If it makes you feel better, I guess. Just don't claim that logic is on your side.

With all due respect to them, what a stupid publicity stunt. It's a good thing they have a virtual monopoly on the market that they sell to.
I work for FileFront, an online file hosting and gaming network. At the end of March 2009, the company who previously owned us, Ziff Davis Media, went completely under, and basically yanked the plug on FileFront without telling anyone. People logged in and saw a message similar to the one on GoG.
Long story short, a group of FileFront employees and other generous people bought back FileFront the very next day, in time to save it from complete Internet annihilation.
Now, as it happened, this occurred barely two days before April 1st, aka April Fools' Day. Once the site came back, everyone thought it was an April Fools' prank in poor taste. Many people took their business elsewhere, including some of the gaming world's biggest modding communities, and the Battlefield Forgotten Hope dev team. We're still trying to recover from that fiasco over a year later.
tl;dr - if there was any sort of alternative to GoG out there, they almost certainly would have gone the same way FileFront did for this PR stunt. -
Even though they may have a monopoly, the market probably wouldn't bear two similar sites. Not to mention the low tolerance for high prices on old games. I'm ok spending $5 or $6 for a classic that I might enjoy for a little bit. Or $10 for a high quality game I never got to play or to replace a CD or DVD to have it digitally.

Glad to see that what I had read about GoG was spot on.
Man, I hate it when they pull moves like that. -

lol, the whole thing with the monks is pretty corny. Is this how Euro devs roll?
Congratulations though for anyone who's been waiting for BG.

LOL. I don't feel so bad about not shaving on a regular basis now.
Kinda crazy. Just still don't get why they just took the site down, they could at least have said Gog is down to become bigger and better, not say good-bye.
Oh well, glad to see they're coming back. I don't care much about Baldur's Gate really, but hope they come up with some other great stuff. -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
He (or she) is not retaliating against GOG for staying in business. The decision to withhold purchases is a response to the little publicity stunt they pulled. If they were on the brink of collapse and were pulled back at the eleventh hour, it would be irrational to withhold the business you intended to do with them, but considering that their business was never actually in danger - it was all just a publicity stunt - withholding custom is a very reasonable reaction: not as effective as combining it with a vocal complaint, but nevertheless totally reasonable.
Personally, I'm glad they're still in business, but, notwithstanding my comments several days ago, I will not be patronizing their site for a while, with the same intention in mind as Syberia has - to silently express my disapproval of their stunt.
