So whenever I play BF2 my screen flickers about ever 3 seconds and I see tiny white specks appear, kinda like static. What does this mean and how can it be fixed. It is a brand new ASUS C90 bought from Gentech and it was made and advertised to be a gaming laptop and yet I get these problems. Why is this happening?

Are those specks rainbow coloured? If so it sounds like a faulty GPU. Well, at least I assume. My Wii actually started getting those dots because of a faulty GPU also. What graphics card is it anyway?

Is it on the ground only or all over the screen?
I had black polygon looking specs appear on the ground when playing BF2, all I had to do was turn terrain to Low and it solved the problem.

They appear are all over the screen, but there are not a lot of them. They come with the flickering which comes less than every two seconds.

Do the specs only appear while you are actually playing the game? Or do they appear during the login screen, server connection screen etc.

If they only appear in game, relax, it's snow. Even in the desert it snows. Not terribly noticeable but it's there.

Yes they appear while I am playing the game only. With my old computer I had an overclocking program and the tutorial said that when I begin to see artifacts that my graphics card is overheating. Are these not artifacts?

the specs only seem to appear with BF2. I have just played HL 2 and UT3 and all I got is the flickering of the screen. No specks. I have heard this is a refreshed rate (mine is 60 Hz) issue, but once again, this is my first real laptop, so I am new to this.

It could be "snow artifact", which occurs when your GPU's memory is OC'd far too high.

Are you OC'ing your GPU at all?

I updated to the latest driver (169.09) and it made every game run at a MUCH slower frame rate aka unplayable now.. I am right now uninstalling the drivers completely and starting from scratch, because I have this feeling that not uninstalling o

Try 169.04, from what I'm seeing, it's far more stable than 169.09...

Or you can try 169.21, which apparently offers an improvement from 169.04/09 drivers.

hahaha ACTUALLY i just did a google search and apparently 169.25 came out on 11th. Why were these not appearing in the list I was looking at? Doesn't matter.

My last test run of BF2 showed that the flickering and dots were gone completely. But I am still worried...if they were from overheating, could it be possible I just now can't SEE the effects of it overheating?

    I guess I'm gonna try .25

Yep, 169.25 is out--but at the moment it's Vista only.

If you have Vista, go for it ;). I'm using XP... so no .25 for moi :p.

Fuzzy screen artifacts...at least in my experience...always have to do with an overheating and malfunctioning GPU.

well the good news is that the flickering and the specks are gone, but the bad news is that the more graphically intensive games (BF2, UT3) have lower Frame rates. With an earlier driver version (whichever one came out on 4/20/07) the games ran perfectly, but with the glitches.

    NOW WTF is up?
