After downloading the new update for CS:S through steam, I wasnt able to start a new map without the game crashing and resulting in windows asking me if I want to send a report. After doing a little snooping around in the Steam forums, I discovered that one of the things that affect steam and steam games is file download manager. Upon closing it, I was actually able to to start a map again! I dont know how are they both related, but somehow they are. So try exiting any Download managing softwares and restart steam.

There is an excellent steam diagnostic tool that tells you everything you need to know.

    hope this helps
