In the witcher whenever I go into a cutscene or a conversation with someone, it appears that there are many horizontal bars, that seem to make up the characters. It is quite noticable and annoying. For example, a persons forehead would be basically cut up into bars.

It only happens in conversations and cutscenes. My specs are in my sig. I have tried to tweak the graphics settings around, to no avail.

I am currently running it a medium, however i get them at low and high too.

    Please help

Does it just look extra pixelated? Because when I play the cutscenes look really pixelated for some reason.

Hasn't really affected my enjoyment of the game though

I haven't had that particular problem with the Witcher but it is by far the buggiest game I have ever purchased. Although it is badged a Game for Windows I have installed and patched it on 3 (2 Vista, 1 XP) different computers and never had it run without crashing for more than 20 mins at a time. Just keep in mind that in a couple of months they are releasing a much "improved" version of the game and its supposed to be free to those that purchased the original game, thats what I'm waiting for.

It's not necessarily "buggy". I had the same problem you did, with crashes after playing for a while. What you need to do is to allow more virtual memory to be allocated to programs, from 2 GB to maybe 2.5-3 GB. And delete old autosave points so that you only have 3-4 at any time.

It never crashed once after I made the necessary changes.

    1. Don't overclock when playing this game.
    2. Turn Depth of field off in the advanced options.
    3. Follow Lithus advice regarding save games and the virtual memory allocation. Go to the command prompt in Vista and type in BCDEDIT /set IncreaseUserVa 2800 and then restart your PC.
    4. Regular defrags of your HDD after each playing session and backups of your save games are highly recommended.

All the fixes and additions will be available via download to all those that suffered through the bugs and design problems of the original release. In some ways I'm really happy about the revision and all the work theyre doing, but honestly, the "enhanced" edition should have been the initial release.

At least now I should be content to play through the game again at any rate, it was engaging and tons of fun, apart from the way too often crashing and insane and too often load times, not to mention all the clones, horrific inventory system the list goes on, this game in particular to me seemed like a raw beta build, it did well so now it seems they are going to do us a favor and finish it.

Note to OP: If you own the downloaded version grab the latest 1.2a patch since it supposedly solves an incompatibility issue between 1.2 and Vista. It might help with the graphical corruption during cutscenes.

    I have drivers 163.44

I noticed it only happens when I have the lighting quality at medium or high. I turn it to low and it runs perfect...

It's almost too sad because I am in the thick of the Witcher now, and by the time this new release comes I will be through with the game most likely. :(
