semantics.
"You have ever", although I agree can qualify as past tense, is somewhat of a contradiction since "have" is present tense. -
In no particular order.....
Tombraider
Syphon filter
Metal gear solid
FF7
Chronocross
Baldarsgate series
Elderscrolls morrowind
Redalert2
Diablo2
Company of heroes -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
"I have five dollars" is present tense.
"I have played in the pool" is past tense (technically present-perfect tense, but describing a past event nonetheless)
you can read about present perfect tense on wikipedia. -
Half-Life 2 has won countless awards and Game of the Year titles since its release, and it's for a good reason. It must be doing something right if so many people love it, right?
The Source engine brought some huge innovations to the first person shooter genre, especially physics and realistic character and facial animations. This engine has been the underlying technology for all Valve games since then, including Counter-Strike: Source, the Half-Life 2 expasion Episodes One and Two, Portal, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, and the upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 and Half-Life 2 Episode Three. There have also been hundreds of extremely popular independent games released as mods based on the Source engine, like Zombie Panic: Source and Pirates Vikings & Knights II.
The game's storyline follows where the original Half-Life left off when Gordon Freeman was put in stasis by the G-Man. 20 years have passed since then, and the game starts off introducing you to the new environment, City 17, and the new enemies of mankind, the Combine. It becomes clear that you're part of the same plot as before, and yet it doesn't feel like just more of the same old Half-Life. I find the storyline in HL2 to be much more driving and intense than the original Half-Life.
It's easily one of the best games I've ever played. I'm not sure why it gave you motion sickness before; that's usually something to do with display refresh and ghosting. Hopefully your new machine's configuration will be better in this regard, and you won't be affected anymore.
If you want to give the game another chance, try this: when you get your new system and the Orange Box, play through Half-Life 2 until the end of the mission "Black Mesa East". This should give you a pretty wide sample of the gameplay elements, including the unforgettably awesome Gravity Gun. If you're still not impressed after that, then I'm afraid there's nothing more I can do for you.
Anyway, now on to my actual favorite games of all time.
- Half-Life series. Pretty much speaks for itself.
- Halo 1 for PC. Very moddable, and great online multiplayer, with extra weapons and maps not present in the Xbox version.
- Team Fortress 2. Most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game.
- Counter-Strike: Source. Tried and true competitive FPS classic.
- Call of Duty 4. In competitive terms, easily in the same league as Counter-Strike. And the singleplayer campaign is a standard for all to follow. I don't think it will be showed up by anything short of Modern Warfare 2.
- Unreal Tournament 2004. Amazing graphics that still hold up today, and the best twitch-shooter ever in my opinion.
- Medal of Honor series. The definitive WWII first-person shooter games, from the original Medal of Honor for the PlayStation in the 1990s, to Medal of Honor: Airborne in 2008. None have let me down so far.
- Left 4 Dead. Very innovative co-op based zombie shooter. Fast-paced and excellent atmosphere. It doesn't just encourage teamwork, it forces it on you. I eagerly await the sequel this November.

HL2 had great graphics and great music and the gravity gun was fun, the problem was how the story changed. I liked going to xen, I liked the enemies (I guess HL2 had more human enemies compared to the large number of weird enemies in HL1). HL2 wen't in the wrong direction for me.

In descending order:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Bioshock
Battlefield 2
Civilization IV
Crysis
Note: All of these are very close, except for COD4, which is a bit above the rest. -
That being said, I found that this was mostly the first half to three quarters of the game. The end of the game had much better pacing and was alot more enjoyable for me.
The pacing of the episodes were much better as was the general plot development movement, which is why I liked them better. -
1. TES IV: Oblivion hands down
2: Test Drive Unlimited
3. CoD4
4. CS:S -
Deus Ex
Space Quest Series (minus #6)
Privateer I
Wing Commander I-III
Monkey Island Series
Pirates!
Oblivion
Morrowind -

Half-Life (all of them)
Bioshock
Portal
God of War (PS2)

Mario Kart (Wii)
When did you play them?
There's a big difference between experiencing HL1 in 1999 vs 2009. Anyways, each to his own *shrugs*, but despise seems rather strong and melodramatic. Dislike would be more appropriate me thinks.
