excellent! is it possible to make some hl2&farcry water-reflection shoots.

Here are some crysis shoots, that do not impress me at all:
    x3100
    800x600
    Low Details
    Vista Buiness 32bit

10-ish FPS on Crysis... well Crysis wasn't exactly built with X3100 at mind in the first place.

My point is that it RUNS. It runs slow yes:

-That isn't the average fps, don't be misled by it, the average is something like 1 lol
-That's 800x600 everything High with Texture detail on Medium(or else the graphics bugs out).
-It crashes after a while because games like these require a lot of video memory(something like 1GB) and X3000 only has 384MB :p.

    Another screenshot:

Actually seems to run better than on the first screenshot.

    how about some
    - ut3
    - witcher
    - fear
    screenshots.

    e.g.
    - best quality at 800x600
    - lowest quality at 800x600

but if possible show a frame counter.

    thx

    Screenshots from my MacMini 2x1.66CoreDuo with GMA950 (OS/X Q4-Demo);
The GMA x3100 will be much faster and will also have better quality; I think ;-)

Does anyone have pics or has tried UT2k4 or America's Army?

I'm curious how these will run on the x3100 with vista ultimate and 2gb ram.

I think the X3100 can run those games fine. UT2k4 is at least 3 or 4 yrs ago, and AA doesn't need a high powered graphic card to run it. The X3100 should be fine.

I can confirm that the x3100 runs AA. My friend owns one on the desktop and he plays, with decent FPS (not silky smooth, but he's not as sensitive as I am)

I have heard that while Vista SP1, doesn't directly provide performance increase, it significantly reduces memory usage. Users of Service Pack 1 report noticeably faster operations with large files(I guess something like using winzip/winrar), and is in general, smoother with normal desktop use.

I have seen 10% performance in games by just changing my memory settings from 5-6-6-18 to 5-5-5-15, in the game Company of Heroes. Perhaps the reduced memory usage will do wonders with people with low system memory and integrated graphics cards. I sincerely hope that SP1 fixes the performance problems that Vista has!!

Get a notebook with 8600GT and compromise on processor lil bit because x3100 is probably one of the last cards i would reccommend to anyone play COH or any other modern game.

I'm sure this will be fixed sometime and they are aware of it. Vista is still new and will take time to work out the kinks, as xp did in its early stages.

It will not run it at all...You're looking at one of the cheapest laptops out there at 480 bucks..

You'll need to go up in the price range, i'd say at least 1000$ to get a decent inspiron 1520 with an Nvidia 8600 gt to play games

With 15.7 in Vista: 3dmark05 = 915 (sw mode) and 625 (hw mode).

T7300 processor, and 2 gigs of ram.

I hear that Xp users get about 915 in either SW or HW mode in 3dmark05.

Tinderbox (UK) both of the cards are more powerful than a x3100(consider that the first generation of asus g1 has the x1700)...I recommend to return it if your plan is to play latest games
IGP are only for general purpose or working/studying...

8600gt is a dedicated card the best of this generation of video cards...
Except newer cards that are exiting now like 8700,8800,2700 ecc.
But still remains a balanced and powerful card for all type of user.
The most expensive macbook pro has a 8600gt ;)

Yeah, I turned off shadows, which pretty much brutally massacred the game. It does look better in motion/with shadows, however.
Also, my framerates are 1.5x to 2.5x faster on Vista, it's incredible.

Occasional viewer and first time poster. You guys are amazing and this website rocks!

:) To you and anybody that can play COD4:
    • What are your framerates and how consistent are they!!!! What are your settings (resolution, texture, etc)? Have you updated your X3100 drivers to 15.7?

    • Can multiplayer be played without framerate drops? How are the frames in singleplayer? (For any potential testers there's a COD4 demo available)
This thread talks about which games are compatible for the X3100 but there is little comment on the CPU. I just purchased the Sony Vaio with these specs:

    • Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core mobile processor T2310 with 533MHz frontside bus, 1MB L2 cache and 1.46GHz processor speed
    • 1GB PC2-4200 DDR2 memory for multitasking power, expandable to 2GB

I haven't opened the box since Best Buy has a 15% restocking fee but I got the Vaio at a great price. How will it run COD4? I believe that Deify88's system has a Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 @ 1.5GHz with 2 GB RAM from his signature.

If all else fails, I may still keep the laptop since most of you can play TF2 and the Orange Box. So then, can anybody list the games from this era that is playable? (ie. Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142?)

Main Event, the two principle issues with your laptop is the memory and the processor, in which the former can be easily solved by purchasing more memory. Although the T2310 is only 44MHz slower than the T5250, the T5250 has two times (or 4 times) the L2 cache. In addition, the Core 2 Duo, clock for clock, is faster than the Core Duo. The Pentium Dual Core is based on the Core1 architecture, but with half the L2 cache disabled. Unfortunately, integrated video cards are highly dependant on the processor speed, which means that you'll have a hard time running Call of Duty 4 at consistenty playable settings. Even with my laptop, the game is not very playable onlin when there's a lot of action.

    Hello

I am Matty, I am soon to purchase a Sony Laptop with these specs:

The Laptop is a Sony VGNNR11S

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5250
(1.50 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
    2 GB Memory
    200 GB Hard Drive
    INTEL GMA X3100
    Graphics Memory 358 MB

What i would like to know as soon as possible is. How well will this laptop play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? (With the driver updates)

What settings will it play good on? High/Medium/Low?

And has anyone got any pictures of videos of it playing? so i can see?

    Thanks A lot

    Matty

Quick question... what is up with the XP drivers on the X3100?! Before you say it, NO, I'm not trying to run games on my $599 laptop. I happen to like the Really Slick Screensavers (Google it, I don't know what the policy is on links here), so I slapped them onto this notebook. They are mainly OpenGL, and I've gotten most of them to run fast and flawlessly on an absolutely ancient desktop (500MHz P3, 160MB Ram, 2X AGP 1998 16MB nVidia Vanta videocard... no, I'm not kidding!). Yet on this bought-last-week laptop, though mini-preview is blazing fast, the actual screensaver gets something like 1fps. With 384MB of shared video memory, a 1.5GHz Core 2 Duo CPU and 1GB of RAM, these screensavers should be cake.

I'm left thinking that the X3100 drivers are simply miserable. I suppose the screensavers could be coded badly and be based on older hardware, but the fact that they zoom effortlessly in the preview, then die on fullscreen makes me question the drivers. If it helps troubleshooting, my driver version is the latest I could find- 6.14.10.4864, dated 8/24/2007. Surely there's something newer...?

Edit 1: I believe I found the answer to my own question... leaving the post here just in case it helps someone else. Bottom line is, Intel sucks: http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-004684.htm

Edit 2: Intel sucks but they're also idiots, yay! Here's an OpenGL screensaver workaround- just rename all your screensavers to *.sCr instead of *.scr :) They didn't bother coding in possible capitalized permutations, so the hardware acceleration won't be turned off anymore. Back to beautiful screensaver goodness!

Is "without any problem" equal to "without any lags"?

because I seriously doubt that. But anyway, the GTA3 engine is not very performance-hungry, it should *run* on the sony laptop...
