Please list your favorite MMOs, rate them, and give pros and cons. The more posts, the more accurate this list will be.

List of all MMOs in 2nd post.

    My list goes:

FlyFF: 7/10. Pros: Free to play, you can fly on all different kinds of things, lots of classes and skills, lots of friendly players, almost pretty much endless upgrade possibilites, crazy dungeons, fun guild siege, cool cash shop items sold in game, easy to make millions of dollars, merchanting is fun, etc.
Cons: Can get a bit "grindy", developers don't listen to the community, graphics are cartoon-ish and peaceful-like, dying at later levels (70+) is a hell of an anger.

WoW: 6.5/10 (from what I played). Pros: HUGE game, lots of items, cool looking graphics, lots of quests, lots of players, apparently fun pvp and raids
Cons: A little too huge for my tastes, quests weren't very fun, more than any other MMO it's widely considered that you're a nerd if you play it. (I didn't play too much of it, maybe 10 hours or so. Didn't get into it at all really... Maybe someone could pursuade me? Cause I heard it's a really good/addictive game.)

Runescape 5/10. Pros: Lots of players, lots of skills, pretty fun quests and things to do, grand exchange (cool trading system).
Cons: Lots of little kids play it, most can't type or are silent, leveling some skills is EXTREMELY BORING, there's a trade limit, a lot of the world is blocked off to members.

Those are my only 3 that I ever liked that I played. And I don't like runescape very much but it's more interesting than most others I've seen, plus it's free. So is FlyFF by the way. If you can get past flyff's graphic style, it's actually a great MMO. I had 2.5 Billion dollars worth of stuff in that game. (yes, billion) And upgrade possibilities are endless. World of Warcraft, I'm interested in seeing opinions on.

I'll tally up all the MMOs mentioned and average their ratings as well as list all PROs and CONS. Please include ratings, pros, and cons. Thanks.

Ratings, pros, and cons -These are all opinions. If you disagree, post ratings, pros and cons, and they will be added and averaged. I will not add anything new under 5/10 or anything without multiple pros or cons. Ratings by themselves will be averaged in. Please be reasonable with your opinions.

Guild Wars (8.5/10). Pros: Long, immersive and interesting non-linear storyline driven campaigns (sophisticated instanced story-telling for an MMO), medieval fantasy themed based on world leading artistic direction with various notable influences: steampunk, cyberpunk, complex class combination system, great both with friends and solo, countless quests, player title systems, pvp is skill dependent, pvp arenas, battlegrounds with either strategic play or deathmatch, highly competitive pvp matches, numerous complex character builds, well defined roles within team play, henchmen system, guild/alliance centred community, stellar graphics for an MMO, fun, no monthly fees, solid netcode, etc.
Cons: highly addictive, non persistent world regarding player versus environment (instanced areas dependent on party formation) and, therefore, lots of loading between instances, player count is dwindling for player versus environment, limited character customization compared to WoW

WoW: (6,6.5,9,10,8,7,10,9,9.5) Average- 8.3/10. Pros: Graphics, HUGE game, never ending, always something to do, huge pvp environment, always learning opportunity, lots of items, lots of quests, lots of players, excellent raids and great strategy, great with friends, good story, music, PvE, game does things right
Cons: Pay to play, could be considered too huge, quests can get boring or tedious, more than any other game it's widely considered that you're a nerd if you play it, unbalanced classes, game doesn't really start until max level, hard to travel until you can fly.

Lineage II: (8/10) [only play on private servers]. Pros: a lot of bugs/unbalances are adressed in private servers, free to play, Huge community, a lot of team play, interesting grinding, good sieges
Cons: (needs cons if not 10/10)

Everquest (7,8,8) Average- 7.7. Pros: Amazing experience. (more pros please)
Cons: Pay to play, around level 40 grinding gets bad, Basically no solo option.

Rift (9,6) Average- 7.5. Pros: great graphics, fun rift invasions, very polished.
    Cons: Something feels absent

FlyFF: 7/10. Pros: Free to play, you can fly on all different kinds of things, lots of classes and skills, lots of friendly players, almost pretty much endless upgrade possibilites, crazy dungeons, fun guild siege, cool cash shop items sold in game, easy to make millions of dollars, merchanting is fun, etc.
Cons: Can get a bit "grindy", developers don't listen to the community, graphics are cartoon-ish and peaceful-like, dying at later levels (70+) is a hell of an anger.

    Anarchy Online (7/10)
Pros: Leveling system, tons of classes, great with friends, free to play
Cons: Grindfest without people to group with, very old, outdated graphics, advertisements

Lord of the Rings Online: (7,7) Average- 7/10. Pros: Nice graphics, well developed, free to play, play at own pace, lore, quests, and visuals, character variety, good frequent updates, helpful and mature community, great for people who like Lord of the Rings.
Cons: too solo friendly, housing system could be better, can get very grindy, combat can get repetitive

    Eve Online (6.5,6) Average- 6.25/10
Pros: Plenty to do, pretty big, PvP, good with groups, can use in game credits to pay for subscription, great piece of art
Cons: Can get boring at times, Not able to solo and do well, PvP, quests can get repetitive, lots of travel involved, combat is unrefined, leveling system could be better

Runescape: 5/10.

FF11: 5/10. Pros: Was fun for a bit and interesting
Cons: Way to redundant. Quest quest quest nothing else thrown in

Pirates of the Burning Sea: 5/10. Pros: PVP, great for fans of the genre, gets more fun at max level.
Cons: A little boring, can lose interest around lvl 25.

    WoW: 9/10
Pros: Never ending and always something to do. With the constant tweaking of your character and huge PvP environment there is always a learning opportunity. I'm literally never bored with it just sometimes frustrated (see below)

Cons: Unbalanced. With every patch some classes grow in strength and others decline. It can be fun cause the table always turns but most of the time it is not player skill related. The game really doesn't start until your max level and can get on par with other players in terms of gear.

    FF11: 5/10
Pros: Was fun for a bit and interesting (huge FF fan)
Cons: Way to redundant. Quest quest quest nothing else thrown in (i played release and not the expansions)

The only good mmos I've played are Conquer Online and Knight Online. They are both grindy as hell but their combat mechanics are fresh (with high skill ceilings) and not stale target enemy -> hotkey press press press.

In the past it was everquest, then I left mmos for a while.

7.5 / 10. Lord of the Rings Online - free to play with purchse options. It truely is a game that you can play at your own pace. I subscribed to that I've gone f2p because I like owning the game and its a lot cheaper. I love the lore, quests, and visuals of the world. Turbine has a beautiful game. Its too solo friendly though, which has pros and cons. There are TONS of quests and you never get them all done. Alts are fun and almost bring a new game each time you play. With a new expansion coming out on Tuesday, we'll see what the changes do to class balance and the other system. The housing system could be better. Updates are pretty frequent and pretty good. I love the game, but it can get REALLY grindy with the legendary system and some od the newer content (yes, I'm talking to you medallions of the northmen!). The community is mostly mature and helpful both in game and the message boards, if not a little on thw whiney side. I say if you're interested, give it a go. The story can't be beat (if you love lotr lore that is). The combaqt isn't as bad as some play it out, but it can get repititive at times.

    Lineage II
Mostly on private servers only, because there are some that are much better then the official ones and a lot of bugs/unbalances are adressed, also much better support and aren't only looking for our money, they truly are f2p servers.
Huge community, a lot of team play, interesting grinding and there aren't many quests (at least not many that are worth to be done), most of the time you are grinding in party and pvp (a lot). Sieges are sick!
8/10 but I repeat, private servers only, the official ones are just like any other MMO (greedy and full of cheaters).

The 3 that fall onto my list, though with Eve Online I will preface I didn't get a lot of time to play with it (Harddrive failed a few days into the trial ugh):

    Anarchy Online (7/10)
Pros: Love the leveling system, sci-fi themed, tons of classes, great with friends, free to play
Cons: Grindfest without people to group with, very old, outdated graphics, advertisements

    WoW (6/10)
Pros: Big world, plenty of people playing, great with a friend to join you, pretty good story, always something to do
Cons: Too big, really annoying to travel until you get a mount, quests get very tedious after awhile

    Eve Online (6.5/10)
Pros: space themed, plenty of options for what to do, also pretty big, PvP, good with groups, can use in game credits to pay for subscription
Cons: Only played lower levels and it got...boring at times, Supposedly not able to lone-wolf it and do well, PvP, Quests are nothing special, remember there being a lot of travel involved

@coyotedelmar, I added anarchy and eve, but sci-fi and space themed could be considered a pro or a con by opinion so I didn't add. Thanks for the post!

You can solo PvP 1 vs 5-10+ people easily, depending on their skill, if you put a little bit of thought into your fits.

Did you quote both of us to put emphasis on the fact I changed lone-wolf to solo? Because I only changed that so it was easier to understand. By the way there's a comma between lone-wolf and pvp. They're not related in the cons. They are intended as seperate cons. I'm thinking he meant lone wolf the entire game.

EDIT: I love that "haz no fear, fear iz mindkillerz"

WoW 10/10. By far the best raiding experience of any game. By far the best gaming experience ever requiring all 25 players to execute their roles perfectly. Nothing in gaming has come close to what I experienced raiding Sunwell (Blizzard said the most difficult raid they created).
    - I've never played any game that has come close to the sense of relief and accomplishment when progression was achieved with all 25 players on Vent congratulating each other after 1-2 weeks of attempts and all those hours of strategizing, and discussing alterantive strategies to try.

So I know it's the cool thing to do to hate on WoW, but for me, it's by far the #1 multi-player online game I ever played. I just don't have the time to play it any longer. If I did, I may still play it.

Cons: highly addictive, non persistent world regarding player versus environment (instanced areas dependent on party formation) and, therefore, lots of loading between instances, player count is dwindling for player versus environment due to age (and upcoming Guild Wars 2), limited character customization options if compared to WoW (for example).

Rift 9/10: Fun game, decent graphics, Rift invasions were fun. Unfortunately my current laptop only got about 20 fps on low so I had to quit.

WoW 7/10: Played until 2008, loved the graphics, music, PvE. Community wasn't too bad even though a bunch of younger people play. Only downside was the imbalanced classes.

I think DAOC was the game I enjoyed the most but I think part of that was "right time, right place". Right now I'd have to say WOW only because they have the $ and team to keep fresh content coming faster than other MMOs. And in the end it's all about new content.

You could just add in vote option, as it will be hard for you to track down stuff.
I cant understand how you can give Lineage 8 and WoW 6.

MMORPG is defined by amount of content.
The bigger the world — the better the mmorpg since you have a lot of stuff to get involved with.
I am not playing WoW for a while now but i still consider it the best MMORPG out there. Most polished, tons of things to do and explore etc. I dont think there are many real competitors who are alive.

    Those are what i played.

WoW — 10/10. i cant see of anything you could improve there. Sure i would like it to be more hardcore or have better graphics but i do understand why it is made that way and its not really a downside for most people. So its pretty much perfect in terms of being the best you can have.

Aion — 6/10 endgame isnt engaging enough and in general there are not much things to do. Leveling is a stupid grind.

Lineage — 4/10 It was engaging enough at first but it didnt improved over time as much as u would like it to. Leveling is even more silly.

Warhammer online — 7/10. When i played it it was like 5-6/10 but overall concept deserves a 7. Group quests, bg leveling, fun sieges, rather big world, decent graphics.

EVE — great piece of art for what it is 6/10. For me its extremely boring but you cant really expect much from a sandbox type of game. It got 6 because quests are repetitive, combat system is unrefined, and leveling system is silly to me.

Everquest: was an amazing experience. My first MMO. I will always remember Kelethin, the tree-top starting city, hanging out by the POD lift and owning up orcs. But then you got to the "Hell Levels" around level 40ish, where it literally took weeks of grinding to level up once! Also there was zero soloability, it took a whole group to kill 1 mob your level. -- 7/10

Dark Age of Camelot: Didn't keep my interest for very long. Pretty meh all around, but RvR PvP style was kinda neat -- 4/10

Final Fantasy 11 Online -- terrible, barely got to level 20 before giving it the boot -- 2/10

WoW -- By far the best mmo I've played. Huge fan of Warcraft series all the way from Orcs vs Humans. This game kept me hook (with breaks every few months due to RL) for 6 years. It was such an amazing experience to be a part of the warcraft lore from a personal view. Killing Arthas was the icing on the cake. Don't play anymore, mainly because the community has gone to crap. LFD tool was a good idea in theory but it destroyed both the exploration aspect and the teamwork aspect of the game. -- 9/10

RIFT -- only played the 7-day trial, but from what I experienced it was pretty good! Amazing graphics, very polished game, but something felt absent. Probably the lack of amazing warcraft lore haha. Wasn't enough for me to bite -- 6/10

Tibia - 9/10. There are seasonal updates, and world events. Lots of people on each server (sometimes good, sometimes bad)

I've been playing this game Tibia for AGES, like 7+ years so my rating of it is relatively high compared to what other people would give it.

Everquest - 8/10 - Just started this past year, and it's been ok, more of a group game and not as many people online. It's pay to play also. This has yearly updates so something new. There's a small learning curve and it's a lot slower compared to other games.

Vindictus - 7/10 - Not sure if that qualifies as MMORPG. You go through missions, and only missions. Every mission is its own map, outside of that you can walk around town and talk to NPC to get items/quest/auction and so on. Was good in the beginning then it got repetitive after I did missions over and over again non stop.

Everquest - 8/10 - I haven't played in years, but it was the first 1st person 3d mmo, and at the time it was an awesome experience. I don't know what it's like now.

SWG - 9.5/10 - When this game launched, it was the most fun game I had ever played. I stopped playing a few years ago when the developers made some radical changes to the game.

Pirates of the Burning Sea - 5/10 - I loved the genre (longtime fan of Patrick O'Brian and C.S. Forester) but this game was a little boring. I'm told that it gets more fun at max level, when you can participate more in PVP, but I lost interest by level 25.

Lord of the Rings Online - 7/10 - Nice Graphics, seems well developed. It didn't hold my interest long either, but I can't really say why. It is a good game.

Star Trek Online - LOL =)

Star Wars: The Old Republic - to be determined - Anxiously awaiting the release of this game. The old single-player KOTOR games are legendary. Hopefully the mmo will reflect that level of quality and storytelling.

UO - 8/10 - First MMO, great game; amazing PVP before they removed precasting. Even then i have a ton of great memories from the game
EQ - 5/10 - I play this game way too long, so long i saw go from decent to crap
    Matrix Online - 1/10 - Crap
LotR Online - 2/10 - My comp at the time couldn't run beta that well....so crap
WoW - 9.5/10 - The problem with this game is it did too many things correctly, granted; it eventually became unfun and this was my last MMO but in the end i feel this game is as close to a perfect MMO as we're ever going to see for a while

I didn't add the "omigawd 10/10 (x) game rawks" posts for obvious reasons.

Like I said earlier, if you disagree with any of the ratings, give your own reasonable rating and I will average it in.

I don't think Guildwars should qualify as an MMO.

Its more like diablo where you meet in one room and then go advanture in a separate world instance.

Note, this is not a rip on Guildwars in any way. Its just not really an MMO.

    Ultima Online 3/10
The first try... community tanked after first few months, no balance, everyone was exactly the same. Horrible controls, no skill required. No point in continuing playing. Sad, as the beta and first few months were quite fun.

    EQ (original) 7/10
The first real MMORPG. Despite its bugs, the best storyline and immersive world created to date... Real racial conflict, real PvP (on such servers) skill and patience required to play on all fronts. Community among the best of any MMO ever. Bugs and eventually SOE's mismanagement killed it.

    EQ2 2/10
Hard to imagine a game worse than UO... It pretty well showed me that SOE should NEVER be allowed to make or manage an MMO ever. It felt like EQ1 lite, and UO had more story.

    Lineage2 8.5/10
The best PvP MMO in existance right now. Don't like someone? Kill them. Don't like their name? Kill them. Like them? help them survivie in a world full of people who can and will kill you. Recent upgrades to mobs and zones has made the game more challenging and immersive in PvE as well. Real community of adults who play. XP loss on death... no "if I die 50,000 times i'll eventually win". Takes time to develop and thus the WoW crowd doesn't last long. Even the people I will kill on sight in game I have more respect for than anyone I have ever met in any other MMO. Downsides exist but community is worth playing even on retail servers. Retail servers have some balance problems and the GMs on the retail servers seem helpless.
Game tech is a bit dated at this point... still prefer their characters to anything on the market save Conan though.

    Age of Conan, levels 1-20 = 9.5/10, level 21+ 4/10
The absolute best MMO to date levels 1-20. After 20, there is nothing really to do and the game felt unfinished. Game was nerfed in adult content after release to appeal to WoW crowd. Game fell apart after then. Now free to play, but loss of adult content has stopped me from going back. Why play Conan is the people spill sweat instead of blood and every demoness you meet acts and dresses like a prude?

    WoW 3/10
Horrid extreme-cartooony graphics(neon pink paladins using weapons that they couldn't possibly swing), not bad gameplay, but the worst community of any MMO ever. Anyone mentally over the age of 12 will feel like they are babysitting. Newbie maxed-out toons are the norm. Expect to meet people with completely maxed out toons who really don't understand why their DD wearing light armor shouldn't tank the endgame boss mob while standing in "ick". (they then blame the healers who didn't give them a heal when they got one-hit) Expect as the norm people who won't do level 20 dungeons without a max-level with insane equipment ratings to "run them through". Expect as the norm people who absolutely refuse to try any raid without massively overpowering the encounter. (when death is meaningless)Expect as the norm loot drama over something the player will replace in a matter of hours. I suggest if you play that you develop the patience of a saint or simply turn off all chat channels. (in which case it kinda fails to be an MMO) Developed and maintained for people who can barely tie their own shoelaces...

why wouldnt you call GW a MMO?

RoM 5/10 Runes of Magic F2P (with micro transactions) game. Massive world with kinda meh graphics... realistic graphics though not cartoonish like WoW. PvP is a mixed bag with some very cool mechanics, but recent updates have made everyone do way to much damage (read everyone gets 1-2 shoted).

PvE is a mixed bag too, new instances are cool with some very fun strats... trade off is there are way to many targeting issues, sometimes when the object your hitting is clearly right in front of you. Right now the RoM economy is in a rough spot atm with some pretty massive inflation. Its a fun game though especially if you got some people to play with.

    WoW 4/10
PROs: The game to judge all games by. Big world, good story
CONS: The community just killed the game IMHO

    GW 6/10
PROS: Big world and great graphics. Always something to do,generally good community
CONS: The wait for gw2 has left a lot of older players such as myself bored (played since it came out).

    EVE: 8.5/10 (Playing now)
PROS: Huge! Nice graphics and music (I like the music lol), a lot like real world, able to skill up in time (good for having kids)
CONS: Slow skill up (compared to others), steep learning curve, some players elitist

    KO 3/10 (Knight online)
PROS: Some of the best PvP I have ever played! Can buy your next house selling items
CONS: Cheaters were really bad when I played (Warriors walking around with raptors shooting arrows), generally immature players

    Runescape 4/10
PROS: Good concepts, incorporates all the important parts of an MMO good, many players
CONS: Sometimes to many players, grindy

    Rift 6/10
PROS: Nice graphics, interesting class mechanics, rifts are interesting
CONS: Did not feel complete, did not feel at all addicting to me, Same as every other MMO

LotRO 8/10 (Lord of the rings online)
PROS: Graphics are peaceful (if that makes sense), big map, plenty to do, good mechanics and story
CONS: A lot like everyone else, seems to have a high rate of beggars

I have played more but I will stop here...

I did play UO, i also played MU and many others mmorpgs however i think OP wants to make a rating of current mmorpgs not something that was good 10 years ago. I think i played UO around 2001 — it was a briliant game, so many things to do, you could even skin a bunny, make a stake and sell pelt.... Wohoo, those days!
Btw i played on some russian server and there it was quite balanced from pvp point of view.

Boring compared to what? Tell me where do i find better questing.
WOTLK questing is like — you kill a goblin, pick a note saying that you need to go somewhere, jump on an airplane, throw bombs on a pirate ship, help a ghost to go to rest by finding some artifact on the bottom of the sea, put some huge bear to sleep while persuading his master to let the girl go, ride a shark, speak to some whale, help him find his family, get on the train and shoot some dragons with a cannon while harpooning them, jump on a harpoon and shoot yourself to a distant island, then go do a massive pvp quest.. — and all this is somehow relevant to main story line of killing a lich king or smth. Boring? I can only compare it to Aion — "you need to kill 850 more elite innocent goblins if you want to get from 49 to 50. Alternatively you can kill 3000 non elite goblins, they have same skin though.". Wohoo.

p.s. i am sorry if this thread isnt meant to discuss other people's opinions -)

It is heavily instanced, yes, but overall it has many MMO characteristics. You may be referring to PvE, but PvP is different. It may not be a full fledged MMO, but it definitely belongs to the category.

+ it was reviewed and accepted as an MMO while being the second most popular MMO after WoW at one point. :D

Guildwars, regardless of situation is never "Massively Multiplayer".
At least not on the level of games like EQ (take 80-100 of your friends to a raid) or L2 (100 vs 100 castle sieges).

The GW world is not consistent save the middle hub and arena, the community is decent but disjointed at best. There is no need to ever have anyone else in the game and no reliance on other players in the least.

Example: in L2, I can solo... but to do so is insanely slower than grouped in a high-end party. There are instances, but the main world you are in 99% of the time is shared.

Honestly, if Guildwars is considered an MMO, then Diablo and Diablo 2 should qualify as well.

Note I liked GW, D and D2... I just don't think they really qualify as "massively multiplayer". :)

WoW is still the best mmo imo even though i stopped playing it over a year ago. ive tried rift aoc warhammer and lotr, nothing feels as smooth as wow.

rift was the most upsetting experience. mainly because it is a copy of wow but with 3x less stuff to do. and even wow dont have enough content these days.
