lol....insane...

How do you kill that which has no life?
-
Wow. I pity the guy.
Funny, I came to this conclusion about 6 months after it came out. -

Was there ever a point to playing WoW?
I may be part of a strange group of people that don't participate any activity without a resolution but.... -
I doubt this was accomplished by one person. But grats to him, if it was.
-
Well, he's certainly dedicated, though I wonder when the last time he went outside was.
-
As one of the post above stated............was there ever a reason to "START" playing WOW ?
None that I can think of ! -
It was fun at first. Leveling up. But the endgame killed me. It was raid after raid after raid. And they dumbed down the PVP servers by introducing the Battlegrounds. So I couldn't just roam the country side pillaging and raping lowbies. I wanted to stab myself.
The last 3 months of my gameplay consisted of keeping track of DKP for my guild and Multi boxing for friends. This was back when NO ONE multi boxed! -
So does that mean that there will be a huge amount of labor coming into the workforce now that millions of people will have lives again?
I don't think our economy is prepared for that. You better keep playing =P -
If the point of playing a game is only to max out every number, then its a colossal waste of time.
If the point of a game is to have fun and achieve in game by making friends and meeting people from all walks of life, then the game is more than a game and the in-game numbers and achievements are nothing more than carrots in front of you.
The destination in such a game SHOULD be connecting with other people with a nice diversion along the way.
Note, that life itself may indeed have the same purpose...
I can't be this positive about WoW though...
The vast majority of people I met in game really should never leave it and are better off never venturing into the real world. (for their own good) -

-
That's pretty intense..by intense I mean sad, since some of those achievements are actually completely retarded to get
-
I wonder if Blizzard will gift him the sword of the thousand truths.
-
Most people play WoW because it's social and play with real life friends.
Personally, I hate WoW, and to this day never understood its success. But kudos to Blizzard for milking the ethereal digital cow to its impending doom.
This guy's skin is probably transparent because it hasn't seen the light of day for years. -
So what's the point of this?
I mean, ok some guy basically beats everything there is to do in a game; big deal. Lots of people have beaten games thick and thin, acquired every item and explored every bit of a map(it's usually pretty common in lots of RPG games actually).
Must be cause it's WoW or something...
Edit: Actually, it must be because it's WoW since I remember that other thread a few months back about that guy on WoW who had 36 accounts. -
Best. Line. Ever.

All I can say is:
Just peeking at some of those achievements many of them look like 1 time only events and some of them with limited capacity or windows of opportunity. -
I am quite sure that most of us have had a hobby which has made us exhibit at least a few symptoms of an addiction every now and then. Is that wrong? Perhaps, but as long as it's not gambling, smoking, doing drugs or alcoholism, I won't front too much on it myself, especially as I have no insight into what those people are doing when they are not enjoying their hobby.
As for me?
I'd rather be enjoying a game than complaining about others enjoying themselves in a way I can't or don't want to understand -
So, does he achieve nirvana or something?

and maybe an in game shrine so female night elves can dance in there underwear while idling in his honor. -
Well I got into WOW because all my friends played, nothing hardcore but we would take weekends every once and a while and play pretty hardcore. Time went on and the game started showing less and less innovation. It became all about "how fast can I get to 70, or 80 so I can raid".
Then ofcourse raid was filled with a bunch of screaming 12 year olds, or just generally annoying people fighting amongst each other about which strategy was right and who deserves what loot.
Final nail in the coffin for me was 2 things. Most of my friends moved on, and I don't find WOW as much fun without people I know IRL. Second they added the need to grind heroics to get gear good enough to raid.
Stop playing about 2 months ago, no intention on going back.
But for the guy who "beat" WOW, knowing as much as I know about the game. He must have had help, or literally spend 18 hours a day playing! So I think blizzard should award his character the one time title of "40 year old virgin" -
it was bound to happen eventually
-
There goes the neighborhood.
Glad I never played WoW, otherwise I'd be like "!"
-
-
Bet he'll go for a time attack to 100% now
-
The only reason it's a big deal is because of the time it takes really. Nobody really complains when someone achieves everything on say Dragon Age or Mass Effect because the time it takes isn't as all-consuming as it would be for an MMO of WoW's size.
Meh, if the guy had fun doing all of it, good for him I suppose. -
-
Nonetheless, I'm not saying it's not in one way or another something noteworthy; I see the big deal of him doing it, but I just don't see the big deal of us talking about it(not that most of us are actually discussing it so much as commenting about it...). -
You may have "tried it" but you've never really played or gotten into it. You cant comprehend the time and effort he put in to that. I could never do it, nor would I, but good going to him. Those that have really played WoW recognize the effort here.
If you don't see a reason to talk about it here...don't. It's like going to a movie, and sitting throughout the entire movie complaining you don't want to be there. -
You're right that I don't understand the amount of effort taken into but really nobody really knows except him though right? Yes, WoW players can have an understanding, but they won't get the true effort, time and everything put into it unless they've gone through it, which arguably lots of WoW players might not have interest in.
Look guys, I'm not even contesting the validity of the guy's actions; I'm contesting putting him under a magnifying glass and watching him and commenting like he's a [freak] show(because honestly that's what half of everyone here is treating him as).
I'm not going to sit here and watch others antagonize a guy who perhaps simply did something he considered a hobby/passion without at least trying to understand it... Tell me exactly how my posts are less constructive than the guy who says "OMG that's sad"(no offense meant to anyone who may have posted something like this) other than lacking perhaps a touch of humor?
I know I'm taking this too seriously, but it's a question of moral principle even if everyone is kidding(which I can tell a large portion of them are). -
Forever Melody, I don't think you're saying anything wrong. I get what you're saying. For me, I don't know who this guy is but WoW can be the butt of many "nerd or no life" jokes so it's probably why this man is easy target to have "beaten" wow haha.
Anyway, grats to the man, he'll have the full achievements probably only for a week or two longer since a new patch is dropping and with what I assume are some new achievements =) -
So how much did this guy pay Blizzard for this achievement? Was it with one account, or multiple? Even if one account from day 1 (Nov. 2004) he spent at least $900. But most likely had multiple accounts over the years, so likely thousands of dollars.
People are saying to commend this guy for an achivement in some artificial world. With that same logic, isn't that like commending someone for adding the most 1's together on a calculator for five years? Who cares. Good for him for making that his life. But I don't see how this is possible with just himself either. -
-
This thread has taken a stange turn.
-
Gee, I was just kidding bout the 40 year old virgin bit
Got all serious all of the sudden. Having played since the beta I can say it's impressive. Good friend of mine worked for months to get the "insane" title achievement. Farmed day and night for reputation with different factions. So ya, he was the most dedicated person I know. First on the server after expansion to max out inscription. Tons of gold, but I told him about this and all he could say was... "wow!" -
-
I think Blizzard should give him some kind of recognition maybe a medal, something valuable and a hall of fame somewhere as the first person who did it all.
-
-
They will probably name a character after him or something in their next expansion...

For those of us who play (I've been playing since December '04), it is major, but when they added in the achievement system I thought it was, well, stupid and a waste of time. I don't like or care about achievements. I play for fun, but if I happen to score an achievement, I go, "oh.....neat," and move on.
Achievements are Blizzard's ultimate timesink. -
