Of games that are out right now, which would you say is the most graphic-intensive?
-
i got to say out of the ones ive played, F.E.A.R is pretty demanding. The graphics are insane, but i haven't played alot of games so my answer is probably inaccurate.
-
Rainbow six vegas
Stalker
Oblivion
the only games i have to play on 800x600 on my desktop radeon 9800 PRO (i can play 1024x768 on oblivion) -
-
COH is pretty solid
-
i heard splinter cell: double agent is demanding too
-
-
-
I was just looking as some random pics of Oblivion on some site, so who knows.
My pics of Oblivion are 1920x1200. -
Elder Scrolls Oblivion and some of those new fangled first-person shooters that people are mentioning.
-
i have 360 as well and i just think rainbow six vegas and splinter cell double agent were just ported poorly over to the PC. but they do both have awesome graphics.

I would say oblivion with the 2048 x 2048 texture mod is the most taxing.
stalker doesnt tax my system at all I think that doesnt belong on this list at all. Nothing like oblivion level. -
I really don't think oblivion is taxing at all on my video card...since i get pretty low gpu temps, which leads me to believe they could have programmed it a bit better to fully use the resources on my system. People have to understand, just because Oblivion's requirements are way up there in terms of hardware, and it takes a lot of hardware to run it properly, it doesn't really mean it uses that hardware to its fullest -- so it doesn't really stress your gpu as much as it should. That being said, I get the highest temps on F.e.a.r. and Company of Heroes at max settings, and I can definitely see that those games are giving my gpu (and fans) a work out.
-
F.E.A.R. is pretty heafty too, but doesn't tax nearly as much as oblivion.
Especially when you turn grass and shadows on hehe.
I vote oblivion. But I think we should see some new games that will tax the hell out of our systems and look amazing later this year. Yeah, I'm looking at Bioshock and some of the UT2k7 games. -
Currently, I also have to say it's Oblivion, especially with the best texture mods available and all graphics setting cranked to maximum (HDR+AA, shadows, grass etc.). Even more, some graphics settings can be edited in the .ini beyond their in-game maximum value..

And Oblivion is probably the most demanding game out there right now, but I don't know how much credit it should really be given since it's really just poorly optimized shader hell. -

on my 8800GTX FEAR gets between 50 and 190 FPS on the graphics test at 1920x1200 and I usually see 60-140 in game. Oblivion, same resolution with all the eye candy and a few testure mods, gets around 40-70 fps in game.
most system intensive game: supreme commander -
With my setup, I can play Oblivion on 1920X1200, maxed settings...
I'm thinking that there are more detailed games than Oblivion, though...F.E.A.R., I should think..
Maybe I should find out.
^.^ -
Oblivion by a landslide. By all accounts the Oblivion graphics engine is coded very inefficiently for what it does, if for no other reason than to make you go out and buy that $800 graphics card.
-
-
supreme comanders?
-
When you turn up grass and shadows and AA/AF to max on Oblivion, the 8800GTX gets less than 20 FPS. Yeah, the 8800GTX.

I would have to say Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
Aside from the game being 6 GB, there is an additional setting in the textures area, reading "EXTRA HIGH." When selected, an alert pops up saying "Only select this when you have at LEAST 2 GB of ram AND a 512 MB video card. The game would play smoothly when on extra high, except whenever i enter a different room or turn a corner, where it would load of the next set of textures.
I used to have 1gb of ram in my dell 9400 (with 7900 gs), but it would start paging my memory for an endless amount of time when i would load up a larger multiplayer map.. forcing me to reboot due to unresponsiveness (im talking 10 mins here folks). After upgrading my lappy, i finally was able to alt-tab and see the task manager... the game was taking up 1.03 GB of RAM! That being higher than my actual physical RAM size, windows was FORCED to page the game ITSELF while using it... amazing. Anywho, theres my vote. -
Company of Heroes 8 player, and get all units on screen at once fighting it out in a massive clash. I dropped to 2 fps once, even with my desktop X1950Pro.
-
How far did you get through the game? I got to the last chapter I think and got bored with it. Not a bad game though.
I liked kicking guys into traps. -

F.E.A.R will do a good job of taxing your system, but games like BF2142 will give you a workout when it comes to RAM. On the other hand, Quake 4 on Ultra settings is a pretty good stress-tester cause you have to have a high-end system with 512MB just to do it. I can run Quake 4 on High at 1440x900 just fine with 60fps, but as soon as I go to Ultra, I lag out to like 10-15fps, just because the textures are so large that you either need a fast GPU (like at least a 7800GTX) or 512MB vRAM on a slightly less powerful (like a 7900GS).
But from what I hear, Oblivion still takes the most stressful award. -
It's kinda neat that I can go out, buy a top of the line card in a brand new desktop next year and still not play games at the highest settings.
I like that they're programming for the next generation of hardware. I'd like to get 2 8800's in SLI so I can really play Oblivion :-D But even then not sure if I could turn the settings all the way up. -
Well they do that so that the graphics aren't obsolete when the game comes out. Right now there are very very few computers that can play SupCom at 100% on the biggest map, with 8 AI. They made it that way so that the game kinda morphs into the newest tech that comes out.
And Oblivion does that, but its kinda two ways, they really could have coded it better. But it certainly looks nice. -
Yeah, but it's not like it was 5 years ago, when games were programmed for current hardware.
-
Fren no way, what kind of setup do you have that gets 20fps with the 8800GTX? Well count in 40-70 fps outside when running with my system a Core2Duo E6600 overclocked to 2.93GHz 2GB Ram and a 8800GTX.
All this with many visual enhancement mods all maxed settings, grass point lighting, shadows on grass you name it. Modify your ini file folks. I have modified it for over 6 months now and have a very good ini file. It takes time. But 20fps, I'll laugh at that. What kind of CPU do you have? -
andrew.brandon Notebook Evangelist
any good links for modifying the .ini file? currently downloading Quarls texture pack 3. with 4096x4096 textures I will be looking for any help I can get. -
I play at 1440x900 since this is what max resolution my TFT monitor has and 4xAA and 16xAF. Maybe you play the game at 16xAA, still I get way over more than 20fps with 16xAA, just a few fps lower than with 4xAA.
I run with Qarl's Texture Pack 2, with texture pack 3 I didn't notice any particular increase in graphics quality, just more stuttering and more texture memory usage. I use 4096x4096 lod textures. Blue Steel's lod textures.
1920x1200 is a pretty high resolution, but even my laptop Dell M170 with a overclocked 7800GTX can play this game at 1920x1200 not all maxed though, but with Qarl's Texture Pack 2 installed at 20-25 fps in heavily wooded areas.
One tip though is to download Low Poly grass which will give you a nice FPS boost. Also Oblivion Polygon Overhaul would help you out.
For ini tweaking you can check at www.tweakguides.com and you have a guide at Atomic PC too. -

thanks. will check it out

I think Oblivion is very hard for your videocard, so is FEAR and Stalker. For CPU: without any doubt Supreme Commander with 500 units and 5 bots on a 81x81 km map.

EDIT: why is the word Z.O.O.M in the language filter? wtf? -
it's gotta be supreme commander, but F.E.A.R is still a pretty demanding game, even after 2 years.
Oblivion is also demanding, but mostly because it's poorly cooded
The most graphic-intensive game
