It's old news, but don't remember discussing it on NBR. It has been confirmed there will be no Darksiders III. It also seems Darksiders III was the reason CryTek didn't buy Vigil Games. Vigil Games was already working on D3 and CryTek had no interest in the game. So now former Vigil Games, now CryTek USA is developing probably another boring shooter...

Crytek USA won't develop Darksiders III | News | PC Gamer

Personally I think it's smart for a company to diversify. When you remain stagnant, you eventually fail. CryTek is expanding fast, but they aren't evolving, I would not predict CryTek surviving much longer at this rate. I think they should have gone with a CryEngine 3 Darksiders III. There is a good reason why EA is the biggest, they have RPG, third person shooter, FPS, MMORPG, racing sims, sports, and more.

Too bad for Yuri being so closed minded, he missed a great opportunity to diversify.

umm right now the darksiders IP is still owned by THQ. They are going to put it up for sale and a bunch of other lesser-known or old IPs in April. Even if they want to, Crytek has no right to develop a Darksiders title.

You really think Crytek is a good choice to develop an action RPG? It's not exactly their strong suit (not that Vigil was particularly good at it, either.) I'd rather see another shooter based on bleeding-edge tech than a Darksiders sequel from a developer that has no major experience with the genre.

crytek will survive a long time at the rate they are going/what they are doing. it is a good idea to diversify, but (expecially in gaming) its not nessesary and it can be very risky (expecially in gaming). shooters are big money, and their engine is one of the best on consoles.

OMG! An old tweet from the lead game designer for Darksiders said Darksiders III was in development with FOUR PLAYER CO-OP!!! Now I'm really sad.

I really hope someone awesome will buy the IP in May.

Yes, I think they are perfect for the job. CryTek USA is ex Vigil and lead by the creator of Darksiders, Davis.

Yes we know, that is the whole point of the thread and CryTek USA. CryTek didn't buy out Vigil and the IP, instead waited for them to be fired and hired them to reform as CryTek USA, to do a project likely the same rinse and repeat boredom of FPS.

A question to those who have played darksiders 1 and 2.
I just noticed I have them in my steam.
Should I play them or just leave them alone since the story probably won't be finished?

I haven't finished Darksiders 2 yet, but Darksiders 1 was awesome. And what I've played of Darksiders 2, it's even more awesome. So... if you don't want to play something awesome and then something else even more awesome, then leave it in your steam library untouched.

4 player co-op of the 4 horsemen with god of war style combat? I hope a great studio buys the IP.
