I played the Witcher when it first came out, it was a pretty good game, though graphically intensive and buggy. Hopefully this second edition has fixed all the bugs and optimized the graphics.

If you like Neverwinter Nights, you'll like this game.

No. It's nothing like Oblivion. It's much more of a linear RPG with a branching storyline than a sandbox open world. Like I said, it's much closer to NWN and KOTOR.

Generally,I dislike RPG's,but couldn't leave "the witcher" alone and plan to play it for a third time when patch 1.4 is available for download [not steam]

If this thread was started a few months ago I would have recommended the OP download from Steam, however with the Enhanced Edition coming out/already released it's better to get that since all of the old bugs will be ironed out with new game features thrown in.

Anyone that has the original can just download the free 2 gig update that is the Enhanced Edition.. The load times are 80% faster, they added some emotes for NPCs, added a bit more variation in the NPCs and monsters you see around the gameworld, and added a few more quests.

Buying the physical Enhanced Edition version just has a few extra DVDs of music, making of Witcher, the game editor, paper map, and a game guide. I bought the Enhanced Edition since I never had the original Witcher. Only got through the prologue but so far the game is lots of fun.

I'm disappointed with the cut scenes though, they are displayed in low res textures and it runs really chopppy.. But then when I play the actual game, I have everything completely maxed running at 1680x1050 res and it runs as smooth as butter. I'm running a Sager 5793, Intel T9300, 4 gig RAM, 8800GTX, 200 GB 7200rpm HDD.

I got it earlier this week and so far it is amazing and runs on max settings on my p-7811 FX. I love this game in every aspect. Think of it as KOTOR but set in the in a beautifully crafted medieval world. It looks a lot better than KOTOR better than KOTOR also....My minor complaint is that the combat (so far I just beat the prologue) does not look promising to be worth 50 hours of gameplay

and Cheez KOTOR in medieval that would be great say no more. Why dont you like the combat?

The EE for people who bought the original will be available tomorrow the 19th. You have to register the game first through thewitcher.com.

Not as huge as my p...

Whoops, sorry. Been playing too much Witcher.

If you can download the Enhanced Edition right off of Steam/D2D/whatever, then do that. Else, the EE patch downloads quite quickly off of Fileplanet (~300kbps for me, over here in Singapore), and it's a really simple patch. If you stick the four executables (patch + language pack + 2 extra adventures) in the same directory, then run the EE patch executable, it'll run through installation of all four for you.

The download site the community webpage uses is quite fast and supports download managers, I managed to get the whole lot in just under a day.

The patch 1.4 certainly speeds up the loading time.....a lot,and seems to run a bit faster to me.....can't say I've noticed much in the way of different voice overs and dialogue though so far.....was kinda hoping they would add more lover conquest's for Geralt,as corney as they are, still add's another dimension of fun to the game :D

Does anybody else think that the cutscenes have decreased in image quality after 1.4 ?

I've noticed a few small changes in dialogue in the prologue and the start of Chapter 1 (not going any further just yet). My beef with the cutscenes is that they don't look all that different but run more slowly than my unpatched 1.3 version.

I can run this on max settings in 1920x1200 resolution and to me, no they do not look nearly as bad as PS1.

Your probably right, last time I played it was on a M1730 at 1920x1200 so its probably just that v 1440x900 but I agree they seem to not play that smoothly when compared to the game itself.

I'm about halfway through chapter 2........and chapters 3 and 5 always seemed to have the most inconsistent framerates previously,so I'm interested in whether they have improved those parts.

Has anyone played the Kaer Morhen add on [the price of neutrality],the sound for dialogue still seems to be missing [like patch 1.3],plus the textures for 3 of the characters is seriously messed up[unlike patch 1.3]
I'm starting to wonder if its corrupted because I was doing other things on my laptop while upgrading the patches.

I've got exactly same problem after installing 1.4:
    [IMG] [IMG]
changing drivers didn't help and game also run slower (overall).
So I'm going wait (couple weeks) for patch fixing patch, or reinstalling back to version 1.3.
