Are you kidding me? It's a top-notch game, regardless of how you get it onto your computer. And D2D is a solid and reliable service; there's nothing wrong with it, and it's certainly no reason to pass up a good deal on a great game.

God damn, now I'm going to reinstall Oblivion and mod the crap out of it :p

LOL what an irrelevant statement. So, you are saying that crysis 2 is also worthless since it's not on steam? ;)

regardless of the download service this is a great deal hard to pass up.

Seems that you are not aware that EA pulled crysis 2 out of steam. ;)

However, that does not affect the ones who already purchased the game first through steam.

Direct2drive is just another retailer of downloadable games(like amazon, gamersgate, etc). It is very reliable(i have purchased several games on there). Steam is just another gaming platform, just like xbox live and psn network. The only downside is that is not on steam, meaning that you will have to go to the website, sign in to download again. On steam, the game installs automatically. Plus on steam, friends will know when you are playing that game :p.

Why would they do that? I want Crysis 2 on Steam!

So D2D, Amazon, Gamersgate, are not a gaming platform so what are they exactly? Can I play the games I bought on D2D without having to go on D2D, in that case it simply mean the games is install into your game files and you just play it whenever you want? Wouldn't that make it better than steam? :)

Sweet! I just need to play a game without game disk, and that so awesome.

Lastly do you know if D2D, Amazon, and Gamersgate dl have manual as well?

    Thanks

Manuals!!!!!! You want MANUALS????? I don't think they write them anymore!! JK :p

if you just need to play the game without the disc this just fine. if you ever format your computer you simply just go and re-download it again at no cost. Not sure about the manuals, don't see them on the website, although steam still supplies them.
I remember back to the ps2 age when the games came with a tick and colorful manuals, nowadays the ps3 games come with a manuals skinnier than pro models. I don't think people bother to read them any more.

Don't worry guys, the last day of Steam summer sales will probably have the Oblivion deal again (since it probably sold so well).

D2D and Gamersgate (and I assume Amazon too, since I've not used it) are digital distribution places, not platform. Meaning? Well, you go to their website, log in and buy and download the install files. Then you install them on your PC anywhere (unlike Steam) although you have to download yourself any patches (unlike Steam). Like Steam you can log in any time and download the game as many times as you like.

For the game in question (TES IV:GotY) there is no need of patches since the GotY version was the final version of TES IV.

It depends on the game, some distributors have also given the digital distributors links to the manuals. But like you've said: people don't read them anymore (or I'd say aren't useful anymore).
