Iv e been playing a new game for pc that just came out called Torchlight. Im really surprised about this game. To describe this game think diablo 2 with world of warcraft graphics. Thats what it feels like.
At first when I saw the character selection screen I thought hmm looks a little cartoonish. almost amature like. then once I played it i was like wow this is actually pretty good. Especially for the 20 dollar retail.
the music score brings back great diablo memories and the questing is easy to find with world of warcraft like indicators. they also threw in a netbook graphics mode so that may be of interest to some.
here are some scores if you liked diablo series and world of warcraft pick this up it at D2D.
gamespot score 8.0 (they are strict)
avg score 8.4
usr score 8.8

Its the spiritual sequel to Fate, its much more similar to Fate than Diablo and I agree for $20 if this is your kind of game you cant go wrong.
You can sink a lot of time into this game.
I have some 5760x1200 screenshots I'll put up when I get a chance to show off how well this game handles ultra wide screen. -
if you can sink alot of time into this game like you said ill be happy. Have you beat the game or have any idea approximately how many hours of gameplay it has.

There is no multiplayer and thats the largest let down, but thats also one of the reasons its so cheap.
This guy says a lot more than I can:

Also there is a demo of it if you want to try before you buy.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
Its a great game and when I get the money to support them I will buy this game (broke student).
Also they are making it into an MMO and just released a single player to tide people over and make some money for the development. -

The other thing that will be important I think is how it comes with a map creator, to this day Warcraft 3 still lives on just because of all the custom maps and games.
while Torchlight does not have the same kind of map making as Warcraft 3 did, I think user made maps will expand the life of this game a great deal if it has a big fan base.
Also it scales down very very well, its not a demanding game it runs on any computer, it even has a netbook mode! But even despite this it still looks really nice graphically. -
one of the things I noticed in this game is you can just hold down the mouse button and you continue to swing and fight. so you dont have to frantically wale on your mouse if you get overwhelmed with enemys.
I will have to look for the map editor later. It sounds like a fun toy to mess with. -

Yeah thats right. It was particularly effective with the barbs frenzy because you could just move the mouse and let frenzy do all the work (rather than frantically clicking everything to try and keep it up).

LOL, I use the Ember Lance, level 4, and swing it around like a flash light. Eww, that smell of buning critters!
Just started playing and loving it. This will hold me over until DLC and other issues with Dragon Age is worked out. Very worth the $20!! -
I'd jump all over this if it was multiplayer, I'm just not into single player hack n slash. I wonder if they'll keep the difficulties like currently are when multiplayer is released or if they'll do it like d2 with normal/nightmare/hell style. I like the option of going through again at higher difficulty in multiplayer, rather than being limited to playing with only people that chose the same difficulty as you originally
-
even without the multiplayer i still think its a great game for 20 bucks

Torchlight on 3x24" screens, the game works perfectly on ultra wide setups, it adds more view to the game and keeps the tool bars in the correct places.

There will be a mmo version of this game in the future, but this is the first iteration and its single player only.
I find it to be rather enjoyable though and wont complain one bit. -
I'll be grabbing this instead of Dragon Age.

-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Will definitely pick this up but am neck deep into Borderlands right now and no intention of surfacing.
-
haha I have all three
-borderlands
-da
-torch
and I try to play them at least all once a day, but it's so hard to tear away from the first one I start playing that day.... -
& I wanna play Torchlight as well -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
^^ Lol I love your title. And completely agree!
-
you really have to have some patience with DA, I like rpg's I like options and I like tactics. I don't mind a slow pace game. For some rpg lovers, DA is a jewel among jewels. But for the all around gamer...it is a slow paced rpg that requires too much patience. Borderlands, as most people know by now has an rpg element but overall it is an fps.
You can't compare borderlands to dragon age. It's not fair. That's like comparing diablo 2 to call of duty 4 -

Today was a torchlight day for me, I have two lvl 50s in Borderlands and top end loot so backing out for a bit to let others catch up.
I have DA also but that game will wait until I can give it undivided attention, playing a rpg without making it your only game at the time is never a good idea.
I still have Farcry 2 that I bought from a forum member like 2 months ago and have not even installed it yet.
Torchlight is a lot of fun and simple to play, the sheer amount of loot and things you can do with your loot feels unending.
I got a really good helmet from the gamble guy for half my gold, then decided why not make it better? took it to the enchanter and he tried to enchant it and removed all the enchants that were on it
Then tried three more times and got some decent stuff on it, then needed to get some really good spells for sale and was out of money
I got the identify spell now though, so no more buying identity scrolls or having them take up inventory space. Im a lvl 9 alchemist right now.
I have not even tried transmutation yet, combine any 2 items for another one??? that sounds crazy, im scared to do it as I have no idea what I will get back. It maybe an item I cant use or dont need. -
I tried it a couple times and it forced me to put in 4 items. Spit out a crappy gem to stick into an open item socket.

If you guys are playing this game as I am right now.
There is a 1.12 patch and a 1.12b hotfix that updates the game to fix a lot of bugs/exploits that you want to get.
The devs are putting a lot of support behind the game and its showing, also it has an active and productive mod community.
One of the very first things I did when playing the game for the first time was search for the key to rotate the camera, and when I googled up the key list for the game I saw there was not one... really strange I thought.
And so my prayer was answered by this great mod: TorchCam - http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3966
Rotating camera, zoom in/out, first person mode and all that jazzy stuff.
Only bad thing about it is that when you rotate your camera the mini map wont rotate so your direction can get off kilter.
1.12 also cut my already fast loading time to nearly half, and its supposed to have performance boosts as well (game already well over 100fps for me on all my machines so cant say I noticed it) -
Does anyone know how many floors this games have? I am currently on the 21 floor.
-
I want to say 36 floors? Gametrailers has a review and they mentioned the total number.

I'm stuck on the 23 floor! I made the mistake of taking a peek at DAO. This has reeled me in for a whole rainy day. Looks like Torchlight will have to take a back seat for now. I'll give Torchlight an 8 with DAO a 10. No crashes or major issues with either at this time!

I was playing DO:A today and really like it and was going to put torchlight away for a while too, but for some reason I am having objects in the game vanish and appear when I move the camera. It has something to do with the ultra wide FOV/Resolution I am using, so I need to force myself to wait for a patch to fix it so I can enjoy the game properly.

Batman is really good, did not take long to beat though.
-
I was reading the torchlight forums and a couple of folks have created a nice ice texture for the game. so expect a nice ice level at some point to play through.
-
^ Yeah, I'm really excited to see what types of mods will showing up in the coming months. This is going to give the game some great longevity.
-
As quoted on the Torchlight home page, the game is supposedly 30 levels long with 7 different textures layouts and takes 10-20 hours to complete. Also 40 minutes of original music. I think it's totally worth the $20. Eagerly awaiting the Mac version (which they have specified they are working on).
-
-
^ Dragon Age: Origins, is what I assume he meant.
-
Would my demo charecter carry over to the full game if i bought it?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
-
not that far but it would be nice haven't completed the demo yet i'm only a lv 4 on the 2nd level not sure how much farther the demo goes.
-
Was hoping to buy the game once an offer came out for it, but I tried the demo and completed it in a ridiculous amount of time. Immense fun!
Will be buying. -
-
-
-
Thanks for the headsup though.
-
Demo allows up to level 7. -
Torchlight is certainly a great game and has received tremendous praise for a game with such a small budget/dev team. They did an awesome job with it. That being said it will not last me too long. Im cruising through the game right now with relative ease and the only game thats kept me hooked after I beat it is Diablo 2.
I agree that there is way to many game choices this holiday season!
