Now that Deus Ex: Human Revolution is out of the way, Eidos Montreal may have shifted their focus on an all time classic franchise: Thief.
Their next installment will be Thief 4 and so far we only have an extremly brief homepage with a big "Thi4f" (cheesy, I know) full frontal and an official forum.
We also seem to have an unconfirmed screenshot which was apparently leaked for some time now.

The series belongs to my favourites list and although Deadly Shadows was not received as well by the critics as the first two, I enjoyed the mix between third person and the classic 1st person which described the previous games.

It has been 7 years now from the last game and I think the excitement is building up for a new one.
I want to know what is your take on the series as well as your expectations on the next game. The screenshot shows a 3rd person perspective and I'm guessing that the game will be an fps action rpg much like deus ex (same engine?) with a more complex cover based system.

Yeah I was kind of sad they chose to continue on Garret's storyline. It would have been cool to see the world from a different point a view. I think it will be fun but not near as amazing as the first 3.

I've enjoyed all Thief series including all the expansion since 1998 or 1999 when Dark Project came out. Deadly Shadows was the best with the implementation of the 3rd person view.

Deadly Shadows not appealing to critics? ...Sample, Star Craft 2 was so appealing to critics, ...BUT not for me, it was a waste of $56 dollars. Even SC1 back in 1998.

Thief appealed to me. Thief is for adult gamers and for RPG fans. I totally no longer relly on reviews..

You know that they are going to retain the voice character of Garrett, he has the best voice. You know they'll have those Very precious cut scenes after every mission. These are some of the elements that profoundly struck us Thief fanatics.

Every body has different tastes in games. I really loved the graphics on Deadly Shadows too. Now we'll be able to play Thief 4 at 1080p widescreen.

Really no use speculating. Developers will always disappoint you if you think about it too much. They will emphasize features for the masses and the de-emphasize the features that hardcore fans will be interested in. But provide just enough to satisfy the hardcore so they won't complain at release.

This is what I found on Wikipedia:

I'm wondering why they call it a reboot? I know it is seven years, but the community expects a sequel.

    %#(*!@%($!@*%&*#$^@&

    THAT SPELLS "THIAF", NIMRODS

    Alternatively, Thifourf.

I was thinking of the same thing. Deus EX mechanics + some special stealth elements would fit the game perfectly. :D

I find stealth in Deus Ex not very stealthy and seriously lacking.

So if they make a Thief game, I really hope they do a better job.

What do I think of awesome stealth without resorting to guns and awesome take downs? Nothing beats Batman Arkham Asylum for me so far. Perfect combination of stealth, action and by far the easiest controls. I find Deus Ex controls bit cumbersome.
