Been playing throught he witcher enhanced edition lately and thought id mention how enjoyible it is........
It takes a rpg game and turns it into a very mature game, with interested quests that are much more realistic than alot of rpg games ive played in the past.
It is shady, not a game with clear cut good vs bad, but more grey and unknown...
A quote from the game" thankyou foe helping me........i choose the lesser of two evils"...classic
what other games have you guys played that have a more mature style gameplay..? Its quite refreshing to focus the humor and gameplay to a more mature audience...
So far its a 8.5/10 game and a definate play for people that enjoy rpg's and havent played it already.

It's old (like, sprite old), but Fallout 2 is fantastic, if you can get past the turnbased combat (mind you, some people like it, so I suppose I shouldn't say that).

Mind you, there's mature, and then there's just chucking in gratuitous explicit content... I'd gotten the impression that The Witcher was closer to the latter?

That said, if it's an enjoyable game (the reviews I've heard weren't too glowing, but then reviews aren't often too good an indicator), I might give it a shot... Been looking for a truly great RPG since I clocked my thousand-and-somethingth hour on bloody Morrowind...

Stranger, Dungeon Lords (vomit), Oblivion (just wasn't that great IMO) and god knows how many other titles later, I'm still looking XD

Well i wasnt really refuring the the xxx adult content within witcher mate, which is there and you can avoid it completely.....i was more refering to the style of gameplay, the quests and the like.....
For example when you enter a inn/tavern you can fistfight, gamble and drink to win cash, get info etc......thats what a would expect one to do when entering a tavern right....gameplay is good, and the combat system is also enjoyible.....for a action rpg its got a nice twist......
Im not sure about reviews but its a definate play.....ps i loved morrowind as well.......but this is alot more dark

No probs, if you pick it up....make sure you get the enhanced edition or if you get the original download the enhacement for free, (1.5gb) it smooths out the bugs to do with load times and translation errors.......improves the graphics( which are already topnotch) and also improves the interface as well.....

Yet another clickfest though. I bought into the hype and decided to give it a go. I realize these kinds of RPG's aren't for me. Click click click click click click, cutscene, click click click click click click click, cutscene, click click click ad nauseum.

Ignoring the timed-clicking combat, it's the skeezy approach to adult content in The Witcher that bothers me enough to just not bother with the game. Having relations with women and collecting them literally like trading cards? Really, this is how far we've come?

I loved the witcher, the dark gameplay and mature storyline. The world is gritty and grim and the graphics are great. The collecting women i just found funny, i agree its a silly part of the game but just ignore it ;)

I think it's totally unfair to write off the Witcher because of the "collecting" women part. Granted it's a bit silly, but the game is fantastic and totally worth checking out. The conquests of women is optional, and not a reason to overlook a great RPG.

Fallout 3 is somewhat similar in it's approach to storytelling, though it's much more open-world than The Witcher.

Not to mention those were the reasons why the game was considered 'mature'. For sure I will give it a try now that the 'enhanced edition' (a.k.a. what the game should have been on the first place) is out and the comments are favorable in terms of stability (yeah, I did not liked it when it crashed while I was saving the game).

Well for me i dont bother with the woman part of the game, as some have said its silly and after the first conquest didnt bother with it, but the game play is enjoyible, good story line, varied missions and enjoyible combat....granted it is a click feast but at least in this game you can stack up combo attacks by timing ones swing and if you play on the hardest setting you get no prompts so you have to work out the attacking style, as well as having 3 different styles depending on the opponent give me enough interest to not get to bored with it all.
So please dont right of the game because of one aspect of a game that is obtional and a rather small part of the game.....the rest of it is well thought out and enjoyible.

The combat and "collectible items" aspects have been frequently cited as turn-offs, however I really like the story, atmosphere and decisions you are forced to make during the game.

Dice Poker is cool though, nothing better than taking King Foltest for several thousand if you get lucky and play your dice right.

Though I do agree the card collecting part is a bit absurd, the story and game play are both amazing.

Replay value is also there since the story changes depending on which side you choose to ally yourself with.

Also the developer CD Projekt deserves due credit taking into account pretty much all the criticism against the game, fixing it, and releasing the resulting enhanced edition as a free update.

I bought and played The Witcher when it was originally released, not the EE and thought it was the best RPG to come out in years ! Have downloaded content to make it the EE, but haven't played it again.................yet !

Having to much fun playing Drankensang ! Looks like until Bioware comes out with Dragon Age, that the Europeans are the only ones that know how to make a real RPG !

Women collecting? Hmm my pokemon playing friiend may like this game then. "Gotta catch them all" :D

This is one of the games I meant to get but never did, I had the chance to get it really cheap in that circuit city going out of business sale (like $10) I think I will play Last Remnant first, and then try to get to this one.

its hilarious and fun to watch the NPCs you captured with the PokeBalls and unleashing them to fight for you while you just stand and watch. :)

Yeah but Oblivion... Its been blasphemed.

If you use cheats to unlock all moves/spells you can summon a lot of interesting things that you normally cant do.

no need to cheat... the game is fun enough when you make your own spells... to create mayhem.

    the mods are fun though.

Yeah ive had a break from the witcher over the past couple days and been playing through oblivion....mainly doing the quests related to the 'OOO' mod.....got some great equipment, the dragon armor and just picked up the sword that gets stronger with the more vampires you kill.....fantastic fun....
They are both really enjoyible RPG'S but for completely different reasons.

After finishing the original Witcher i felt such a peace that i've never felt before (even with such good RPG's as NWN, NWN2, Jade Empire, Fallouts, BG2 etc). And RPG's are my favourite.

Darn, those polish guys did a very good job with their game! Everyone should try it. Except those under 18. :D

I love the witcher EE game.my first RPG and I get hooked. Colecting things from tables and furniture, making potions, a lot of fight with the monsters, secrest to be revealed. The game is very interesting. I hope that they make a second part. Also I want to buy the witcher the rise of the white wolf (that is the same game but diferent combat style) when it comes out.

ps: Also I love pokemon, my child games :D
