Hi All, some of you that play Titanfall will have noticed Update 8 came out today (or maybe yesterday), and for me and a few others it seems to be causing massive memory leaks and then associated reductions in fps during gameplay - normally after 3 or 4 matches on the hop. As each new match starts RAM usage creeps up another step. The most usage I've seen so far on my 16GB RAM system is about 5.8GB just for the Titanfall process! Find attached a pic of the RAM usage I've seen. How have you found update 8, is it causing you memory leaks & slow downs?

Cool, good idea. You probably won't notice excessive RAM usage & slow downs after just one match - it's been consistently after 3 or 4 matches that the slowdowns & memory usage become critical. It seems to increase memory usage at the loading point of each new match - almost like it's not dumping it's previous information from the last match - which is why it only happens after a number of completed matches. (That's my theory anyway!). I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it, and if it's a problem affecting everyone.

It's a good game! This update has broken it quite badly for me though, means I have to restart the game after 3 or 4 matches because I get noticeable slow downs - it's normally 60-78fps for me, but when the memory leaks kick in now I'm getting below 60fps on the maps where I'd be sat pretty much at 78fps before (78Hz screen).

Here's an update, this is a pic just to show more clearly what's happening with this memory leak:

    Memory Leak Titanfall.jpg

The slowdowns are happening on the 4th consecutive game. As you can see from the pic you can see 4 distinct step ups of memory increase, each one of those is at the start of a new match (I can capture such a long length of time in Task Manager because I've put it at the slowest update rate - updates the graph once every 4 seconds only). Definitely something wrong with the game after Update #8! (I even tried enabling the page file - had it disabled before - to see if an enabled page file would help: it didn't help.)

Yeah it looks like they don't purge whatever is stored in RAM from the last round.

One more update, just played 3 rounds of Titanfall, and this has been the worst memory leak of all of them - on the 3rd game fps loss was seen, normally previously just seen on the 4th consecutive game. Here's the pic where you can see the huge RAM usage increase during the 3rd game (it's the last 'step'):

Titanfall Worst Memory Leak so far.jpg

This effectively makes the game unplayable since Patch #8, if it becomes unplayable on the 3rd game - it means you only get one decent match, because the 1st match you join half way through, and then the 3rd match you get the slow downs due to the memory leak. This definitely needs to fixed! I've googled for other people having this issue, and I've seen a couple of posts on reddit, as well as on linustechtips. Please post in this forum if you're also having the same system RAM memory leak related slow downs. Cheers.

EDIT: tried using a previous NVidia driver to see if that might help (344.11), that didn't help either, still the same memory leaks & slow downs, back on the latest 344.48 now.

Possibly my last update on this issue:

I've found that by turning down Textures from Insane to High removes the effect of the memory leak, and no fps loss is seen after consecutive matches - lowering to Very High caused the memory leak issues again. This is still a fault with Update #8 though, because prior to this update I could run Insane textures with no fps loss. Update #8 has broken Very High and Insane texture settings for this game, causing this memory leak that was previously explained. This could be a temporary fix for anyone experiencing these issues - I still hope they'll fix this soon though - I don't find it acceptable to have to reduce settings to fix bugs in game updates.

EDIT (6th Nov): previously I had thought that reducing texture size to High cured all memory leak related fps loss, but after running it for a few days I can see that it still doesn't perform as well at High Textures post Update #8 versus when running on Insane Textures pre Update #8. So even reducing Textures from Insane to High isn't even a 'fix', it just mitigates the memory leak related slow downs a little to make it tolerable. I hope they fix this soon, I want to go back to the smooth fps experience of pre Update #8 and regain the ability to run it at Insane Textures again.

Still no fix for this 3 months on! I've posted on the Respawn forums about this (made a thread about it), and it's received thousands of views, as well as 10's of responses, so Respawn do know about this issue and it effects lots of users. Can't believe they've not fixed it yet! Come on Respawn, sort it out, people still want to play this game - even more if it was fixed!

On the one hand, they did update it a bunch post launch. On the other hand, this is a fairly crippling issue. Not one I've noticed myself but still, I stopped playing a while back and reinstalling the game takes forever... Stupid lack of audio compression.

Yes, it is a massive game to download 63GB of disk space with DLC!

Yeah, and I have the season pass too. It's like a whole afternoon of downloading with my crappy internet. It's actually the only physical PC game that I own - quicker to install the 4 DVDs than to download it...

Haha, it is a good game, I like the mechanics of it, and the competitiveness! Easy to get a game on there, full lobbies, at least for Attrition Mode, which is the one I play.

Not really. Terrible PC port, more than half of the players who could game with 60fps in the release candidate build chosen for stability beta couldn't get 60 on launch, and thus couldn't play it, as aiming is tied to your FPS, and it was months before it got to HALF the optimization it was there. Then SLI took forever to be a thing, and even now it still has lighting issues with SLI. And then there were stuttering issues at 60Hz; you needed to OVERCLOCK YOUR DISPLAY to get rid of the problem if you had it.

I personally enjoyed it quite a bit, but the issues it had killed it for a lot of people. Then throw in the fact that the general gaming public these days gets burned out on games quickly and requires many unlocks to feel a need to continue playing a game, and you come up with a recipe for a dead game.

I never noticed the stuttering, although I do have an overclocked display. It's not a dead game though, if you want to play it there are plenty of people that play it still, so that's not really an issue.
