And I stumbled across the articles for the m1330. I'm very excited for it's release as I have my heart set on this notebook. But the predicted specs for the 8400m gs GPU have me worried... What should I expect to be able to play on that card?

I got the info from the main page:

I currently have an E1705 with a stock-clocked 7900 GS and don't really play games anymore besides CS 1.6 and maybe WoW or something in the future.

I was wanting to get the small XPS but occasionaly like to play a game like STALKER as well so I was wondering if the 8400m GS is too weak to game with, really.

I as REALLY hoping for the 8400m GT, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed though! :)

Yup, 8400GS is pretty much low-end gaming. I wouldn't go after the XPS just by looks. I'd say look into a very good 15.4" laptop for portable gaming.

    Check this out: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

It shows it performs right around the 7600. You'd have a pretty tough time running STALKER off the GPU alone. Not to mention, there have been rumors that this baby will go over $2000. With all due respect, even if it's one big shiny object, I wouldn't go after it for gaming purposes. Not to mention, there are some really good deals right now on laptops where you can play even games like Crysis and UT3 at mid-to-high settings for the same price as what this laptop will surely be. ;)

Of course, that's just my opinion.

I see what you mean Ridley!

The only reason I am considering the purchase is because my 17" with the 7900GS is really too much laptop for what I need to do. I thought I was going to game a fair amount, but as it ends up I really can't get into video games so I now want a portable machine for writing/research and was looking at the old 12" XPS.

I guess I can look at the Sony 13" laptop aswell, but I just didn't want to give up too much performance for a smaller laptop. I would purchase the XPS 1210, but figured I might as well wait for new technology if I do decide to purchase, you know?

Totally understandable. I feel the same way, trust me. I used to play games all the time until I got into college. Now I just play the spare game here and there (Company of Heroes, a bit of STALKER, CSS, etc.). That's why I'm sort of hoping that there will be a 15.4" laptop with an 8700/8800GT released with the Santa Rosa platform. As much as I like looking at the C90S, it'd be cool to have a battery that would last me in case the power went out. That's the problem with living in the Midwest USA. ;)

If you find any great deals, let us know. I think you should look at the 8600GS instead of the 8400GS, personally, since it won't be as good as the GT but you know you'll be able to play games like STALKER for a while.

I'm also thinking about purchasing XPS 1330, but since I also might want to play some upcoming games(mmorpg's).. Im starting to think this is not the machine for me.

Upcoming asus F8 looks promising though, 14" and It should also has a kind of good CPU. Rumors(?) say that it would be ATI HD 2600, I guess asus will confirm it soon enough anyway :)
