Whats the best driver thats out right now for the 8600M GT.

I haven't updated my GeForce or been on this forum in a long time.

    The version I have is

    7.15.0011.5845

    Main Driver: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll

    in my DirectX diagnostic Tool

    Notes:
The file nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll is not digitally signed , which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs ( WHQL ). You may be able to get a WHQL Logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.

    what does this mean o.o

    The latest one.

TBH, I don't know. It really depends on the notebook itself. Some users report better results than others.

I have the 177.83 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, they are the newest ones that are WHQL certified and they work great for me.

The latest Dell drivers (171.74 IIRC) are actually quite good even though they were released in March. I'm sure some of the laptopvideo2go.com ones are better performance-wise, but you certainly can't go wrong with Dell's current ones. They're certainly a good amount better than Dell's mid-2007 ones (having used those for awhile back in the day). I've gained about 30% in 3dmarks since I got my 1520 with Dell driver updates, and noticeably smoother performance in some games. It also allows overclocking (as should laptopvideo2go 17x.xx ones) - although that may only be because I flashed my video BIOS awhile back.

That said, you probably will get slightly better performance from some laptopvideo2go ones. Might try one myself again if there's a definite best one.

Edit: Seems there are two threads on this on the main page. Might want to check out the other as well.
