If i install the sims 2 on my laptop what things do i need for it to play smoothly???

look at the recommenced settings for the game, also if you could provide us with your system specs we would give you a better analysis on what you would need for the game to run smoothly.

The Sims 2 isn't too much of a demanding game. It'll run on the GMA 950 fine, but if you have an outdated processor and a low amount of ram it'll take forever to load and may lag in game play.

Specs:
f you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:
# 600 MHz P3 processor or better
# 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
# At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space
If you have a non-T&L capable video card (such as Intel Extreme Graphics or Radeon 7xxx Series) then you need at least:
# 2.0 GHz processor or better
# 256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
# At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space
T&L=texture and lighting, I think.
As stated any modern processor will likely have enough horsepower to run the program. A good amount of RAM will help it run smoothly.
I would not be concerned, any computer made in the past 2-3 years should be adequate.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -

I'm not sure, it would struggle on quite a few laptops, it's not great on mine! Please post some specs including your graphics card and what available ram it has, as that's the most important.

Don't expect the GMA 950 to run the game smoothly above 1024x768. The game got old for me after two expansions, but hey, you can still call me fan. Having played the game with practically every GPU (let's just say I had a constant habit of buying new laptops) ever since the Radeon Mobility 9000, let me tell you this: don't expect to play the game at 1280x800 full detail with anything less than a Mobility Radeon 9200. In other words, if you have integrated graphics on your laptop, you might as well forget it. If the GPU on your laptop is acceptable however, the next thing I'd suggest is to at least have 2GB of RAM. Don't get me wrong here, the game runs perfectly with anything more than 512MB. Problem is, with limited RAM, the game tends to have stuttering problems after an hour or so of gameplay.
... and as others have said posting your specs would certainly help.

Is all your gonna play Sims 2? Do you care about high resolutions?

It'll get boring after 5 seconds unless your a huge sims fan
It's great, the kids don't look like turd wads (not ugly as hell), theirs lots of crap to do, you can have kids, make your own character (now you can make anybody), etc. You'll love it.
It makes the original sims look like crap. You'll completely forget about Sims 1.. -
you would bare kids, make them grow up, then with the university expansion they go off to college.

Back to the other topic....
Your game wont look extremely crisp until you use a highend graphics card like a 6800 or a 7600 which you dont have. Definately use the 7400. The game is kind of powerful and theres not even something about that GMA cards in the Games Specs. And also the amount of memory on that Intel wont do you to good. The game may stutter etc. Definately use the Nvidia card at all times when doing something graphic. -

Yeah, I agree with Joe080, If you're doing ANYTHING that involves minute graphics power, use the 7400. While it's certainly not a top-of-the line card, it beats the pants off of anything that Intel can throw at it. The only time you should use the Intel graphics is when you're trying to save battery power, or you feel your laptop is getting a little warm (not likely w/7400) when you're surfing the internet/checking E-mail.

Actually, the Go7400 runs fairly hot, in my laptop anyway.
