Don't get Guild Wars now since you would be too behind other people to get into the game quickly unless you have like 100+ hours to invest in the game just to get some characters up and get through lots of the campaign missions.

Even after that, it would be really hard for your to get into PvP, which is IMO the reason why Guild Wars is awesome after you've done everything. The PvP is really fun but elitist so its really hard to get into its high levels.

Well, judging from the trailer they just came out with, GW2 is going to look pretty sweet, AKA graphic intensive, so you'll need a dedicated graphics card for sure.

But going back to your original post, plenty of people still play GW. I just got back into it (been playing ever since release). Having the stand alone expansions does add a whole new depth, but it's not necessary. If you have the money to blow, then you'll have tons of fun.

    GW2 only 2011 I guess.. =/

If you buy the Faction or Nightfall campaign, I believe you will have lots of fun with it... But for PVP you will mostly of the time need all 3 expansions... But one thing to note, GW is not a grinding game, you just need to be good at the game, Real player skills... So, if you can learn things fast, its a good game for you, otherwise try WoW...
