It is overdramatized as it is true.

I don't know, this could be over-dramatised.. But I got a 8600M GT and it really has a temperature problem (Actually It's the fault of Asus, they had to design a better cooling method) but a few days ago my 8600M GT started acting strange, I can't run anything normal any more.. check my 3DMARK06 score !

    (Problem is not driver related)

Since the new 9-serie from nvidia came out the 8-serie disappeared on the background but it looks like it's coming back lol, a lot of people have problems with their 8-serie GPU (it looks like especially the 8600M)

sgtmatt, check my thread about "Dell Replaced my 8600m GT",
If you notice your problem MIGHT be a defective GPU
OR, you must change thermal paste...

I feel it is not over dramatised. After the warranties are getting over, a large number of Go 7200s and Go 7600s have failed. Look at HP's business forums to see the flood of complaints. I fear the 8600M and the 8400M series might be facing this by the end of their standard 1 year warranties. You won't believe that my GPU died while running WMP 11. Only a fortnight ago did HP replace the motherboard.

Alright, appreciate the replies. Perhaps I'll avoid latops with these series to play it safe.

There are now the 9-series anyway which are newer and better cards so if its in your price range its better in every way.

I don't think the problem is as bad as some people make out, but as I said unless you are getting some deal you may as well get one with the 9-series.
