I was wondering what is the best ATI drivers out. For preformance wise. I tried E-Wrecked's modded drivers and they were ok, I currenty have 9.8 installed and there alot better. One thing though why does it say in GPU-Z 3870X2 when I only have one GPU. Also did anyone ever hear of not being able to OC a 3870. I tried 6 diffrent drivers and nothing works. ATI tool if you move the sliders up and hit set clocks it just goes back to the stock clocks same with amd gpu clock tool. Rivatuner wont give me an option to OC, The CCC does not have Overdrive in it. I dont understand why it cant be overclocked.

I posted a screen shot and as you can see it says 3870X2. That benchmark is stock except for the CPU is OC'd. Thats not a bad score is it?

It says 3870x2 because that's the name that corresponds to the card's DeviceID in the driver information file. To change this, just edit the 3870x2 name in the driver .inf file. and reinstall the driver.

As for overclocking, have you tried this:

That GPUTool is awesome. It's the ONLY tool that would change clock speeds on my Dell.

Something marketplace related if I remember correctly. However, if you check the dates this is a 6 month old thread that just got resurrected (not for a horrible reason mind you, someone found it using search, used information on it, and thanked a poster.)

People do dumb things at times ;) Follow the forum rules and you won't have any problems.

Back on-topic now. If you have an ATI card that's supported, I highly recommend the Catalyst 10.3 betas, or waiting for the actual drop which should hopefully happen soon.

I think it was a dead motherboard. I haven't had any feedback from them, I think it's just a "send it away, get it back working (or not) job", they aren't going to tell me what's wrong. But the store that I took it back to to ship to Toshiba says it's some sort of power problem, they asked me if there were any power surges. Could be the USB hub as well, I was charging my iPod on it at the time.

    Anyway, back on topic:

What you pretty much want to do is gradually raise the clocks (using the sliders), over time. So, first off, raise it something like ten percent from your default clocks. Eg: From 600 to 660...you get the idea. Test it for stability by running a game, Furmark, or the inbuilt stability test. If that runs fine, (which it should, it's only ten percent more) then you can raise the clocks probably up to eg: 700 from your 660 that you were at before. And stability test again, check temps, etc. Optimally, you want temps under 85C, 90C is probably the max you'll want to go. Keep on raising the clocks in this fashion until you either hit a temperature that is too high, or you reach the cards highest tolerances (you'll know because you will either get a hard lock up, BSOD, or it will artifact).

Note: You will want to treat overclocking the memory very carefully. A lot of GPU's don't have a temperature diode on the memory, so therefore you can't tell if your memory is getting damaged by too much heat or not. Be careful, while VRAM overclocking will generally net you the biggest performance boost, it is also the most dangerous. You can shorten the life of your GPU quite easily if you have the memory clocks too high.

Just to give you an idea, I had my 3650 clocked at 725Mhz on the core, and 575Mhz on the memory, up from the default 600 on core, and 500 on memory. I found if I took the memory anything past 585Mhz, it would artifact. So I left the 10Mhz buffer there for safety. I probably could have taken the core up to 750Mhz, but I decided to leave it at 725Mhz, just gives you a little more room to account for heat. Also, the reason my memory clocks are quite low is because my GPU has DDR2 VRAM. If you have GDDR3 or higher, you can overclock much easier and higher. The same safety principle applies though.

    Good luck. :)
