So yeah I got a The Crew closed beta key and I first tested it on my laptop so I thought I might share some info for you guys.
Here's some important notes to take in consideration first :
1. The game is locked at 30fps, this is a closed beta so they might go for 60 but not sure.
2. The game has the same s****y driving mechanics from Watch Dogs, it's simply horrible!
3. Framedrops below 30 might ruin your gameplay completely, the controls becomes highly unresponsive. At 20fps it's unplayable.
The game was running at ultra 1080p, everything was on ultra, motion blur was off, anti-aliasing was on fxaa, msaa gives me a hard time.
My specs : i7 4800mq stock, Radeon 8970 stock clocks, 16gb ram,
FPS : 30
Average fps : 30 ( always stays at 30 )
Avg CPU temp : 66
Avg GPU temp : 72
UPDATE : The Crew closed beta number 2 is NOW LIVE !!!

Thanks for the sharing, Ubisoft has gotten so trashy with their optimization in recent years I stopped bothering buying their games even if they're sort of ok.
That and the dumbing down of mechanics and the lack of polish on everything.D2 Ultima likes this. -
Basically the only cars i could kinda drive in Watch_Dogs was muscle cars but if they used Watch_Dogs physics in The Crew makes me want to skip it. Rather enjoy Project CARS or (the PS4 exclusive) DriveClub. When i want to play racing games i expect the cars to handle somewhat good.
-
Aww dang it. I was told that I had v-sync enabled by default and now it's too late because the beta is over. So I can't see what was my real fps :/
And yeah the handling is still pretty terrible. Turning feels like jello -
You can unlock the 30fps frame lock in the config file.

Is far cry 3 the only good game by ubisoft? It is the only ubisoft game I play thankfully!!
Just hope they only improve upon what came before with the fourth instalment!! -

You have a point but also there is no alternative to the open world fun fc provides. If there was I would buy it!

Also you should try the game now at stock clocks I can set all settings at max. Only AA I leave off because it glitches. The game without AA runs butter smooth these days!
-
Turning off AA is unacceptable to me because that's why I buy nice video cards is to jack up the graphics settings and make consoles cry. If I wanted weak AA I'd play all my games on my PS4...
Unfortunately all these bad ports going on, I may have to start moving my gaming that way anyway although Ubisoft screwed the pooch on that one too with Watch Dogs...

I have to admit. Playing the crew with FXAA was an ugly jaggie mess. The only other options are 4 x MSAA and 8 x MSAA. But putting the two of those puts the game down to 20fps and less.
Also to point out that car collisions with traffic are pretty atrocious, the most accurate example would be this Driver (PC) Game Review - YouTube -
Yeah I have to agree with Ethrem here. The only game I want to hear "you can't max this game, your PC isn't strong enough" for is Star Citizen, because
1 - HNGGG GRAPHICS
2 - Cryengine 3
3 - Space. Dogfighting. Lasers. Missiles. Explosions. Yes.
Anything from Ubisoft or EA needs to go back in the shop and optimize itself thank you very much. I'm not saying I absolutely MUST max out every single game I play... but you can betchya I will at least make it look rather pretty even if I have to compromise a little (125fps on BF4 needs some compromising) -

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat with Pripyat Complete mod *FAR* surpasses Crysis 3's shallow level of world immersion. There's factions and people you can side with, changes to the way others treat you if you amass a certain amount of wealth, the need to upkeep weapons and armour, weight limits and radiation deals... that game alone is something great. It's a pity it takes a bit to get it running well.

will they include 2xmsaa or smaa in final product?4xmsaa is too much and not needed for gaming on notebook
-
To be fair 2 patches later and most of the stuttering is gone. Actually I'm one of the lucky few(?) that didn't experience too much stuttering even for the pre-patch game. In any case, I managed to finish the game even before the first patch was released.
-
I definitely notice aliasing on 15.6" 1080p, so I always use at least FXAA, which is pretty much free.

cant wait for this game to come out
...finally a well optimized game from ubisoft as far i saw on youtube...Hope project cars will also be optimised good

Runs good enough on medium, 720p. Config in my signature. No lag at all, nice net-code

It looks like Ubisoft putted an artificial 30fps lock in the game. Even if you disable vsync, there's a frame rate settings and it's greyed out at 30. Ubisoft is actually pushing for 60fps on pc so that's good news.
I was using the ultra preset with my 8970m, it never drops below 30fps if you put it in FXAA, 4x msaa kills everything,
So I did a road trip just for fun. The first part is in red, after two hours I took a break in the mountains. Then I drove the second part in orange, it might have taken more than two hours, driving high in the mountains is a chore lol. http://i.imgur.com/T2Qvr5P.jpg
So it took me about 4 hours. Also it was fun how New York reminded me of GTA 4 and Los Angeles of GTA 5, the feel is like exactly the same! The layout is almost identical with the buildings and all, only the streets are different.
But Chicago looks like an ugly version of Watch Dogs.

If any one wonders if it runs on a low end and/or old laptop, i have tried in my old laptop with a 9650m gt ddr2 and i was getting about 18-22 fps at 720p with lowest settings possible, just as reference -
36fps - Ultra
44fps - High
52fps - Medium
60fps - Low
Stays stable most of the time, might drop 4-5 fps in cities -
Of course, game was designed for 30 FPS by Ubisoft.
-
I'm gonna give this a try just to see how bad it is...

60FPS seems buggy -- after playing an hour my headlights came on even though it was noon, then the game would randomly start stuttering even when it said I was running 60 frames. Had none of these problems when running 30 FPS.
-
Skyrim does this if you pass 60fps while playing. Hell, look at this that happened to me playing Skyrim a long time ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw7sH7mUpKk -
LOL Skyrim, another $hitty console port that took the dedication of the mod community to fix because Bugthesda doesn't give a crap and knows they have modders covering their asses.
-
Will I play those games? Possibly. Depends on how "bad" they are and how easy it is to fix the "bad". Skyrim is infinitely easier to fix on a single-gpu system with a 60Hz screen than it is to fix on a system like mine.
Some games are just too far gone. CoD: Ghosts' MP and co-op were prime examples. I had no controllers plugged in and played Extinction a week or two after release. What happened? The ENTIRE IN-GAME BUTTON PROMPTS WERE FOR XBOX 1. I had to hit random keys on the keyboard to get my power ups to work because there was no way to set the buttons for them in the options menu. They were defaultly bound to 1, 2, 3 and 4, but the order was odd. Up was 2, down was 3, left and right were 1 and 4 or something. I can't even remember, it was so long ago. And the game stuttered to all hell; I was dropping as low as 30fps at times. THIRTY FPS? ON MY COMPUTER? EXCUSE ME?
And MP was even worse, with in-game backward features like: No ping bar. Scoreboard being stuck at the top right of the game screen and you must pick between a killfeed with your own personal k/d/etc in a small bar, or both team's K/D/etc and no rolling killfeed. Couple that with IW being silent on PC issues for days until they told us "ok fine go use fov changers", then started banning people for it without warning 2 months later, for an in-game fov slider to come out about a month and a half after bans were handed out. Know what that sounds like? A game I do not need to play for any reason.
I no longer buy anything from EA, and their current "advancements" in making games release well are not even phasing me now. Maybe by 2016 if they keep it up I'll start praising them more. Ubisoft should not have a single product bought by anyone on any platform ever, after all the lying and back-tracking they've done about it all. Not even considering performance bugs, but just on principle as a company. Activision should just make games for consoles and forget about PC entirely unless one of their studios actually wants to make an attempt at a proper port. And I get activision games for *FREE* on steam, and I'm saying this. I'd rather they come out good or not at all after some of the stuff I've seen.
Games development is costing more on a whole lot of things that have just about nothing to do with the development of the actual game. Devs need to sell more to make enough profit to circumvent the hundreds of millions they pour into each game, and they're rushing or simply not caring enough and doing a whole set of stupid stuff in all the supposedly AAA games. Look at MGS 5. If your game looks equal to or worse than that, you best be getting 1080p 60fps on a PS4 at any given time and I best be able to play that game at 60fps 1080p maxed out in 3D on my laptop WHILE STREAMING IT. Hmph. Man I got so annoyed just now I just went on this long stupid extremely derailing rant about video games in general. It's not even 2am yet and I'm writing small books. I think my internal clock changed.
Anyway... who says storm ubisoft offices with PS4s attached to pitchforks and smack them until they understand "optimization"? -
French Revolution, indeed.

Is it just me, or is Alex totally GORDAN FREEMAN?
