I'm thinking of buying a Thinkpad R60 with a Radeon X1300. It will be used mostly for schoolwork, but I was wondering how well it would run a few games.

    1. World of Warcraft
    2. Guild Wars
    3. Civilization 4

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have an X1300 myself, here are some games and resolution/detail I play at

    FEAR - 1024x600, Low detail
    Half Life 2 - 1280x800 Medium Detail
Star Wars Empire at War - 1280x800 Medium Detail
    Civ 4 - 1280x800 Medium
Railroad Tycoon 3- 1280x800 Medium (can play at higher detail...but why bother!)
    Call Of Duty 2 - 1024x600 DX7 Mode
    Sims 2 - 1280x800 Medium Detail
Lego Star Wars 2 - 1280x800 All on but no Anti-Aliasing

Those games you have mentioned will run fine on the X1300. I use my for gaming mainly, but I am no longer a graphics nut so I don't mind playing at lower resolution/detail. Way I see it, a good game is a good game regardless of how many shader effects you can fill a scene with.

I know it will play WoW, as my little bro palyed it on an old agp card that scored 800 3dmark05; and that was with the settings at max. I think WoW should play nice on anything from a 200m or more, and even on gma950 with med settings, but dont quote me on that.

It'll run all those games on high settings no problems. You'll only truely start encountering problems with the X1300 when playing newer titles, particular FPS titles.

Thanks for all the replies. However I did forget to mention that it only comes with 64mb of video memory. Will that be a huge problem?

I do not think that only 64MB of VRAM will be a problem for those games, but more would be nice for future-proofing. 64MB won't cut it for the latest & greatest. What is the card advertised as, just 64MB?

Mine is 64mb, I'm pretty sure it is anyway. So those results I posted will be the same for your performance too I would imagine ( unless you get a 100mhz processor.....unlikely!)

It is advertised as only 64mb video memory.

I can save $50 by going down to the GMA 950, would it be a huge performance hit? Could it still play all of those games I mentioned? Thanks

You might have problems playing those games with a GMA950. The $50 is a worthwhile investment.

Don't get a GMA 950. The extra $50 is more than worth it. The difference between my old GMA900 laptop and this one is night and day.

I think I'll get the X1300. Thanks for all your help.
