I like the new alien guns. I never played ANY fallout exaplnsion but i heard all that of come out so far have been very good.

You should really get Broken Steel, Red Dragon. It ups the level cap to 30, allows you to continue playing after beating the main storyline quest, and give a bit of real closure to the main storyline quest.
Point lookout is the next one I recommend, but you should go there when you're fairly low-level (8-10). You'll get your butt kicked a lot, but if you're low-level when you explore most of the map, the enemies will be locked to your current level, that way, when you go back at level 20-25 or so, the Swampfolk won't kill you half as much. -

up to 30?
That sounds interesting now im thinking of picking this up lol
I bought this game on STEAM, when they were having that cheap sale christmas last year. Never regretted it, played this game hours a day until i finally beat it. Maybe its time i revisit the world of fallout. Thanks alot Raduque -
I never gave Fallout 3 a fair shake. I may have to go back and replay it just for the expansions' sake. This one looks really good. I like how Fallout 3 released the expansions relatively quickly. This is how I wish Half-Life 2 had done it. I feel bitter about the Half-Life 2 Episodes now. At least with Fallout 3 you can maintain a feel for the story and the game, whereas Half-Life 2 Episodes, you almost forget what the story was and the detail.

too bad i cant even sign into gfwl on fallout 3. i wish stem had the dlc.
-
I had bought Operation Anchorage the day it came out, and was hugely disappointed after dumping over 125 hours into to main game.
I recently (last weekend) decided to pick up the other DLC because I've been bored with other games.
The Pitt: Totally awesome. Probably some of the most fun I've had the entire game.
Broken Steel: Certainly a huge improvement on the previous Fallout 3 ending, which was seriously lacking. Level cap moved up and new perks were nice too. Nuclear Anomaly is awesome!
Point Lookout: A lot of fun, because it was so large and had a lot of unmarked quests, much like the main game. Some parts were kind of boring to explore though, not enough little goodies to make you want to take every path.
All three were way better than Operation Anchorage.
I'm super excited to play this as well. -
This looks great, <3 Fallout3
-
One question though, if I own Fallout 3 retail box, can I download and play expansions if bought through Steam?
-
I"ve played through FO3 twice now hoping to re-capture some of the magic the 1st two had...................never happened.
Bought the 1st expansion pack, The Pitt and Operation Anchorage, which is more a full-fledged FPS, hoping it would add something to the overall game.................it didn't !
While playing through FO3 both times , I hit the level cap. , 20 halfway through the game ! It's like why bother playing anymore!
Anyways , tired of fushing money down the toilet..................dog armor for a $1.99 anyone ? -

DLC is still a great concept but it depends on pricing but i am also one that believes that once you pass $10 for a DLC add-on it gets ridiculous -
I absolutely agree with what has been stated above vis-a-vis DLC. There is just something fishy about paying anywhere between $2-15 for either a trivial bit of content (horse armor anyone?) to things that should have been in the game to begin with (being able to keep playing after the final mission in a sandbox game) something that vaguely resembles actual new gameplay. I would honestly rather wait ~6 months for a full fledged add-on that includes all these little gimmicks, as well as a thorough expansion of the story and new things to do, if that is applicable to the genre.
But I suppose as long as people are willing to spend their money on DLC, actually worthwhile gameplay additions will not make it... -
Bethesda didn't make FO3 for you. Go to gog.com and play FO1 and 2 again.
I played and loved the first two. But I'll be damned if I play a 2008 release that's a 2d, isometric POS. I was ready for an upgrade to the FO universe, I'm sorry you weren't. -
I played Fallout 1 and 2 back in 98 and 99 respectively, still great RPGs today. I wouldn't mind buying a 2D isometric game again today if the gameplay is good. Fallout 3 isn't bad, but it clearly lacks the magic the previous two had. I know that most Fallout 3 players have never played the first two games and now think of them as too old to play to enjoy. I actually feel that way about Elder Scrolls 1 and 2, which some say are much better than 3 and 4.
I've played through the FO3 main quest, no DLC packs yet, I think I'll wait for the GOTY Edition which will have everything. I'm disappointed by the story and its abrupt ending and how it still wasn't finished in Broken Steel, no definitive end to the story.
For some reason, I have this feeling that Bethesda should stick to Elder Scrolls and another developer stick to Fallout.
Can't wait for Fallout: New Vegas in 2010 made by Obsidian which will have some developers from Fallout 1 and 2.
Interesting how Bethesda owns the franchise but is letting them produce it, I'm hoping that they can really show Bethesda how to make a Fallout game. -

I dont know, with FO3's style of gameplay i dont see how there really could be a definitive ending. Except if they can cure the earth by bringing back the grass and water to its normal state.

So is Vegas an expansion or a new game?
-
This DLC looks like it strays too far from the post apocalyptic theme in my opinion.
But that doesn't matter to me anyways since I still haven't gotten the first DLC. God damn PS3 ;-; -
-
Point Lookout was utter garbage IMHO...Broken Steel then Anchorage, then pitt, then Lookout
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Its unbelievable how varied everyone opinion was. Some people said Point lookout was good.
But at the same time alot of people saig the Anchorage was no good.
I guess maybe i'll have to test it out myself. -
Been playing Mothership Zeta (well, got an hour or two to play) and so far I've liked it. I really enjoy the alien weapons and their pew pew sounds though
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Thats cool, i heard this DLC makes it feel like you arent even playing Fallout anymore with how the ambience changed.
-
Well, you're obviously out of the wasteland and in a different "world," but you left the wasteland when you went to Raven Rock at the end of Fallout 3 (pre DLC, last mission before "Take it back!").
They still keep it true to the style of the Fallout universe though, which is primarily 50's style. This ship, the aliens, the alien weapons - all very reminiscent of a 50's-60's alien flick. The Fallout influence is still there, even if you're hovering miles above earth's surface.
Plus *spoilers* (highlight below to read)
You meet people on the ship that have been cryogenicly frozen (you unfreeze them to rescue them/recruit their help) and if you stand around and listen to them talk to each other, they talk about some pretty cool things. For example, one of the people is a fellow wastelander (it's suggested that she is a merc) and another is a field medic that was abducted while fighting in Anchorage, Alaska. She breaks it to him that the war's over and he's been frozen for hundreds of years, and he's curious about the outcome of the war. Her answer? Basically, "No one really knows who won." I'm not going to type of the full conversation but it's definitely interesting to listen to. -

( more games) -
is this another expansion pack?
-
im really disappointed with mothership zeta.
it looked really promising but it didn't deliver. the enemies are bland, the environment is pretty boring for being in a ship. you see the same artifacts / tools all over the place. it only lasts like 3 hours. no real cool items from it, like the winterized t-51b power armor or gauss rifle from anchorage, auto axe from the pitt, no exploration like point lookout (which i think is the best dlc for it. it plays so much like the actual game), and it doesn't add anything to the game like broken steel did with the extended level cap. all you get is a couple alien weapons, some logs to read about, and the chance to be on an alien ship
all it did was get me 6 more achievements for xbl. i wasn't even entertained while playing it.
sorry if it sounds like im bashing it but i expected a lot more from this -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
^^ you know its interesting, i just read Kotaku's review and they were a bit dissapointed as well.
They claimed that the game didnt have a good "ending" I guess they were looking for something that would round out the game and really explain the story. SO they were dissapointed.
How many achievements can you get for this game(In total)? -
its up to like 72 now. i've got all of them except the level 8, 14, and 20 ones and 2 of the quest ones
and not to totally bash it, there are some things i forgot
the 1st 5 minutes are fun.
lol
and you only get 1 cool weapon. the drone cannon or something. its like a mortar. but with broken steel you get the tesla (or telsa i forget) cannon. that thing is almost as cool as the MIRV
yea the ending on this came out of left field. spoilers below v
basically you get beamed up. escape. defrost 3 people. one is a samurai who doesn't speak english. he disappears for like 2 hours. then reappears at the end. you blow up some ship and thats it.
/spoiler -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol, well at least you got new weapons in the main game
(I guess
)
I did everything in fallout and i have a low gamer score(I had to start a new 360 account so everything was gone) So iwas basically thinking i might as well get the collectors edition and play that. -
Looks awesome. Need to try it when I get home. By the way the alien gun is available in the original version as soon as you find the crashed ship.

a game designer from bethesda came to my game theory class this spring semester and told us that they had the release date for fallout 3 a bit too early, so they were in 'crunch time' for far too long and didn't exactly put everything they wanted into the game and released it knowing they wanted to add more DLC later on.
he told us that one of the biggest issues they had was recording all of the voices... i'm not sure if you noticed, but there are thousands upon thousands of lines of dialogue.
i feel the game did well, and i like it more probably than others would because i'm from DC and it's very interesting how they warped it. who cares what fallout 1 and 2 were like since the story isn't exactly related to those two, and the entire series has been revamped to fit the first person view. -

After exiting the Vault, I went straight towards Little Lamplight to get the Wazer Rifle and the boom, the Firelance event occurred near that nuclear waste dump along the way with me at like level 5. Needless to say, I was extremely pleased.
The bad thing was I spent an hour looking for the weapon and energy cells until it made me nauseous, literally. I then remembered dogmeat and just got him which solved everything. -

While I loved Fallout 3, I don't think I will reinstall the game for this DLC.
I mean while I haven't played it, I will spend 10 bucks for 3 hrs of fun. Just like Operation Anchorage. (And to say no replay value like point lookout or the pitt) I mean damn I'm not made of money.
And in my opinion seeing this disscusion in the beggining of the thread:
My ranks of DLC
1. Broken Steel.
2. Operation Anchorage (mainly because of the Power Armor, basically indestructible, amazing if you do this DLC as soon as you start the game, basically the game becomes easier with this armor) If you take the armor out of the picture this would go to #4
3. Point lookout, I liked it. But the ultra though enemies sucked. I mean one hillbilly/tribal being more powerful than 2 deathclaws is kind of outrageous. The part after you where gassed by the seeds and the bobble heads appeared when you where walking back, was creepy and awesome at the same time.
4. The Pitt. It was alright I guess. -

1) Operation Anchorage and the Pitt.
2) Broken steel and Point lookout.
