    Hi all,

Just want to say I'm new here and that I am in need a bit of assistance, just got my tax rebate check back and am wanting to spend it on a nice new laptop, i am really loving this one at the moment:

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3758909&CatId=1897

I won't be doing ALOT of gaming on it but I would like to run a few games, only thing I'm really worried about is being able to run oblivion, does anyone know how it runs on low and high settings, FPS wise? And if not, can anyone link me to any other great reliable laptops(want it to last!) that may be able to handle oblivion on medium to high settings maintaning a 800 dollar budget but allowing 1000 with warranty included?

The laptop I linked is really loaded and nice, so if you give me an alternative make sure it's nice please :)

    Thanks guys!

Not a chance without modding it. (Oldblivion at least)

Check out the Dell Vostro series. They are really cheap, and pretty powerful. I paid a little over a grand for mine after taxes, and it plays Oblivion fantastic, but that is a little over your price limit.

vostro 1400, 1500 or a reeeeally good deal on newegg for what you want. if you can up your budget to 1200, then a 1500 or sager2092 is an awesome deal. you might even be able to get xps1530 from the dell outlet if you keep looking all the time.

Not a chance with high settings. Probably pretty smoothly with everything on low, no grass etc. My brother has a 7150 and he played it with grass on and a couple of other settings on med and it was stuttery. Mind you that was with 1GB RAM and 1.8 proc.

Yeah...definitely no oblivion on your 7150...unless you want to go for Oldblivion...which kind of defeats the purpose of playing Oblivion, better off playing games like HL2...

Remember, Oblivion is an intense game, and teh 7150m is NEVER designed as a strong graphics card to begin with, so it will SERIOUSLY suffer, if not being able to play Oblivion at all.

Don't get me wrong here, however. That lappy by HP IS a really good laptop, perhaps even better than a LOT of desktops people are using today. If you can drop Oblivion, and go for the less intensive games such as most games before 2005 (Far Cry perhaps?), then I bet you'll have an AWSOME experience with the laptop in question.

If you want to play Oblivion on High, a 8600 is a must, or you WILL have to tune down the settings a bit. Like what PUKEMON have said, $800 is not going to get you a gaming laptop (a desktop maybe) unless you get a REALLY (and I mean REALLY) good deal, so I think you'll have to stretch it to around $1500 for a reasonable 15in gaming laptop.

PS. The lappy in my sig runs Oblivion MAXED OUT without a problem, so you might want to look into the m1530s if you are into the newest games such as Crysis/Assassin's Creed/R6V2....

Then what would the point be? I'm tired of people saying things like this. Yeah, it will start up, but no one cares if it starts up. People don't pay $50 for a game to watch the menu. If it's not playable, it's not worth it.

.. You can get a decent gaming laptop for around a 1000$. An XPS M1530 is going to set you back about 500$ more compared to a Vostro 1500 the same specs.

Hey...actually nbaumann, I guess you are right. Though DDR2, the 8600 on the vostros should be able to play Oblivion on High without much of a hitch...but it just kind of bugs me though, to play games on a business laptop...kind of defeats the purpose of......well.....business....

Business laptop is just another word for "cheaper for the same thing" for Dell.
