Any tips for what games to buy?
COD Ghost and Battlefield 4 will probably be high on most peoples list.
Is there any other must have games?
I enjoy COD 4 Modern warfare, in the reviews it is voted one of the best COD games, if not the best.

I second on the new Tomb Raider, definitely on the top of my list for this year.
This should inform you on what to play this year: Top 10 BEST Games of 2013! - YouTube
And, stay away from these please: Top 10 WORST Games of 2013! - YouTube
These are mostly FPS games (big surprise lol, with the amount we have of them already), so if you are looking for RPG's or fighters I can name a few if you wish, like the Gothic or Elder Scrolls series, The Last Remnant, Path of Exile, and many more. Another two are excellent remakes or oldies: Rise of the Triad, and Shadow Warrior (which I highly recommend). I am also playing Doom 3: BFG Edition right now and it is a pretty awesome game.
For online these are a must: Chivalry, Killing Floor, Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2, Orcs Must Die 2, Natural Selection 2, Left 4 Dead 2.
And before I forget, the absolute best single player modern war fps I have ever played, it is a whole new take on war that no game has done so perfectly before: Spec Ops: The Line. -
agree, tomb raider. also far cry 3 is great for single player, any of the batman games city, asylum, origins, battlefield 2 and 3 and crysis 3.
-
I just played Half Life 2. Awesome game. Had to play Episode 1 and 2 after that. Yeah I know, I`m late
Now I`m playing Borderlands 2 and its also awesome. Ton of weapons, great humour. -
first real game i ever played and top notch it was as well.
OP dont buy the individual games but get the orange box which has 5 games in it. £14.99 on steam at the moment but in their sales its gone down to £4.99 before. -
fatboyslimerr Alienware M15x Fanatic
Spec Ops: The Line has a great premise but fails to delivery due to weak gameplay mechanics.
Tomb Raider and FC3 are both good but Assassins creeds IV: BF is bloody excellent if you like grappling enemies with a rope dart and hanging them from the mast of their own ship, which you bordered from your own awesome uber modded pirate ship. Need I say more?

-
Angry Joe show as some good tips:
Spec Ops: The Line, sounds good.It gets good reviews
Tomb Raider: I'm not sure, I have played the old one and never really liked them.
Far Cry 3: I played on PS3, didn't like it.
Assassins creeds IV BF: not sure, I will look into it more.
Ride to Hell: I will stay well away from that.
Any thoughts on ARMA III ?
I downloaded the Arma 2 demo and diidn't think much of it. -
dumitrumitu24 Notebook Evangelist
try new tomb raider..i was also suspicious cause of the old tomb raider games..but these new it gives you a great feeling when you play it
-
..games I enjoyed the most last year:
Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider. Great writing. Dishonored (this is Thief, the way you wished or maybe imagined Thief would actually be like when it came out. It's a really good game, and reviewers dropped the ball on this completely, liking it for all the wrong reasons). And Devil May Cry 5. Very good game, that you should have played through at least once (like Mirror's Edge). Spec Ops: The Line was an intelligent and well done game, imo. Worth playing.
Primordia - adventure game. Very good writing, very good puzzles.
Retrograde - shootemup/rhythm game. In reverse. Literally in reverse. Hilarious.
Coming out soon that might be worth something: Transistor (by Supergiant Games). Broken Age (Double Fine - first act is out if you want to play that right now).
Other than that.. Disappointing EA Game 29, UBISOFT Re-roll Number 15. Not sure what's coming out that might be worth buying when it comes to that.. -
I never liked the old Tomb Raiders, but this new one really is a reboot, it's the refresh the series really needed.
About ARMA III, it is an awesome game, one of the greatest online experiences that I've ever had. The only reason that I don't recommend it is that the game is not for everyone, it has such a steep learning curve. Once you get past the learning curve, the game isn't run and gun like many other shooters, you my have to travel for 30min-1hr before you even see your first enemy, and even then you cannot just kill on sight, you have to plan out the assault with your squad so that you don't make all that travel go to waste by dying. However, that is what makes the game so fun to play, especially if you play with the right squad, the game is so engaging and is a joy to play, but again, not everyone will think the same.
And damn, completely forgot about Metal Gear Rising, AC4: BF, and DMC - I haven't playd the 1st two but DMC is an awesome fighter. -

you should try guys assetto corsa. Its in early stages still but its a really good simulation.every two weeks they make a update for it.Its very similar to project cars just project cars looks a bit better. No opponents implemented still
-
I dunno. Tomb Raider is a decent action game, but it steps away from what it really is, an action/adventure game. It focuses on killing people as opposed to, well, raiding tombs and puzzle solving and adventure.
-
So ARMA III is not a game to play only 15 minutes a day for example?
What about Metro Last Light?
-
dumitrumitu24 Notebook Evangelist
metro is great..its devided in small chapters..about 40 chapters..its really demanding..you need to turn off phsyx and tesselation off to get a playable framerate..even in some scenes(mostly animations) you will get less than 15fps..i have a similar notebook so you will get similar performance..in the begining some scenes are heavy but later on with same settings it feels more fluently
-
I'll mention a couple i havent seen posted here yet:
Kerbal Space Program...Absolutely love it, if you are in the mood for something other than a shooter/action game, can't recommend this enough. Recent update added a lot of new gameplay as well.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow... enjoying this one more than I thought I would, button mashing good time! -
Any Racing game tips?
Bike racing games i've tried are rubbish, there must be some good car racing though? -
dumitrumitu24 Notebook Evangelist
assetto corsa is a racing simulation and grid 2 is also a good game.I dont like NFS since underground 2
-
You can also buy the older PS2 Gran Tourismo games and run an emulator with them in high res, I really wish that they would bring this series to pc. -
My favorite NFS is Porsche Unleashed. I wish they would remake that one.
-
Crazy Joe didn't like Spec Ops : The Line very much.
I have just tried the demo, very happy with it.
Assetto Corsa, is it a full working version or still early access?
I read there is no multiplayer. -
The first time I played Tomb Raider, I was on the edge of my seat in the first mission. It's a great game. I love Battlefield, too. DayZ (not the mod) is also fun, if you've got some friends to play with. It can easily turn into an all-day survival game. Pretty much any major title game is fun... Buy them all!
-
dumitrumitu24 Notebook Evangelist
assetto corsa is early access but its updated every 2 weeks with new cars, tracks and features..so far it has i think about 15 cars..some famous tracks like silverstone, mugello, imola etc
-
As anyone got Grid 2 all in DLC pack or any DLC packs?
Are they worth getting?
I'm torn between Grid 2, Assetto Corsa and NFS Rivals. -
GRID 2 is going to be my vote out of those choices, fun game; if I didn't already own it I'd buy the complete pack just released.
-
Are there any good games without all the people killing? I just find that unsettling.
-
Portal are near the top of my list. Bioshock infinite might be my current favorite though.
-
To sum it all up, the game is locked at 30fps, and no matter what pc you have at high speeds the fps drops ways below that. If you try to raise the fps limit to something like 60, all it does is make the game run twice as fast, making it unplayable. The game has constant pop-up videos that you cannot exit, and there is no steering wheel support. If you are going to buy this game, just buy NFS: Hot Pursuit (2010) and NFS: Most Wanted (2013) - both of those games do what NFS Rivals does, but so much better.
Grid 2 is really good, Assetto Corsa looks promising but it's in Early Access so I can't recommend it as of yet.
As for non-killing games, Portal 1 & 2 are excellent. With Portal 2 you pretty much have a game that never ends, there are so many community made maps on the Steam Workshop to keep you busy.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
killkenny1 and J D A like this.
-
Thanks for the Portal 2 tip, it look very intetesting.
That will defenatly be going on my list of games to buy.
I came across Split Second while looking for racing games, any thoughts? -
If you're looking for something funny and cheap that runs on any system, the first NFS: Underground or maybe Carbon would be an idea. At least then you can drive without the funky arcade shopping cart physics they've added lately..
Or.. buy a steering wheel, a ps3 and gt6? It's the best there is, really. Then you could play WipeoutHD as well. Second best game ever made. And Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool has gone out of business, so that's the last real Wipeout game that will be made.
But more non-horde-killing games -- have you played Mirror's Edge? FPS-parkour in the same engine as Battlefield 3. Rhianna Pratchett wrote the script (same who wrote the script for the Tomb Raider reboot). Buy that, and skip the upcoming EA-made sequel.
Dishonored as well is a pretty good game if you dislike slaughtering people. Because it awards you (not just at the scorecard) for choosing and completing a non-lethal stealth path. It lets you figure out diplomatic solutions and more of the backstory if you wish. And if it goads you into killing someone, it tends to be convincing. Several of the missions in Dishonored are extremely well written in the sense that you can explore find different approaches to resolve the missions, instead of being led down a path. For good or bad. But it's possible to run through the entire game and not actually murder or assassinate anyone. And you can do it without fighting against the game - that's how well it's made.
Portal 2 was fun. But ultimately it's a timewaster, frankly. It's cute, but it's the first game stretched out to the length of a full game. Without adding more content to fill the gaps. I've no idea how it's become so popular.
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet - is kind of a classic. If it wasn't for how you need to create a Microsoft Gaming account to just play the game, even offline, I would have no hesitation to recommend it. It's an intelligent puzzle-adventure with great use of scalable vector-sheets for graphics (letting the game zoom in and out without losing detail, etc), with enough variation to not bore you to tears between each plot-line, etc. Very little, if any, killing. Lots of maneuvering, avoidance, mining, and strategic puzzles.
Sword & Sworcery could be an idea. Everyone should have played that once. Available on Android, IOs and PC. But it's a touch-screen adventure game. Plays best that way.
Did I mention Primordia? Independent studio, really well done point and click adventure game. Fantastic, non-cutsy art-style. Guy who wrote the story and the script (as well as most of the puzzles) really knows what he's doing. Cool guy, chats with random fans about the plot and games, that sort of thing. ..In case you're wondering, or watched the trailer for Primordia - the main character's voice is done by the same person who did Rufus in Bastion. He'll also voice the Sword in Supergiant games' upcoming game Transistor.
I suppose I could mention the.. grammatically challenged local project called "Among the Sleep". Baby Nightmare Simulation. I dare you to play it. It's freaky and scary, but you'll still want to play more (unlike for example the Amnesia series, that you just stop playing eventually..). Beta is out, release not too far off, I think.
Also, Project Eternity by Obsidian, and the Planescape Torment sidetrack Tides of Numenera are still allowing you to add yourself as a backer, I think. Not sure when it'll release. But if you haven't played Planescape Torment yet, that could be a good pick -- even if it does have combat. Since the writing in that game may easily be one of the best attempts at moderately paced and passive interactive story-telling there is. -
So I have bought Spec Ops: The Line on ebay for 6.90 Euro. The key worked no problem and now I am getting stuck into it.

King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
If you want some mindless fps carnage with good graphics and good humour get Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon. Playing it atm and it is pretty fun!

Saints Row 3 and 4 are they any good, are they on par with GTA or are they just over the top?
The youtube reviews make it look good fun,but for how long? -
Still, the mini-games are pretty awesome. Septic Avenger is pretty memorable -
dumitrumitu24 Notebook Evangelist
gta is gta and has a great story line..saints row is just a bad copy of gta but its one of best copyies of gta..Personally i like just cause 2 more than saints row serial..Just cause 2 is from 2010 but the graphic puts to shame even some modern AAA games.Sleeping dogs is also better than saints row for me

Hey guys, I'm loving Assassins Cread III, the game play, graphics, and plot line etc.... maybe a bit more "Cinamatics" that I'd like but certainly better than some of the other games I've recently tried like XCOM...
Any suggestions on other games that I can try that fit that style? I loved Half Life 2 a lot, games that let you wonder about and interact with the environment a high degree of freedom. -
-
There is a free demo of Sleeping Dogs on steam that I have tried and like, it is definitely on my list for games to buy in the near future.
-
-
Dishonored and Far Cry 3 as well will please you greatly in that respect I think. With the interactive story-telling that avoids cut-scenes, but uses game-time sequences instead.
If you own a console, don't forget to pick up a game called Resonance of Fate. Some of the best story-telling Japanese developers have offered in the last few years. But the release was hampered a bit by Sega's wish to sell Tennis games, along with the release date put on top of Final Fantasy 13.. Talk about replay of Xenogears and FF8.. -
Well, I was enjoying assassins creed 3 until I became a little Indian boy now playing hide and go seek. Sheesh.

Microsoft Halo pC
that game was incredible, multiplayer only a lot of heated battles talks and doses lol. -
I recommend reading threads for good deals on games. When you find a game that is on a great sale and gets your interest, buy it and play it. Don't worry about reviews etc. Just find games, find great deals, buy em and play em.
