    I am considering buying a lap top ( in New Zealand), however i only wish to spend up to $1600 dollars. I have noticed that most lap tops here have the go 6150 gfx card, even lap tops that cost $3000 :confused:

    So anyways, i am considering a lap top with these specs and my question is has anyone tried the new c&c3 demo on this graphics card or something similar. I only want the game to run on low-med graphics, but i want it to be smooth. Note that i will also look at upgrading the ram to 2 gb

    Here are the specs

    Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor TL-50 (1.6GHz, 512KB L2 cache)
    Memory: 512MB DDR2 667 (1 slot) upgradeable to 2GB
    Hard Drive: 80GB (5400rpm)
    Optical Drive: Dual layer DVD writer
    Display: 15.4" WXGA + Brightview Widescreen
    Video: Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 with up to 128MB shared Mmory
    Audio: Built-in Altec Lansing stereo speakers
    Networking: Integrated 10⁄100 Ethernet LAN
    Modem: Integrated high speed 56K modem.
    WiFi: 802.11a⁄b⁄g
    Media reader: Integrated 5-in-1 digital memory reader slot (xD, SD, MMC, Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO)
    I⁄O: 3 x USB 2.0, VGA, RJ-11 ⁄ Modem, RJ-45 ⁄ Ethernet, Headphone jack and external Microphone, S-Video Output, AC Adaptor
    Battery: Lithium Ion, 6 Cell

    If you upgrade to 2GB of RAM, then it most certainly should run at medium-low settings (with no AF/AA) at the native resolution. The Go6150, though hardly a beast of a card, is no slouch - it's slightly ahead of the x200M, which tore through Generals at 1280x768, full settings.

    You might want to consider the 12-cell if portability is a concern, as well. For $50, it's a massive upgrade. A slightly faster processor (the TL-56 is a good balance) couldn't hurt either, for gaming performance. Dropping the nearly-useless a-band WiFi if you're not getting Bluetooth, and the Brighview unless you'll be doing a lot of video-watching in low-light environments, is a good way to save some change (assuming that's still an option over there).

    Also i have 2 other lap tops to consider, one has this video :ATI Radeon X1300 with 256MB Hypermemory , and the other has a : Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950™

    which is best out of these 3:
    -Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 with up to 128MB shared Mmory
    -Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950™
    -ATI Radeon X1300 with 256MB Hypermemory

    and will any play c&c3 tiberian wars on low- med graphics??

    Or would something like this be better to get...

    High end inspiron 6400
    Intel core 2 Core 2 duo centrino
    Conditions as new - no scratches, blemishes, of any kind.
    Crystal clear 15.4" 1200 x 800 widescreen resolution, includes media direct button and software to allow media access without boooting up windows.
    has firewire, usb, etc.
    Integrated wireless a/b/g.

    its off a site like ebay (only in New Zealand), so the guy doesnt specify more details about the computer.. he only says its a high end dell so i got no idea what gfx chip it would have..but im guessing its one of those intel 950 integrated gpu things..

    Why don't you go to Noel Leeming or something like that and pick out a laptop for around $2500-$3000 and get a decent GPU like:

    -Nvidia 7400/ATI X1400

    -ATI X1600/ Nvidia 7600

    You'll find these GPU chips in PC's like Sony, HP, NEC etc etc.
    The 6150 has a 50/50 chance of playing the game since even ATI 9250 cards aren't even supported. But I am convinced that it might play it since the GMA 900 series from Intel can handle the game on low. I'm a C&C fan as well so I know these stuff, plus I spent extra cash a few weeks back just to pre-order C&C3 Kane-edition. Here are the official C&C 3 requirements from the official site:

    OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit; 64-bit versions of Vista are not supported)

    CPU: 2.0GHz or high, or AMD equivalent

    RAM: 512 MB or more

    Disk Drive: 8x or faster DVD drive for retail SKUs, not required for digitally downloaded version

    Hard Drive: 8.0 GB or more of free space

    Video: GeForce4, ATI Radeon 8500 or greater (ATI Radeon 9200 and 9250 PCI, NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX cards not supported.)

    Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

    Network, Internet Multiplayer: 2 players (no voice support) – 56 Kbps Internet connection; 2-8 players (with voice transmission) – Broadband-class connection

    OK, I have two laptops here in my list that complies with your requirements, $1,700 IN NZ DOLLARS.

    1) Aspire 5512WLMi MCE Notebook-Product features:

    * Intel Pentium M 740 1.73GHz processor
    * 80GB 5400rpm Hardrive
    * 512MB Ram
    * DVD Dual 8x Double Layer
    * 15.4" WXGA WideScreen
    * Windows XP Media Center Edition
    * ATI X700 128MB Video Graphics & inbuilt TV tuner
    * Wireless LAN 802.11b/g
    * Fax Modem + cable
    * 4-in-1 (SD, MMC, MS, MS Pro)

    2) HP Pavilion DV6129TX Notebook-Product features:

    * Intel® CoreDuo processor T2250 (1.73GHz)
    * 100GB 5400RPM
    * 1024MB DDR2 667 (2 Dimm)
    * Super Multi 8X DVD±RW
    * 15.4" WXGA Widescreen Display
    * Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
    * NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400 with up to 256MB memory
    * ExpressCard/54 slot
    * Integrated 1.3 Megapixel webcam
    * Intel PRO/Wireless 802.11a/b/g;Bluetooth, Integrated 10/100 LAN

    Note that the HP DV6000 has better CPU's and a newer graphics card than the Acer, but it's also a bit slower that the Acer's graphic card, ATI X700. So if you want better processing power and a slower graphics card, go for the HP but if you don't care about overall system performance but you want better gaming performance, go for the Acer.

    Good luck with your choice!

    I can say it will work most definately on that first system. I have a sempron 3000 and 1 gig of ram and an x200. I have played the demo with no problems at all. It does have to be on lower settings but it can play.

    my advice would be the Aspire 5670,
    i use that myself and it runs the demo smoothly with almost all settings maxxed out!
    and it costs about 1000,- € (in holland)

    here are the specs:
    Centrino Duo (2x 1,7 Ghz)
    ATI mobility Radeon X1600
    1GB memory
    15,4 inch Crystalbright LCD (16ms) (very bright and no gh :mad:sting!!!)
    120GB SATA HD
    DVD dual layer burner
    powerful wireless adapter

    its a nice laptop with powerfull features, it even runs Suppreme commander (with dualscreen) quite smoothly!!! :cool:

    if you want more info:

    i hope this is usefull

    Rachel

    p.s.

    the review is from a version with a X1400 instead of X1600 (wich i use)

    the Aspire 5670 mentioned earlier could be a very good choice.

    For about the same price I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 6400 with
    -Dual Core 1.83Ghz processor
    -1GB Ram
    -WSXGA+ 15inch widescreen with truelife (awsome image quality but very few website can support the 1680x1050 resolution)
    80Gb HDD
    ATI X1400 256Mb video card with hypermemory
    Dual Layer 8X DVD burner
    9 cell battery

    If you're planing on gaming with your laptop, you might want to stay away from "shared memory" video card and try to go with a real video card. Higher end 6400 now propose an optional GeForce 7300 256Mb card wich is one of the biggest video card you can get in a laptop without crossing into the "hardcore gaming laptop" category.

    1Gb of RAM memory should also be a minimum.

    Kowell actually the x1400 marginally better than the 7300, Dell is wierd.

    I suggest going for the one just_follow_ati mentioned, the hp dv6000 with 7400/1gb ram/t2250. gamespot noticed the game runs poorly with only 512mb and just fine with 1024mb.
