def looks like to much.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
you went for grape, you should be ball parking for pea.
-
too much
just put a rice grain of paste in the center and let the heatsink spread it out as you attach it back -
I forgot to say that this is the reseller`s work. They added the IC Diamond 24 for free, but I wanted to check the quality of their work and just repaste myself.
I had a suspecion that this was too much, especially looking at the paste running to the dots outside the die (whatever that is), but I had to ask you guys.
The CPU was a lot worse btw, sadly I forgot to take pictures of it

ratchetnclank Notebook Deity
Looks a tad excessive

That looks horrible, also IC diamond usually scratches the surface a bit too.. look for that under light shimmer to see if any dmg was done after cleaning. Also that does not even look like ICD. ICD is darker.
-
I didn`t see any damage to the die`s when I used the ArctiClean and I had good light around me. Both the CPU and the GPU die was shiny to me
But you could be right that its no IC diamond. I was promised a free paste from the reseller of IC24. Good thing I repasted then both for the bad paste job plus the possible use of a not so great paste. I will repaste all my future purchases from now on to be shure -
Good thing you did. Mother of god, that is horrible
-
Cloud, dont use ICD, instead your prolimatech pk3 or pk4. ICD will scratch your die thread about it on TI forums. Probably a good thing they did not use ICD in the first place.
-
Isn't it a lot better to spread the paste for laptop cpu's given how the layout of the heatsink and the way it presses down on the cpu is different than on desktops?
Either way, I did the spread method (in a VERY thin way) and I had no problems whatsoever. I actually had better results than applying the 'rice grain' method.
Other than that, the job the manufacturer did was HORRIBLE (if the pics are anything to go by).
You COULD theoretically clean off the excess paste from the cpu and just reduce the amount on the die but retaining the spread form using existing paste - or just re-paste.
its your own decision, but either way do it yourself. -
-
That paste looks like its either separating or it has alcohol poured over it. Definitely WAY too much. That does not look like ICD, it looks like a much thinner paste. Be careful if it's silver based if you get that stuff all over it can cause shorts.
-
That's definitely stock paste from factory. Check with your reseller, it could have been a simple mistake and they forgot to get you the other paste.
-
People in this thread was right on the money about it not being IC24
I spoke to the reseller yesterday. They said that they forgot to apply the IC24 and that this is the stock paste from MSI.
So for future buyers of GT70, REPASTE.
Too much paste?
