Hello!
I have Intel T5250 processor in my laptop, and it has a FSB of 667 MHz. I am thinking of buying a better graphics card, with 800MHz of core clock.
My question is, will I only be able to use 667 MHz of the 800MHz of GPU, like it happens with RAM and a the processor's FSB (ie, if we use a 800MHz RAM and a 667 FSB processor? Or does the FSB have no effect on the GPU?
Thank you.

The FSB has no effect on the GPU as its uses a PCIe bus rather than the Front Side Bus. The processor will not usually limit the power of the GPU.
But you cannot upgrade that GPU any further, so I don't know what you are planning here... -
Completely unrelated as Greg says, where did you get this idea from anyway?
-
What you mean to say is that I cannot buy and install a better graphics card than 8600M GT?
Basically here is the thing. DELL lied to me about something and I bought their laptop. Now, as an apology, they're telling me that they can replace and give me a better graphics card, but I'll have to buy a processor from them as well, as my FSB is only 533 MHz (which I corrected and said it was 667 MHz). So I wanted to know if the processor will have any effect or if they are lying to me yet again.
If I my current CPU can use any good graphics card, which one will you suggest I ask them for (for my laptop)? -
Makes even less sense as the CPU is not the FSB, it uses it. Changing CPU has no effect on FSB.
Edit: Are you sure that is what they are saying to you? -
otherwise there are no graphics card that are better than what you have on you lappy -
demand the xps1730!! sli 8700...

well she doesnt know what she is talking about, there hoping your just a normal customer who doesnt know anything about computers so they can fork more money form you.

What the Wookie said.
-
Well yes, I just completed my Engineering from Computer Science as well this May, so I knew it was not right, but I wanted to double check. Thank you very much everyone.
Now, I think I should go for a new HD2600XT? -

Which one is the best? Can my motherboard support the SLi one? I have Inspiron 1720. It has GM 965 motherboard.
-
for 1720 - the best card as of right now is 8600. it is a good mid-range card(i love mine; i got a 1520 tho). but don't expect anything out of ordinary playing very high resolutions, that's why i got 1520 with 1280*800 res.

Your motherboard will only take an 8600M-GT, and possibly an 8400M-GS. You have no other GPU options with that computer.

Back to asking for goodies now!
The FSB of the CPU, does it matter?
