Hey guys. I really want to get BioShock but I want to know if I should get it for PC or 360. I want the best playing experience possible. My system specs are in my signature. Which should I get?
Thanks,
-Taylor
-
Id get it for the 360. but if you want to game on the go then you will probably see a slideshow. When you have a choice between console or pc then always go for the console when in doubt.
-
Do you have an HDTV? I really don't think it's worth getting the console version since the resolution is so low. I mean yeah, it's guaranteed to run well for everyone, but with the PC version you can turn features on and off to your liking. If you don't like it you can do a nice overclock of your 8600. The only thing I'm worried about is super high res with your 8600GT. Since it's only DDR2 RAM I don't think you'll be able to play at really high res. You much have to play at 1200x800 (Still better than SDTV). Some people say this creates ghosting effects. But When I play games below my native res it's fine. It's just desktop applications that suffer. So yeah, I vote Xbox 360 if you have HDTV but if you don't, I say go with the PC version.
-
I do have an HDTV. If I upgrade my ram to 4GB would it help? And how hard is it to overclock a vid card... I'll be worried that I'd damage it.
Thanks,
-Taylor -
Well if you get it for PC then you have a chance to try out the DX10 features in Bioshock. I think your 8600M GT should at least run it very well on medium settings...
-
I'm starting to regret getting the high rest screen... lol.
Thanks everyone for answering,
-Taylor -
high res is usually used in general work. not gaming. usually.
-
You can bring the resolution down in the games, don't worry. It only looks bad when the desktop isn't using native resolution. Game developers work hard to make the games work on non-native resolutions too.
-
You should get Bioshock for the PC60.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i wouldnt suggest that. i would get it for the xbox PCixty.
-
I'd go PC, and don't be unhappy about your high res screen, trust me you made the right choice. If you lower the res in game the difference isn't horrible (unless you are like a videophile, and need pixel perfection), and out of game having a high res is way way better.
-
i say xpc 360
-
Lol, so far half and half. The only reason I'm still leaning towards PC is because of updates and 'mods' if possible. I have Oblivion for 360 and I wish I had it for PC so I could get mods 'for free.'
Thank you guys for all your responses,
-Taylor -

360 for sure. you will have very little problems running the game. Plus you always know that the game will be highly playable. Cmon...the choice is clear
P.S - Take the money that youre gonna spend on upgrading your PC. And invest in a surround sound setup. You wont regret it -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
don't consoles also get updates these days? they have hard drives... they should get patches...
-
from what i know they do recieve patches. but mods are a different story.
-
i know i'm getting it for my 360; same goes for call of duty 4. it's sad because i used to play so much cod on my desktop before i got my 360 and started playing with a few people i actually know.

I prefer to play games like this on the PC so that's what I would recommend. But then again I don't know how well it will work with Vista and 2GB of ram (i assume u have 2 - not in your sig)
-
first person will always be PC for me, even if I have to turn down the graphics a bit (although if it's too bad I'll go console). Gameplay over graphics 4 life (CRYSIS IS AN EXCEPTION).

If you have a very good connection(T1,cable...) download getbot from below link and after inserting download link press & hold 'G' and then Right-Click repeatedly to make new connections that increase your speed dramatically!

+1 from me too. Now let's get some dx9 vs dx10 benchmarks of this beast. By the way aren't there supposed to be new drivers to come out today specially catered for DX10 and this demo? If so, how fast does laptop2go usually get their modified INF version out?

-
and my laptop comes today =D Thanks a lot!

Barely anyone on this forum has a laptop thats using the radeon 2xxx series right? If so please read:

Since I'm at work and can't test this out myself right now I'd just like to share this info from a Gamespot thread (found here: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/bioshock/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-37638387&pid=924919 )
AMD 3200+
1GB RAM
Nvidia 6600 -128MB
1024X768 resolution, low-med settings:
solid 30+ fps
I have no doubt an 8600M GT will be able to run it very well in medium settings in DX9 mode at least -
Wow, thats sick optimized. My 6600 non gt gets like 500 3d marks haha. If a 8600m gets ~ 3500, it should run high settings without bigger problems =D.
-
Thanks for the links man. Unfortunately the fastest one for me is going at 50kb/s = over 10 hours so hopefully some other places get it up soon.
-
Will have 86GT vs 87GT Bioshock comparison in 12-16 hours. Stay tuned.
-
yeah its very slow... 10 hrs left lol
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Lol by then fileplanet servers will be open, but clogged also.
-
700-1000kb per second, 18%. The getbot program is fast.

OMFG the guy on Gamespot said he was running it with a 6600 128mb at 1024x768 with 30+ frames per second! Can anyone confirm this? I had planned on getting it for Xbox since I assumed it would eat my go7600 128mb for lunch but if I can run it at 1280x800 with med/low settings I would rather have the PC version.

-
Its going up on usenet.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
apparently new drivers need to come out. thats no surprise to anyone.
plus, pc game optimization is still going on, and will continue. -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Oh sh!t, I am stuck at my school campus for 10hrs. Man I want to try out this demo. Guess I am gonna have to wait until later tonight.
Mike. -
Do you need new drivers for DX9?
-
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
you won't need new drivers to run the game, but its almost certain new drivers will be released on account of this game (for both dx9, and especially dx10) that should increase performance.
-
Is it DX9 or DX10 Bioshock PC Demo?? Or both?
-
It is both.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
im glad they didn't cut out rendering paths to decrease the size of the download. quake wars guys pulled something like that with textures and graphics details... it makes it difficult to say how the final game will run.
This is good though. I am definitely gonna buy up bioshock. -
if you are getting slow d/l speeds with getbot, try the Download Accelerator trial, im getting about 120kbs compared to 20kbs w/ getbot.
Thanks OP! -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
I am assuming you guys mean 120 KB? Thats rather slow, I guess will just wait till it comes out officially so I can get 600-800KB. Whats the estimated time for you guys?
-
wow tht getbot thing it REDICULOUS, 500kb/s, i thought i capped at 350
-
which download link did you use to get 500kb/s?
-
I downloaded the demo with getbot with constant 1.5 MB/s and I took me less than 40 mins,I downloaded it at my University Computer Lab!! it was really fast! I used softpedia, MIRROR3 is very slow
but I cann't play at the moment! -
58% going at 600kb a second. Man i would + rep you more for getbot but i ran out already.
