Anyone out there playing it?
I'm installing it on my notebook right now. Gonna have to play it console-style, I'm afraid, with my notebook hooked up to my TV. Apparently it doesn't play nice on my desktop. Stupid Activation Patch can't decompress properly.
-
Shouldn't there be ~13 more minutes left until unlocking?
-
PC Gaming on TV is the future. Wireless HDMI even better when available.
This is the direction everyone should be heading if PC Gaming is to survive.
Chair+Desk/Table+Headphone/Equivalent doesn't 'fit' nor do today, in today's lifestyle.
TV+Couch+5.1 Surround+Wireless Keyb/Mouse/Gamepad+Friend/Girlfriend around to cheer you up lol is the way to go.
If Witcher 2 is too demanding it will burn its own fingers...
Still a couple of hours remaining -
Almost done with install, about to fire it up momentarily
-
pls tell us in what settings do u run it and ur speqs..thx!!
-
I may be hurting, FRAPS has me at 18-20 outside environment on straight medium settings. Gonna OC and see what happens, temps are pretty tolerable stock.
HDX Dragon 8800m GTS, 1680x1050, 4gb RAM, 2.5 ghz T9300, Win7 Premium 64. Game is beautiful though, see screenie...scene just outside tent after first sequence. Oh yeah, Triss was VERY naked just before this; sorry no screenies

Im currently downloading it from D2D, so hoping to be able to play it here in about 2-3 hours : )

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
For those with nvidia sli systems, download quadro 270.73 with a modded inf since it got a sli profile for it.
-
Weren't they all supposed to unlock at 00:01 UTC? At any rate, from what I've read, it seems that for many people in these parts it unlocked even earlier. I'm on the Australian version, although I reside in Singapore.
Kinda strange that all they changed for the Australian version is one of the quest rewards - you get to pick an item instead of getting . Which I guess is kinda nice. Who needs these silly women, anyway?
What puzzles me is the fact that the rest of the game doesn't seem to be censored. Fired it up on my laptop and bam, it's naked Triss.
I hear that the FPS picks up somewhat after the prologue's over, when there's not so much crap happening all over the place. Had to dial the settings pretty low on my lappy to get it to a playable framerate, and my GPU is just a cut above yours. -
FRAPS is lying about my FPS on my system for some reason. Been posting about it on GAF, but if I switch from High to Medium to Low, my FPS barely changes. If I'm sitting in Triss' tent staring at the wall, FRAPS says I'm getting 30 FPS even though it's ridiculously smooth.
Core i7 720m
6 GB RAM
Radeon 5870 Mobility 1 GB
11.5 Hotfix RC3
Really weird... FRAPS just isn't reporting the FPS accurately. Not sure what's up... game is set up properly, has a Radeon Pro profile, Vsync is forced off... really frustrating. -
YES!!!, GoG.com download is finished.
Not i only got to install it and lets see how much of a improvement this game is.
(Quit Withcer: EE, got bored. Even lagged on my system.) -
Yeah, also having performance issues. Enjoying the game but that's getting in the way. Can usually max most things out but this barely keeps at 30FPS on medium at a lower than usual res of 1600x900 for me.
Tried fiddling with settings but not much improvement.
I've heard the Nvidia 3D drivers may actually interefere with the game so have been told to uninstall those, will see how that goes... -
i run it all all full except ssao, motion blur.cinematic depth of field and ubersampling at 1600x900.fps are steady over 40.
-
Anyone ran it on new macbook pro yet?
Cant check it at work. Long 5 hours to go.
p.s. Game cost $15 if you buy it in russia / ukraine
Not sure if you can install it as "english" though, but i hope you can since translation is usually awkward.
I guess there is at least some benefits to live in ex-ussr. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Nvidia released a new beta 275.27, which supposedly adds a truckload of optimizations on dual core cpus.
Plus a sli profile for The Witcher 2 and a single gpu one, performance maxed out is around a 65% of boost in performance. -
Is that a mobile beta or just for desktop cards? I'm going to assume the later as they're usually not that fast with their mobile division...
-
Actually is for notebooks too-Verde 64 bit Win 7 beta:
NVIDIA DRIVERS 275.27 BETA -
Sweet - will try them out and see if that helps!
EDIT: A barely noticeable 1/2 FPS increase. *Sigh* -
Buying later today, will let you all know how it runs
-
I ran it at HD with the default high settings for my first peek at the game. Butter smooth. Will try ultra and then fiddle with custom settings later, gotta get down to business. First thoughts are that this game is going to be good.
edit... Forgot to mention that in one of the previews I read they stated that it did not have a save game system for pc in place and was checkpointed. It turns out you can save anywhere. -
Make sure before you play on an Nvidia card you update to the 275 series BETA drivers, apparently the difference is staggering.
-
That's another reason I'm waiting. The 485m doesn't seem to get as regular support as other cards, so may have to wait a few months before I get newer drivers.

MahmoudDewy Gaming Laptops Master Race!
Some people say that Ubersampling is devastating to FPS ... try to disable it & check the difference ... Thanks to my 512 KB internet connection downloading the game will take decades & + I am having graduation project overload because the presentation is in 20 days so I can't really test the theory soon enough ...
-
Further into it now and have tried ultra. No go, chugs hard. I did briefly look at the advanced settings and it appears the draw in distance and a few other settings are the only differences in high and ultra so it shouldnt be too hard to test out which one of them makes the difference between being capped and chugging (high vs ultra high). The look of the game in either setting does not appear to change and might only be exposed when comparing screen shots side to side or need more time in game to recognize.
The combat in the game seems easy on the normal difficulty setting although I am only in the prologue/training so that may ramp up when out in the game proper. -
Are the controls the old horrible click system or something new?
-
Can someone help me to find a version for xp32-bit please ? If there is one ... I ask very politely
-
that must be depressing to have dual 6970 and be unable to run average rpg game on ultra >< No offense... i mean, mobile gpus are too far behind their desktop brothers and thats sad for those of us who spent 3k on their notebook alone
-
Downloading, 1/4 of the way done. Going to take another 4 1/2 hours.

GTX 460M, Medium, 720P.
What do you think?
Mr. Mysterious -
Not lookign good. Hopefully they will release a patch that will help with these issues.
Looks like Witcher 2 = modern day "Crysis" ? -
Uninstall any 3d vision software you have installed, apparently it conflicts with The Witcher 2.
From Guru3d forums
Just with the 270.61 drivers I guess? -

I get around 17-22FPS in-game, is there anyway i can up this?
My specs are, i7 820QM, Nvidia GTX 260M, 8GB ddr3 ram. -

clean install your drivers and install the current beta verde drivers (275.someting or another I think)
-
Yup, on high with AA/SSAO/vsync off to my HDTV at 1280x720 and get anywhere from 30-50 FPS. Lookin good. Here's my video on my 2011 MBP. Stock bootcamp drivers, but I am overclocked as well.
YouTube - The Witcher 2 gameplay MacBook Pro 2011 15" i7 AMD 6750M overclock high settings
to be fair, ultra turns on uber sampling which sounds more like an experimental graphical setting. I'm sure with that off, then the game will run decent.. but still probably poorly optimized.
Yes, if I can you will be fine. -
The Happy Swede Notebook Evangelist
ok, i installed the new beta driver, and set the resolution to 1600x900 and now it runs on about 30-35 fps outdoor and 40-45 indoor. This is with the settings on high and the AA, SSAO and Vsync turned off. Im a little disappointed that i have to turn my resolution down, because it looks much worse when not on the native resolution, But i guess its ok...

Not at all, its a given and well known that the most potent mobile gpu options lag well behind desktop graphics. To be honest it wasnt too many laptops ago that the brand new very best money could buy laptop would at best be able to play a brand new graphically intense game at moderate settings. Often then only with careful adjustment of the options and at a lower resolution than a desktop counterpart would be playing.
Make no mistake people. This is not a console port with a few gussied up character skins and slight ramp on the near textures. This game has all manner of swaying grass, trees, not just at your feet but out into the mid distance and I never noticed draw in. The textures are detailed both near and out into the distance. The models are complex. Someone asked is this the new crysis? Both yes and no. Yes in that you have some of the first true pc graphics I have seen in a while and the graphics are right up there with crysis, IMO better. No in that crysis was unplayable at the highest settings on any machine when it released. This game is playable at high settings on a current generation laptop and considering how I was capping on high settings I'm willing to bet that when I go into the options almost all of which are the same on ultra and change a couple of those it will play with nearly everything maxed. I cant guess if a desktop will be able to click ultra and run smoothy but it may be that it can.
Also consider that you can bet there will be witcher 2 specific optimizations in drivers here shortly.
Am I depressed? No, color me happy. -

Game runs like absolute crap for me. I get like 15-25 fps at most, even tried with 640x480 (low settings). I mean, I know my videocard ain't very good, but I've never seen performance this bad. Crysis 1 runs much better (25+ fps at 900p with everything high except shaders/shadows on mid), Just Cause 2 too (40 fps at 720p, everything high except shadows on low and no AA).
-
This might not be much help, but I am playing on my desktop with an MASSIVELY overclocked 460 gtx 768mb and a overclocked phenom II x4 and.... this game is bringing my PC to it's knees.
reference point... this computer maxes EVERY game with no issues. Their must be some sort of bug or problem with the drivers.
FWIW. -
Been playing around a little more, it appears like at least in my case the thing that chokes me is the textures. On the highest setting its kneecap action. The game is clearly capable of flooding my hardware (texture memory) and I think this would be my first stop for the guys struggling.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
also take note.
SLI doesn't work for the game yet. Anyone with dual 6950s or whatever you're only using 1 gpu. -
1920x1200, everything maxed except for ubersampling off, I get 25-40 fps on average, this is with the new drivers as well. Very pretty game.
So far the combat is really annoying me though, I have died three times in the first 5 minutes and it's not like im new to these games. -
I started off getting worked over by the enemies in the Prologue, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.
-
Can anyone please explain if the controls are like W1 or less click? Also what is the size of the actual install? The reqs say 16gb but does it really need that much?
-
About 14gb for install on my system.
-
What's the combat style like now? It's no longer timed clicks and watching the animations go but a lot more button presses. Is the difficulty setting really punishing if set too high early on?
-
Thanks Narsnail and Harleyquin07
-
Would a fix require an ATI patch or a patch from the game developers themselves?
I have a 3870 in sli on my gaming laptop, and I doubt the game will run without SLI enabled. -
Still downloading the game from GoG.com
Anyone here who has already tried it on a G73? How's performance? Sort of worried that my notebook might not be able to handle the game.
