    Post your favorites.

    - Audiosurf - Fantastic game. Use your favorite mp3 tracks to create a uniqe experience as you race through an addicting course, with visuals that change to the tunes of the chosen mp3 track.

    - Braid - Jonathan Blow's indie masterpiece.

    - Battlefield Heroes - Fun alternative quirky action game. Battlefield meets Gears of War meets World of Warcraft. It's not the Battlefield we know, but it's polished for a free to play game.

    - S4 League, a "successor" to gunz, this Korean developed high concept e-sport Manga shooter oozes with style, fast gameplay and tons of unlockable clothes and weapons, as you battle with and against other online players.

    - Counter-Strike - The mod that changed the world. Still the most celebrated online shooter of all time, even after a decade.

    - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Of all the GTA's Vice City was the one that became more than the sum of it's part. Celebrating the 80s, with nods to Miami Vice and Scarface, this game became the closet thing we have ever gotten to an 80s simulator. If simulation can be an artform, then VC would be an incredible art piece.

    - World of Goo - Fantastic game. Already a hit on the Wii.

    - Defcon - Orchestrating the end of the world through a neon map of the entire world. Less is more is the key, as nuclear winter becomes a reality.

    - Beyond good and Evil - Ubisoft's underappreciated tripe A adventure game.

    - Rome: Total War - According to many, still one of the best strategy games of all time.

    - Starcraft - The master of all RTS. Still adored to this day.

    - Guild Wars - The series that has sold over 6 million copies. Nobody could have predicted that ArenaNet(a new company) coming out of nowhere with a game nobody had heard of, would become such a breakthrough success. The game is still played by millions and continue to sell.

    - Mount and Blade - Authentic sword combat, authentic castle sieges and medival warfare, with bow and arrow on horse, or charging enemy settlements with hundreds of soldiers and mercenaries for hire. MnB is uniqe.

    - DOTA - So good, it became a Swedish techno music hit.

    - Crayon Physics - Fun and charming game.

    - Quake Live - Quake 3 reinvented through a simple internet browser.

    - Deus Ex - One of the best PC games of all time. Still worth playing.

    - Homeworld 2 - Fantastic strategy game.

    - Max Payne

    - Black and White

    - Sid Meier's Pirates!

    - Civilization IV

    - Halo

    - Grim Fandango

    - Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

    - Freelancer

    - Runes of Magic(the best "free" alternative to WoW right now)

    - Mafia

    - Battlefield 1942

    - Fahrenheit(Indigo Prophecy)

    - Jedi Knight II: Outcast

    - Jedi Academy

    - America's Army

    - Enemy Territory(RtCW)

    - Fable

    - Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

    - UT 2K4

    - Prince of Persia 1, 2 and 3

    - Condemned

    - Far Cry

you guys have any others? :)

    Why is Half-Life and Half-Life 2 missing?

Those games made big splashes in the gaming world back in the day (circa 1998 and 2004/2005).

Half-Life was a good game in my opinion. It was my first real game, and I still play it occasionally.
Counter-Strike was a Half-Life derivative; that doesn't count - Half-Life still deserves to be on the list.

If we're talking really low specs, an snes emulator solves all your problems: super mario, zelda, super metroid, old square rpgs like chrono trigger, megaman series, mario kart.... endless good times.

Also, Fallout 1&2, Blade Runner, Doom, old school lucas arts adventure games like Secret of Monkey Island, etc.

Obviously this is a matter of opinion, but HL, HL2, HL2 episodes 1 &2 together make the best game/series ever IMO. You can really put any source engine game on this list because they run so well even with older hardware.

Braid, while fantastic, has deceptively high system requirement, because all the sprites are drawn at 720p. It won't run on netbooks, for example.

    Also:

    Plants VS Zombies is great
Dungeon Siege and Dungeon siege 2 are great 2D Diablo clones.

alot of members does not mean the best. ultima online's gameplay and skill/pvp system was and still is the best. although visually outdated, there still isn't a game that can touch UO's gameplay before the facet crap.

after 15 or so years, i'm still waitin for somethin like UO to bring me back into the MMO world.

Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies, and basically every Popcap game.

If you put Sins of a Solar Empire on all low settings, it has pretty low requirements.

    Sorry for the quick hijack...

    gog.com

And to the matter at hand...low system requirements...I'm still using a 7-series nVidia card, and I play most everything available so 'low' may be somewhat relative...to me, 'low' eliminates most FPSs and a lot of RTSs...

    X-com series = Brilliant.

Still waiting for something new to rival the original X-com's, all the newest efforts have been poor at best.

Just wondering here, could Total Annihilation run on a netbook? Bloody incredible RTS, easily out classed anything available back then, now been superseded by Supreme Commander (which would make a netbook ignite).

    thanks that website seems awesome.

as far as the games working for a newer computer...i guess im just so used to no backward compatability with the consoles that i assumed it would be true for computer games also (i am new to pc gaming for the most part)

    Mount & Blade ( http://www.taleworlds.com )

There's a full featured level-limited demo. (It caps you at level 7, which can take 3-4 hours to reach, so you get a GREAT feel for the whole game)

It can even run on DX7. Looks better on DX9 of course. Graphics aren't great, but they are good enough to immerse you - that's for sure.

    Amen.

Just got back from Best Buy...some publisher is selling a Fallout compilation...Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics for 19.99...didn't look to see what the system requirements were since I already have all the titles (including the spiral bound Vault guides)...

I would imagine that if they took the time to re-publish and re-package them that they should work fine on modern systems...

Eye candy aside, sometimes I just think older games are more fun...despite just buying Universe at War on Steam, I was playing Archon for my C64 emulator today...it's probably not more fun, and I'm just pining for nostalgia...

I love this game. I have been looking for Sword fighting games like this for years since first playing Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy online.

Did you know that they are making a 32 player online multiplayer expansion?

Warcraft 3 TFT and Diablo 2 hands down 2 of the best video games in existence. Be it WC3 is now called Dota by most of the general public lol.
