I'd say you could probably play Med settings at a decent resolution even. It might get hairy in really big games though.

Well that's good to hear, I could always just lower some detail if it's giving me trouble on big maps. Thanks.

I can't now, but let me know sometime and we can play online. I generally play over LAN with a few buddies, because it's easier then the online service. Usually use Hamachi, simulate a lan environment over the internet.

Some tablets do have dedicated GPUs...they're lower end 7400/8400/X1400 though.

Dawn of War runs fine on the weaker GMA950 so I'm pretty sure you're safe with the X3100 for medium-ish settings at a guess.

Not that I like being a pessimist, but just because shader 3.0 is enabled, it doesn't necessarily mean your gaming experience as whole will be improved.
I like what I'm seeing so far, as I am not an game enthusiast. But of course, the more the better :D

Okay, so I do realize that no one believes Shared memory chipsets are good at all for gaming. All I want to know is if games like the new Age of Empires, CS:S, Day of Defeat Source, and maybe even Battlefield will run on this notebook:

    Toshiba U300 NS5

    Intel Core2 Duo T5450 1.67 GHz
    2 GB Ram
    160 GB Hard Drive
Intel GMA965 Express Chipset with up to 358MB Shared memory

Im a first year engineering student, this notebook will work fine for anything else I do. I only plan on playing a few games such as those listed above, and all I want to know is if they will be playable on it. Thanks.

Playable yes, but as of now and the current beta drivers, only at low settings. hopefully things will improve much further with later drivers.

    Check this out

is that the x3100 intel chip or the intel gma 950?

stuff like CS:S and DOD will be barely playable. older battlefields should run OK. i don't know about AOE.

It's the x3100, and I wouldnt need the game to look amazing, as long as its not too chunky or blocky to play, and it can run smoothly.

Not on high. I can barely push lowest settings with my nVidia 6100 with Burning Crusade (12-15 fps outside).

    New games:

    System: Vista Beta Driver,Core2Duo 1,67GHZ 667FSB, 2GB RAM, X3100.

F.E.A.R.: Playable on 800x600 medium setting. But must turn off shadow. With shadow on the game is barely playable on Low.

Far Cry: Texture are not appearing

Sim City 4: Must be a bug somewhere, the game is turning at 4-5fps, but was running real good on my GMA 900.

Civilization 4: The game is running smooth. Didn't try in the late parts of the game.

Doom3: Some kinds of light or shadow make the games sluggish and very painful to play, even on low.

I think there is several issue with the vista beta drivers. But I didn't test the "regular" driver

    I forgot:

Call Of Duty 2 (demo) is also very playable, at medium-high setting.

UT 2004 Demo: 800x600: Detail @ Normal or High(when it was possible): Really smooth

I think that is the problem . . . the demo doesn't have any patches so you are experiencing all the problems. If anyone has a full copy of Far Cry and a GMA X3100 notebook to test it on please let us know what happens. :)

I'm sure someone will do it before me, but Far Cry one of the first things I'll test on my D630 when it arrives. I just ordered it yesterday so I'm not expecting it for a while, especially with the delays everyone seems to be getting, but I will try it eventually. Seeing as I'm not much of a gamer, I will be running Vista Business instead of XP, and I hope that the Vista X3100 driver will be more mature by then. We shall see.

Lol, I like how you're being optimistic. R6V runs horridly on any video card, even my 8600m GT. No amount of drivers for the X3100 is going to correct that. There's just not enough raw horsepower in the card.

I'm not saying that future driver can run it, even if Intel release a better driver, the graphic card itself is not enough to handle R6V.

On Halo 2 it did pretty decent. On 800 x 600 (low setting) the game got around 20-32 Fps. On 1024 x 768 (low) around 19-25 Fps, mostly drop lower than 20 during the massive Covenant revolt on the High Charity level. I tried medium, don't even bother with medium. The graphic on low can be compare to the graphic on the first Halo, nice and fine.

Well for WoW even with the non-beta 14.31 drivers for XP, Intel recommends you run WoW in software instead of hardware.

    http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-028231.htm

Same with 3DMark06. Probably these older popular titles, the software rendering path has been so heavily optimized it'll take Intel a while to get the hardware path to beat it. Or perhaps they think WoW already runs acceptibly in software and they are concentrating on supporting newer games like BF2 that previously wouldn't even run.

    Ok new test;

I formated my hard disk, and I installed WinXP.
Playing games over the new driver:

Doom 3: Using my own customized autoexec.cfg(in base directory) the game became very playable; the fps is from 13 to 50, and normally near 25 to 40. (with specular and bump map enable, shadow at off)

Civilization 4: The game is very smooth on High at 1024x786, I didn't tried 1280x1024. But the game was also playable with the GMA900. Civilization 4 is mainly RAM and CPU dependent.

Using the same autoexec.cfg from Doom 3; Quake 4 Demo is playable.

I'll install Call Of Duty 2, and I'm going to report my fps.

Is this with the official out of beta 14.31 driver? Could you also try the Bioshock Demo? I'm interested to know if claims that it's playable at 800x600 with low settings are true.

I don't know why, Call Of Duty 2 Demo was highly playable in Direct 9 mode. But the retail version if unplayable in Direct X9.0 but smooth at very high detail in DirectX 7.0 mode.(AA+Anisotropic, Extra detail)

Might be higher quality textures and additional effects in the retail game. Have you tried Intel's recommended settings for the 14.31 drivers?

    http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-028223.htm

They've supposedly done "extensive testing" and have declared it playable at those settings. Although their recommended 640x480 isnt very impressive.

Ok, there is some level of Call Of Duty 2 that I can play in DirectX 9.0(Texture @ Normal; without any fps lower than 20-25). But I got one level that my Fps could drop to 8-10.

But Direct X 7.0, everything set to Max and the games is smooth.

Anyone play Morrowind? This card seems comparable to my ATI 8500 for DX7, probably better for DX8, but just curious, really.

And I mean do mean Morrowind, not Oblivion.
