Well, i just got out of game with a fellow NBR-er and we decided to make a DotA thread in order to see who plays and to get games set up.

    So.
    http://www.dota-allstars.com/

    ^ Dota :D

Ok, so we are working on maybe a Ventrillo server for us, so if any one wants to make one or something, let me know!

So, post here if you play DotA, and you can put your Battle.net name too!

    My BN is aan310

I like to play DotA every once and a while, but often times don't enjoy as much because you deal with all the back lash of sucking, and having every one get on your case.

There's a buddy list in BNet, but I'm not sure if it works across servers. Probably not.

Anyways, if I'm really desperate - IE, if none of my friends are playing and my Garena happens to not be working - then I play on USWest, with the username fccy56ud3. Yes. No typos there.

For each server (east coast, west, europe, and asia) You have to make a new account. And so your friends don't come, you only have friends that are on the same server I believe.

There were a few DoTa like maps that I liked better when I used to play.

I want to say one of them, my favorite was called land of legends?

It has some really cool hero units and abilities.

    Also just found this: http://www.dotapod.com/

Dota Pod, I dont know the full details but apparently you can play DOTA right from your browser on very fast servers with additional tracking and things.

you do need WC3 installed and up to date.

I might play a little bit when I get back, but I was thinking about just playing Demigod online instead.

Well, if like me you live outside the continental US, playing on BNet seems to induce noticeable lag. Seems like they route commands from server to the US to the client. Either that, or there's some crappy networking code going on.

And yes. Pirates can't BNet either, but that's a moot point here, assuming we're all playing legit versions... We are, aren't we?

Nick was 2k5.lexi on european bnet, maybe ill move to us east. lets see, because of the timeshift for me if there are enough games open-

Silencer is great for highly competitive games where people actually work togeather since his ult is perfect for surprising the other team in a team battle. Unfortunately, he has no escape mechanism and has low health so that in normal pubs, he isn't that great since noone ever understands proper team coordination.

    My favorites:

Lycan: Go jungle, get vlads first, then str treads, and then BKB. Everything dies...

Broodmother: Go jungle, get vlads, agility treads, then BKB. Everything dies too....

Tinker: Mid solo with bottle. Rune camp like hell and rush for a BoT. After BoT, go get a Shivas, tri lane push. All the while, go gank like hell. -> GG.

Storm Panda: I start with 5 GG branches, 2 sets of tangos. Rush for Bloodstone. If you get it quickly enough, you're set

Chen: Because nothing is better than a lvl 2 first blood.

    And loads more....

Won't usually happen in competitive play. And juggernaut with boots is a bad idea. General rule: never start with boots on any hero.

I've had it happen in more than a few occasions with some careless harassers :) and boots on him is so you won't move slower than the enemy hero so you can constantly stay on them when you're blade fury'ing

edit: but yes, I do agree that otherwise boots is a bad item to start with

Yeah it does happen sometimes but if the people you're playing against are careful, it shouldn't.

Basically the thing with bfury is that just go lane with a disabler. You won't have to sacrifice +stats then for boots.

    Edit:

Anyone here misses the old bdagger? It was so imbalanced but everyone abused them so it became more even.....ahh....the good old days where you're whole team can blink in and out at a moment's notice.....

Old blink dagger was stupid. Chain stun to get a single kill T_T.

And Silencer is an extremely poor pick, never seen in competitive play...he doesn't do anything well, and doesn't contribute to how the -game plays out at all, at least for the last .5X versions and into the 6.60s.

true, I actually play with a buddy of mine a lot and we always choose heroes that combo's well

what was the old bdagger again? besides that there were no restrictions as to which heroes could use it, was there also not that restriction where you can't be hit a few seconds before you use it?

The old blink dagger was awesome, the new one is just worthless. It's been years since I played competitively, but we'd run silencer in some of our games. One of my friends could dominate with him. If anyone played competitively/TDA more than a year or so ago you might know him, Fenix(TME) on USeast.

I love the werewolf whatever his name is... Been a whilr since I played dota, I mean years and years, anyway forget about going into a lane with him I'd always just go creeping for the few first lvl's so that my main team would have an exp advantage. Mind you lvling up was slow till you became strong enough to kill off centaurs, Then it raced up and yeah it worked.

Anyway, you go off and help with a lane once you reach lvl 8 I think, (everyone else should be around 6-7 by then, centaurs really gave alot of exp then) and just harass between the lanes... Though I never played competitively though.

    Blink dagger worthless? O_O

It's core on any initiating hero, and essentially core on several other heroes, mainly some Int and Agi ones...also depends on ur style of play, whether u follow a competitive Asian lineup with "stranger" heroes than u would see in european competitive dota.

She WAS a god in .52e and the farm farm farm farm for an hour games, but now she's a guaranteed loss against decent players XD. Far too weak, doesn't fit with the metagame at all

yah TC is ridiculous, GUARANTEED initiation from 1500-2000 range with spirit/stomp, an ult that, if used in conjuction with any other initiation, guarantees u the win in any teamfight...broken hero T_T.

Dirge is arguably more broken, just so good in so many ways. One of the hardest heroes to kill during the laning phase, insanely good spellset, and an ult that makes babies cry just hearing about it XD

As for Garena, the vast majority of players are on in are absolute . I mean, they are HORRIBLE. Even in the "high level" rooms its substandard play (i.e, boots first, tinkers that dont gank, enigmas that lane, etc). TDA is/was considerably better in terms of player quality, though TDA players have declined considerably in their ability as compared to a while back...

True, it is not THAT bad right now, but its worthless compared to how imba it was before. You were used to be able to justify getting it on almost any hero just because of the mobility and escape mechanism it gave you. Now, its just limited to those initiating heroes (Tiny, ES, and those likes)
