Seeing how this forum does not have one yet,
I thought it might be a good idea for us Guild Wars veterans and beginners to perhaps meet up in-game, hang out, chat, and drink some dwarven ale.
If you are comfortable, feel free to post your character name, when you started playing, perhaps a brief character background story, and anything else you want to discuss or boast about.
I will start
Character name: Gladiator Secrecy
Profession: Ranger
Favorite Build: Right now I either play with Barrage or run around with my white wolf named Arkantos
How you started playing: I started maybe 3-4 years ago when my brother picked up the game before me and started playing for maybe a week. He became bored and so I took it up and never looked back.

Well i guess im a GW veteran. I havent installed the game yet since i got my main some good gear and done all the dungeons : / I started playing when factions came out. And i have a lvl 20 Hunter with some of the best gear, actually forgot what its called :S But yeah the game is great, and in the last stage of my playtime i got an amazing PvE Build for my hunter
-
Ive been playing since factions too, mainly assassins, switched to ranger and played that before they nerfed BoA turret and now back to sins. I dabble in pvp and Im just keeping an eye on the new Winds of Change content, haven't really started it yet. Lacking motivation to play at the moment. I have a Legendary Survivor dervish that i got before they made it possible to do it anytime which i was proud of but now i guess its not such a big deal. Oh yeah, i have an odd obsession with Kamas daggers, i horde them haha
-
Oh I thought my other thread was official???
-
this is for Guild wars your topic seems to be guild wars 2
-
I'm still playing GW1, I'm waiting for a paragon update lol, and I'm still drawn into. Not as much as before, but it still gives me things to do especially with the new War in Kryta and Winds of Cantha content too. New storyline tying in the gap between Gw1 and 2 that features new weapons, heroes, foes, etc...
-
I've pretty much been playing since release. Like with many others it's introduced me to MMOs but more specifically communities within games. Although I had played online games before GW, I was never attached to a group of people who shared the common interest. But when I started GW, I immediately signed up to forums, made countless online friends, joined guilds. The feeling overall was truly "epic" in nature.
And no monthly fees. I mean, come on, this is just fantastic. I've taken breaks from the game up to a year in length, only to say one day "hey, I think I'll do some GvGs today", install the client, login/password, and BAM it's all there! I just can't get over that feeling. -
-
I don't remember my account name but I'm starting fresh with Guild Wars 2 since I know what name I want -
I started like in 2006ish, my Dad got me Guild Wars as a birthday present, and I played it on his 2005 laptop (which I thought was the best
). Surprisingly we still have the laptop and Guild Wars! I haven't played in like a year, but I haven't played the expansions. Do you guys think it is worth it for me to make a new character, pick up the 2 expansions (I only played the original) and play through all of the stories? (I have a level 20 but he is really bad) Maybe I can get some help from some GW Veterans? Haha, I just wouldn't really call myself that because I've only played for like 2 years.
-
I wish I could play it now, but still need to wait a month or so until I order a new rig.
I have 3 PvE characters:
Raynne Silkwood: W/D (first char - Prophecies)
Rusty Raveneye: A/R (second char - Factions)
Hands On Me: E/Mo (third char - Nightfall)
Greatest PvP achievement: half way through "Deadly Gladiator" (haven't really played for years now).
Feel free to add me to your buddy lists! Hope we'll do some TA or RA together soon! hehe -

Damn after all this talk i want to pick up mah awesome ranger again
I also remember that EoTN Has such beautiful graphics and scenery! I used to do city runs there
-
Only thing I have to do now is purchase them and then decide what professions i'll be running! Any suggestions from the expansions?

Hmm the guy with the scythe is a good class. I have one of those at lvl 20. Else if you think of going big you can go monk, and try to get a solo buildt. That way you can solo the last dungeon of EoTN : ) and earn a lot of cash on it!
-
I have a Monk/Ranger at level 20, which might not be a good pair.
-
You can choose any PvE character to continue into the EoTN campaign if you own all previous titles (with their dedicated classes).
Dervish is a really strong PvE class indeed.
Monk is a good idea if you are really serious on getting gear/cash and work on the titles and goodies you will store up in your Hall of Monuments for Guild Wars 2. It will take a little time though and it will pay off in the long run.
If you want head on fun, go for some dedicated melee class. -
So Dervish Monk?
-
Dervish's used to be kinda mundane imo, it seemed every other class could do their job better (crit scythe im looking at you) but recently they got buffed, lots of people play them now! Also recently 8 party heroes were added, before you could only have 3 heroes now max of 7 and yourself. Oh and a few weeks ago they added HD textures to towns and out posts!

Character Name: Nathell Terrus
Profession: Warrior/Monk
As I stated from the last GW thread, I just started playing just recently. I bought the game from the steam summer sale and I think this is the best game ive ever bought. started out fun but got a bit bored due to dying quite a lot. when i managed to get a full party of heroes things get a lot easier till the ascension mission. it took me a number of tries just to get the bonus mission done but it wasn't a wasted time since i manage to rake in some plats while repeating that mission.
Build: I started out as an axe build since some random people gave me a rare max damage axe for free. I switched to sword build when I hit 20 to test the sword skills out. I might try out the hammer when i the party size goes to 8. -
Guild Wars had crappy armor I have to say. Wasn't really interested in any of my characters beside the Dervish.
-
If we were to speak about variety, then yes, I would have to agree with you.
I liked this approach a lot! Especially the idea that casters, for example, should be able to defend themselves with whatever elements they manipulate.
Mesmers had the most "exquisite" armor in my opinion.
Why wear something heavy and useless when you can elude sword swipes with distortion spells? Why not wear a Venetian costume?
I find that pretty bad@£$! -
I'm bore, when is this game coming out already? I check the site everyday to see what the 8th class will be but so far no luck. -
The best were the monk tattoo pieces. I went all tattoos except for the pants, dyed them black and was probably the most slick lookin' monk in LA
-
It will probably be revealed close to when Gamescom will take place (If ArenaNet decides to attend). That means that we will get to see the new/last profession in the first half of August with a hands-on at Gamescom on the 18 - 21 of August.
EDIT: If we are lucky we might get to see something earlier. ArenaNet will also be attending the San Diego Comic-Con on the 21-23rd of July. Remember, they usually make a website reveal before any major event. So far, it did not happen. -
They already released the 8th profession, the Commando! But back to GW1, wow I haven't played in a few months but I've had this game since like a month after it came out. I guess it kind of gets repetitive and the constant grind has been off putting. Maybe the new content will be intersting but I can't imagine it will last long...
-
-edit-
doh didnt read the dervish part. anyway its really a personal taste i guess. the prestige plate mail is my fav armor next to the templar set. -
Wow, this thread brings back memories.
I used to play the game religiously back when the original was around. Dabbled a little in the first expansion but didn't touch any of the newer ones.
Started out mainly playing PvE and then eventually moved into PvP and loved it. Played for what at the time was one of the top 20 guilds but it was very time consuming with 3x weekly practices, etc. Ton of fun though.
Eventually started playing less and less and decided to sell my account - had multiple sets of Fissure Armour, tons of weapons, etc.
Will probably give it another go once GW2 comes out (when is it supposed to come out?) assuming my old XPS M1330 can handle it. Otherwise I'm out of luck! -
Damn, just looked up some stuff on GW2 and pretty bummed about no dedicated healing class.
-
Concerning your XPS M1330, I would be worried a bit about the graphics card. I don't think that 128mb vram will cut it.
As for the dedicated healer class, don't worry about it. There will be oriented healer builds in Guild Wars 2 with more focus on team support. ArenaNet will move from the holy trinity of builds to create something new. -
However, don't expect the game to be cutting edge in graphics as they have said that the M111X R1 would be able to handle it.
-
No GW2 for me I guess =/ -
The refreshed line for AirMacs will bring i5/i7 in the mix (as rumored). The generation before had a GeForce 320M inside it. If they squeeze in a newer/better/more power efficient graphic chip in the refreshed line, then you might be able to play it decently. -
-
The more palpable issue here is that the first Guild Wars was not officially supported on OS X. I believe it depends on ArenaNet to decide whether to also bring Guild Wars 2 on the Mac. I believe they will. -
You'll have to bootcamp into windows for GW2, but it might be feasible. In any case, there is a laptop thread on the GW2Guru forums with anticipated hardware required to run it at high to max settings. There are already a few people from these forums waiting for the beta to test it on their different laptop configs so expet to find reliable data there and of course, i'll be asking for data on the NBR forums as well
.
Back on topic, GW player since early 2006. I don't play much now, but feel free to drop me a pm, make sure to mention you got my id from NBR, when i'm online.
Main character: Adriana Shaitan, Ranger
I got hooked pretty badly into GW at one point, i got a character of every profession and did pretty much everything with most of them. I don't PvP much though. -
-
im not really worried about the gw2 release date as i plan on getting the GWAMM title for my warrior then ill start a necromancer incase gw2 hasnt come out by then.
im really happy with the full hero party as customizing their skills for a mission is really fun. i do hope they turn eve (the necro chick henchman) into a hero so i can bring her with me lol. -
oo nice... yea i started playing GW about 3 years ago... quit for a year and just came back, there are some cool new quest lines in prophesies and eotn now. I just saw they added one to factions too.
-
There is a pattern for the release of release dates:
Guild Wars 1's Release Date was announced on February 14, 2005 (RD: April 28, 2005) 11 weeks
Faction's Release Date was announced on March 10, 2006 (RD: April 28, 2006)
6 weeksish
Nightfall's Release Date was announced on August 24, 2006 (RD: October 27, 2006) 9 weeks
EoTN's Release Date was announced on July 2, 2007 (RD: August 31, 2007)
8 weeksish
When was Guild Wars 1 release date announced? - Guild Wars 2 Guru Forums
So if the game is going to released in September, the date should be known by the end of this month.
Anyway, could this turn out like Duke Nukem Forever did? Everyone was waiting for that game and it didn't play like they all hoped and expected it to be. Are we giving too much expectations to GW2? or are the devs describing exactly what they put in and are only trying to get us MORE anticipated for it's release? (Copy pastaing this into the other GW thread, maybe we should just have ONE thread for GW2 talkage and GW1 geekage?) -
-
Ah alright, what's a smooth prophecy build to get me through the story? I'm thinking of making a couple characters as I buy the new expansions :0
-
You can hire henchmen that will aid you in your quests and such, but their skill and equipment use will be out of your control.
You can also add heroes to your party (customizable builds and equipment) if nobody is around, but they are available only if you have Nightfall or EoTN if I'm correct. They were implemented later in the game (don't think of it as a capitalist feature).
Your best bet would be to look for a PvE guild early. I'm sure there will be plenty of ppl around that will help you. -
That will depend on the profession you're playing
. I'm sure one of us old GW players could come up with something decent with proph only skills for our profession of choice.
You could always drop me a pm when i'm in game which happens a bit rarely. As doombug said, there are no be all end all builds, but there are builds that will get you through most situations. There will always be instances where you'll need to adjust your build, say for example at the prophecies end game when enemies are more resistant to fire, you don't want the usual fire elementalist build...
I'm in the eastern time zone for what it's worth too.
