Oblivion...i'm a sucker for eyecandy. With all the expansions this game is HUGE...i added some other mods and along with all expansion things it took up 12gb. Super excellent game though.

Morrowind is much deeper and open (and less guided) than Oblivion, great story and good graphics if you mod it with hi-res textures.Sure it don't look as good as Oblivion but i remeber i have enjoyed more...
Oblivion isn't a true rpg cause the interaction with NPC is terrible and after you have a new quest you can simply open your GPS system click on the point, take the quest-object,reclick to give the object to complete your quest.I mean even GTA is more RPG than Oblivion!!! But if you mod the game (one of this disable the GPS system) it's more real and funny :)

metaldeath is right, Morrowind was sooo much deeper and much more involving.
Oblivion is far easier to beat as all you do is click where to go next, do the mission, and click where to go after that on the map and get the prize for the quest.
Although Oblivion's eye candy was pretty darn good.

Thanks everyone, it looks like they're both worth owning I guess, but most people like III more than IV.

Morrowind was fantastic much better imo than Oblivion. Could someone point me in the right direction for the high res textures as I've been thinking about replaying it.

I remember having Morrowind Olympics with a friend.. I won the long jump with my ebony high speed leaping boots of doom! You could jump for miles but had to make sure you landed on the high mountains or it was instant death...(unless you used an elevation spell at the last minute!) remember the chap who falls out of the sky at the begining of the game? ... he was the inspiration! :D

hmm I know what I'm doing tonight! thanks for the reminders about it!

great! thanks for the links metaldeath!

hmm now I just have to decide on which character to go with (if I remember right I restarted Morrowind 8 times until I was finally happy with my character).

Thanks for the links ronkotus! it's spooky I was just getting on to beefing up the textures and thought I'd have a quick look at nbr whilst something was downloading!

I've reinstalled Morrowind (incidentally it works a treat on Vista HP 64bit) and also installed the Bloodmoon add on. As far as mods go I've installed the better bodies and rhedds heads for now and they're a big improvement thanks metaldeath. I think textures and texture fixes will have to wait until tomorrow, it's getting late!

Oblivion is a wonderful game, and its not the graphics alone which make it a worthy game. It is the style, ambience, taste... everything... I really advice you to play it (but only if you have a lot of spare time :)). Because once you start, you cannot stop.

I still believe that I could score higher at my exams 2 years ago if I would not have Oblivion. :)

    ^^same :D :D

oblivion is good, but i reckon that morrowind is more in depth. i might not have the pretty graphics, or be as simple, but i loved it more. plus its dirt cheap.

yea..as Jeff and everyone said...Morrowind is more deep gameplay and plot wise, but Oblivion is in a different league...more art than anything....the lighting, enviorment, water, etc is just plain extraordinary.

sometimes i'll even stroll around on a unicorn...until i realize im my low level character and get my balls stomped by a troll or somethin...

To be honest I enjoyed Morrowind a lot more then Oblivion. In addition to the deeper storyline and weapons selection your character actually has the chance to become more powerful, unlike Oblivion in which the monsters and NPCs level with you. However I also enjoyed Oblivion's realistic NPCs (day and night behaviors etc) and improved graphics and physics. If you can buy both, they offer different, enjoyable experiences :)

That's one feature about Oblivion I could live without. Somehow ruins the immersion factor. Luckily there's a mod out that remedies that...scaled all the npcs from weak to hard. Forgot what it was called ( been awhile since I played ) but I enjoyed Oblivion more using that mod.

Oh, and also, if your computer can (/should) handle it, definitely get the Infinite view distance mod to get further, Oblivion like view distance without the fog. Should be pretty nice when using levitation spells. Here's a video that demonstrates the mod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-cAI-iIFrY

When I last played Morrowind, I used quite a lot of different higher texture mods for almost every object/building/plant etc. in the game with the graphics extender (required for Infinite view). It definitely looked quite impressive. We are talking about over 5 year old game afterall.

Another thing Oblivion did add was your character behaved at the level of his sub-skills.
Example, if your sneak was at level 85, it is very, very difficult to be seen by the enemy or by someone you're trying to pickpocket.
In Morrowind, it is based on 'chance'. For example, if you have a level 85 sword, you have a higher chance of getting a good hit on the enemy than a level 65 sword, nothing is as definite in Morrowind.

Check out for Obscuro Overhaul a mod for Oblivion that correct the monster level making it equal to morrowind and raising the general difficulty of the game.A must have http://jorgeoscuro.googlepages.com/

    Quote from the author
" I decided to make this mod after realizing that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was largely based on a system of "leveled" gameplay, whose function resulted in a contrived experience of immersion and "realism" that, in my view, detracted from the potential enjoyment of such a beautiful and massive RPG. Creating, balancing, and testing the needed changes was a time-consuming task, but the result is a more rewarding experience that I hope also helps those of you that prefer a more static game world than what it was offered upon release."

I agree that Oblivion has some problems: it is too easy to kill monsters and to accomplish missions but there have been several updates about that. You might want to check that out.
