If this is true, laptops will get back to how thingss were with Pascal, where the full power chips translate with far less throttling of the clocks and power limits.
A 50% boost would continue the pattern of people being skeptical of the boost we'll get from simultaneous process shrinks and architectural changes, only to be blown away by the increase which is delivered.
A downer for laptops enthusiasts though, a 2H 2020 release for the desktop cards could likely mean the Ampere laptops don't launch until Q4 2020 or even early 2021. Yikes.

I think Nvidia will still prevail despite the nm process... There seems to be too much emphasis on nm than how it actually performs...
IMO amd is scraping by with their gpu's largely due to having the advantages of the 7nm process, yet Nvidia is still ahead and mops the floor with the higher end offerings.
It'd be great to see laptops go back to real gpu status instead of this maxQ nonsense. It's very misleading (the naming scheme). Take for example the 2080mq or maxQ line of gimped gpu's in general ... Which is rubbish and nowhere near anything 2080...very sad... -

I bet its 50% better performance when considering raytracing. Normal performance will likely be much less.

Yeah idk sounds like a lot of salesman in different forms trying to prime the market, go look at 30s-50s future science magazines and compare to what we actually have today lol

What he's really trying to do here is sow some doubt in people's mind that will consider purchasing AMD's soon to be announced products. Make them question whether they should wait or not. That's about all this is statement is trying to do. -

For instance, at peak the 5700 XT consumes 19W more than the RX 580, and is 47% faster on average at 4K.
Faster and half consumption is impossible. I'm just hoping the 50% more performance is true. Judging by Navi's results, it's definitely possible and Nvidia has the R&D to realize it. -
I sure hope so... I didn't bought a touring gpu so I'm waiting for Ampere to drop..
If it is 50% more, then from my 1080 to the 3080 I should feel around 80% more power (30 from touring and 40 from Ampere). I don't have my hope up until I see benchmarks with my eyeskolias likes this. -
So when are we going to expect Ampere laptop GPU’s?
