Between the Dell M1730 and the Sager NP9261, which notebook will likely be upgradeable to the new nVidia 8800 card (for notebooks). I heard that the Sager is the only one with a MXM IV slot, but, if you remember, nVidia held out the release of the 8700M-GT until Dell got it for the M1730 (in SLi). Any idea which notebook is a better buy for the future?

    Thanks for any advice.

for the best power for the money is definitely the Sager 9261. C'mon... quad-core and SLI high-powered MXM-IV.

And its user-upgradeable parts (videocards, HDDs) makes it more future proof friendly.

Either. Probably DELL since they said a number of times that the M1730 was ready for upcoming graphics cards from nVidia. Though trying to get anything on that from DELLs staff is like pulling teeth.

I would imagine that any laptop that can handle an 8700M can handle the 8800M or am I wrong?

Hmm probably not, how many of the current brands, i.e Asus, Toshiba had the 7950GTX? Not many right?

I hope more brands get these cards, so it is not like the current gen which only a few brands of notebook manufacturers used the 7950GTX, hell even 7800/7900GTX.

dell is nvidia's launch partner as well as acer and toshiba, so these companies will definitely get the 8800m first. Alienware would go under "dell" by the way.

    nope, go to www.mxm-upgrade.com

Nvidia has secretly confirmed that there is MXM Type IV... not publicly known though... only Clevo got the rights to use it first.

so if this mxm IV is for 8800m series and beyond then those who bought the 8700m notebooks are screwed, as far as upgradability goes?

I cant comment on a videocard that does not exist yet.

But from the specs (TDP requirement), the first batch of 8800Ms are going to be for MXM-III and MXM-IV.

ahh i see, that would make sense to have it for both types. i just want them to release it, but then they'll also be releasing the 9xxx series which means my conscience will tell me to get 9xxxm then so on...i'll end up with crapdoodle.

I had earlier mentioned that maybe Clevo 570ru will be one of the first to feature 8800m GT in it so it is also natural that it will be upgraedable in that system.

MXM-IV i think it is in that laptop.

BTW gophn do you work for clevo?
