So, who remembers the Giveaway thread from last year? I do. And guess what? Here it comes again. Since I'm not in danger from Wingnut's lawyers and hitmen, I don't have to tip-toe around, haha!
So, in brief, there will be a series of contest, each about a week or so long. At the end of the time period, I'll judge the contestants and pick a winner. Some contests will have a runner-up. And the prizes are free games, gifted through Steam. I will admit, the pickings from Black Friday were a bit sparse, so I won't have the volumes of games Wingnut had last year. But whatever.
If you're willing to donate anything (spare game, money, whatever) to the contest, contact me. You will get a nice shiney commendation at the bottom of the post.
General rules
--You must have joined the NBR forums on or before November 30th, 2011. No exceptions.
--You must have at least 25 substantive posts prior to the gathering of your prize.
--Gifts are given through Steam, and only through Steam. If you refuse to use Steam, tough luck. You forfeit.
----It's recommended to join the NBR Steam group so it makes it easier for me to find you. You don't have to stay there, of course.
--Gifts are at my discretion. Now, I'm not a vindictive, petulant something-or-other, but if I don't like the cut of your gib, I reserve the right to withold the prize. Don't worry. You have to be really, really naughty (probably to the point mods have to step in) for this rule to take effect.
--You can enter as many contests as you want, regardless if you've already won or not.
--Gifts are for the contestants only. I will not gift the game to your friend or dog or mailperson. No exceptions.
Rules specific to the individual contests will be posted below.

<s> CONTEST 1: GUESS THE SCREENSHOT
Begins: Immediately
Ends: December 7, 2011; 11:59PM</s>
WINNERS:
First place: KoldWar. (Claimed Sanctum)
Second place: whitrzac. (Claimed Blood Bowl)
Make sure to read this section in full.
Take a look at this screenshot from an anime series. There will be two winners, a Grand Prize winner and a Runner-Up.
Your task is to basically tell me all you can about this screenshot. What series is it from, episode number, who these two portly gentlemen are, or whatever. Be as thorough as you can. Bonus points if you can tell me why this scene is so funny.
You will have until the deadline to submit your answers, and I will be judging them on how soon they were submitted, their correctness, their thoroughness, and their laff factor. I place more weight on their LOLtasticness and thoroughness, so you don't necessarily have to rush.
PRIZES:
Blood Bowl Legendary Edition
or
Sanctum
Winner has first dibs. Runner-Up gets the remaining game. If you have one or both games already and joined the contest, you forfeit the chance at the games you already own. No reimbursements.
RULES
--You must send my your answers via PM. Answers posted in this thread will be disregarded.
--You can only send ONE PM. If you go "Oh, my first PM didn't have all the info that I wanted to put into it," that's too bad. I'll only judge the first PM. Be sure of your answer before you send it.
--When drafting the PM, the subject line must read "Official Correspondence to High Lord Forge". You must address me in the body of the PM as "The Great Forge, Teh Winnar Of All He Surveys", and sign the PM with "Thus speaks the lowly forumer who seeks a free game and is willing to write such ridiculous things, [your name here]."
-- Make me laugh.
<s> CONTEST 2: REALLY RANDOM NUMBERS
Begins: Immediately
Ends: December 14, 2011; 11:59PM</s>
WINNERS:
First Place: Prydeless (Claimed Dead Island)
Second Place: killkenny1 (Claimed Killing Floor)
Total number of contestants: 31
Sum of entry numbers: 90603.47493
Number of vowels+numbers: 93
Number of consonants: 146
Plugging that into the formula gives me the sub-number of 1861.72
Number of username numbers: 14
First and last contestants' characters (Ryan + Ktulu85): 11
I called my mother, and I asked her "multiply or divide." After a puzzled moment where she wanted to know what her eldest son was doing--"It's not drugs is it, sweetheart?"-- she gave me "multiply".
Thus, 1861.72 * (14/11) = 2369.46
Prydeless is closest at 2333. Killkenny1 is the second-closest at 2626.
Basically, post a number between 1 and 9001 (because 9001 is over 9000).
When the contest ends, I will calculate a number according to a formula (which I will describe below), and give the prizes to the people closest to that number. Winners will be based on absolute distance from the chosen number; you can go over or under the number, but if you're closest, you win. If two people have the same distance from the number, the person who posted first wins. There will be a first place winner and a second place winner.
Formula is as follows:
Code:Sub Number = ([Sum of all entry numbers * (Sum of vowels of contestants' usernames, plus numbers/Sum of consonants in contestants' usernames, including "y")]) / total number of contestants
Code:(number of numbers in all contestants usernames / number of characters in first and last contestants' username
Code:Winning Number = What The Hell Were You Smoking, Forge?
I don't know why the hell I'm doing this. I hate math, despite being Asian, but what the hell. I'll work for you guys.
PRIZES:
Dead Island
or
Left 4 Dead 2
or
Killing Floor + DLC
Winner has first dibs. Runner-Up gets the remaining game. If you have any of the games already and joined the contest, you forfeit the chance at the games you already own. No reimbursements.
RULES
--Post your number in this thread, from 1 to 9001
--You may change your number as much as you like up until the time of judging.
--You must include some variation of "IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND" into your post.
<s> CONTEST 3: THOSE HATS

2. Tree Burner (Claimed Witcher 2)
3. Rayyan (Claimed Dead Space 2)
4. Ktulu85 (Claimed Blood Bowl)
5. DRevan (Claimed Hard Reset)
6. tbsk8ter
Basically, post a picture of yourself with something amusing on your head. People from last year will remember this contest. There will be several winners, based on how many games I have left.
PRIZES:
The Witcher 2 Premium Edition
or
Section 8: Prejudice
or
another Section 8: Prejudice
or
Dead Space 2
or
Left 4 Dead 2
or
Anomaly: Warzone Earth (Special thanks to ray4jc, who donated the game.)
or

or
Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition
or
Sanctum
or
Prototype
or
Hard Resent
(And more to come as I check things)
As before, winner gets first dibs, followed by second place, third, etc. In addition, if they so choose, the top winners may choose to receive Killing Floor guest passes. If there are leftover passes, runners-up will get them if they want. Also, as before, if you already own a game, you forfeit the right to select it.
RULES:
--Entries must be posted in this thread, so anyone viewing it can <s>laugh at you</s> see the good fun.
--Just like in the Selling board, you must have some kind of proof that is it you in the picture. A common way is to scribble your username on a piece of paper and hold it next to you in the picture. ( Example)
--Pictures should be in good taste and not violate any forums rules.
--You are allowed to change your picture as many times as you want. However, do not spam the thread. Should you wish to change your picture, simply edit your initial post with your new picture.
--You are allowed to photoshop the picture to a degree. You can edit the background or miscellaneous details. However, you and the object on your head must be unedited.
<s>--Wingnut is not allowed to put his children on his head for his entry</s> Oh, sure he can -

Cool business. Here's hoping the contests are biased in favor of Chinese speakers or giant children. One's my lifestyle-enriching hobby, and the other's my job - feel free to guess which is which.

I'm interested....

First contest up. To those who did my thing last year, it's going to be very familiar.
And Charlie Sheen has a clause? -

Since I don't look at anime screenshots to avoid saying "BLAAAARGH" to the toilet, here's my entry:
The series is called "Unseen horrors", episode #0. The 2 gentlemen are Beavis and Butthead because it's anime, right? The scene is so funny because I haven't seen it, otherwise I'd be pretty sad conversing with some cold, round-shaped in animate object.
After I win all the prizes, you will give them to GamingACU. -
Thanks for the return of the giveaways, I'll enter once I have something to answer... its been a while since I watched anime... :/
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Don't worry, there will be other contests.
Including hats again. You remember that one, I'm sure. -
Baka thinks Baka might make a small contribution if Baka's lappy is fixed within a week

!! You still remember that one???
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
You had those antenna things, I think.

-
No idea on the anime (never really watched any), but looking forward to other contests!

Using simple search tricks and brute force to find out the answer, I have come up with a few things. The anime in question is called El Cazador de la Bruja, and the episode for the image is 26. For the characters in the image, I believe they played an important role in the first four episodes. In the final episode they lead to the main characters either completing or re-igniting their passion for the mission and complete some sort of circle that was started in the beginning. Now for the names, the left guy I believe is called Steve Beckman and the guy on the right is Pedro.
Now all of this could be wrong as I had to do some decent Google searching for all this information for an anime I have never even heard, mentioned, or seen before. Hell I do not even watch new anime series anymore. Also Google searching random anime terms you found can give you some nasty results.
After some more searching, I have found that the two in the image both want revenge against the main characters. -

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
I'm gonna go with 3/4 because it's the number of bananas in my classroom divided by the number of apples in my classroom. I was tempted to go with 7257 as the approximate weight in milligrams of my pencil sharpener that looks like a tiger (the side of which says, "I am a BRAVE TIGER!" to which I say, "Yes, yes you certainly are.") after sharpening two and a half pencils, but the bananas and apples can be laid out in the appearance of a happy face eating an apple, while the pencil sharpener can't do any cool tricks like that, so the fruit wins.
So once again, my number is 3/4, which is certainly UNDER 9000!!!!
edit: as 3/4 is also UNDER 1!!!!, I'll be amending to 4/3. Shucks. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Last I checked, 3/4 wasn't between 1 and 9001, haha.
But I'll with with 3, though. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
1014 - My birthday number.
However... it is roughly 1/9 from the POWERS OF 9000!
...
Awww... -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
We'll call it 4/3 then, no reason to exclude the apples over a minor mishap like that. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
4/3 it is, haha.
-
2333
Jordan and Pippen, who combined for OVER NINE THOUSAND ASSISTS! -
7777
The number of times I'll say "thank you" if I win "IS OVER 9000" !!! -
I'll go with 1287 which is OVER 9000!!!! if you're clinically insane.
-
I will go with 3567 which IT'S NOT OVER NINE THOUSAND !!!!!
-
I'll go with 999, its below 9000! but it still has le* 9's.
