I have been thinking about making a custom liquid cooling solution for my CPU and GPU on my sager np8170. I want to find some small copper flexible pipe and solder 1-2 loops onto my copper heatsink, I could then have a inlet and outlet port on the back of the computer with a couple of quick connectors that could be easily disconnected when I need to be mobile. I want to be able to have an extreme overclock profile when I am at home and then down-clock to the normal clocks when I am out and about.

Here is a video of a guy who did this with a dell. I see no reason not to try as it could be a really fun project and a practical way to keep the computer running cool while gaining the maximum overclocking performance when at home.

I know it would be a lot of work, but I really think I am onto something here! Please tell me what you guys think and any ideas you might have. I want to try this sometime before the end of the summer, and when/if I do, ill keep you updated.

If you will have fun doing this project, then go for it!

I would never even attempt it myself, as I'd be afraid of messing up my mobo somehow, but it sounds like you have some experience with this sort of thing.

there was a thread about this in the sager-clevo sub forum. i suggest having the outlets come out the back of the machine, instead of the bottom, and using a regular radiator pump and resevoir instead of the all in one thing that he has. i suggest you make it so that it has hose connectors mounted to the chassis of the laptop and also on the tube that travels out, so that you can drain the pipes and then plug them up when you are out and about. personally i think this is a great project but i would just use the money towards either a 7970m or a 680m if it were me. but i support you 100% and ask me for any help you need, i love cooling mods :).

Yeah, I am getting a 680m next week.

I am planning on putting the inlet and outlet ports in the BACK of the computer, and using a full sized radiator and pump. The CPU looks to be the easiest to access, so I will most likely try it with that first, then move on to the video card if it works well.

If anyone knows what is the best solder for conducting heat please let me know. My copper pipe will be soldered directly to the existing heat sink. (I heard silver solder is the best)

Yeah, please keep us informed. I will be following this to see how it goes. I would love to try this at a later date. Good luck, and I think it is a great idea.
    Thanks!!!

this is the wrong sub forum. also you have a great topic about notebook watercooling in the correct section that gives solutions to all those questions.
