    hi all,

I'm trying to play CoD 5 on my desktop but its too slow compared to CoD 4 and I just quit it cuz it feels unplayable (on the same settings of CoD 4).

    My computer:

    Desktop, WinXP
    P4 3.2 Ghz
    4 Gb Ram
GeForce 8800 (GS ? not sure, i think either 512mb or 1gb, cant remember)
    plenty of hard drive space.

The resolution is set on 1072*769 the rest of the settings are on default.
So what can I do in game to improve the play? (like what ingame settings should i use? other than reducing the resolution).

thanks, but the hardware has nothing to do with my problem. i'm asking about the game settings. i'm sure people know what ingame settings i should change to make the game more playable.

you have pretty powerful video card and old processor. So I'm guessing that the game is coded nicely to use cpu power as well and not only gpu power. What you can do is lower the detail level and that's it. The resolution seems fine. Good luck.

you should run a FPS counter software like FRAPS or Xfire and run it on both your laptop and your desktop so you can compare the 2. Then once you get an idea of how many FPS you are getting on your laptop then you can play with the settings on your desktop and come to a compromise.

But i have to agree, your cpu is kinda slacking it but im not sure how much it is holding you back.

The biggest FPS tax comes from Shadows, AA, and resolution so try playing with these.

P.s if your playing single player you can use the games own FPS counter by opening up the console and typing /cg_drawfps 1 to turn it off type /cg_drawfps 0 but this will ONLY work in the single player.
