Hello..
Well, my Qosmio X300 has a 9700M GTS. All what I know is that 9700M GTS is MXM 2.1 type 3; however, I am not sure about the information. But I knew that my GPU can be replaced with 9800M GTX according to X300 Lounge Thread, which is for CLEVO BASED - M570TU AND D900C. The GTX 280M is for CLEVO BASED - M570TU AND M860TU. So Since the M570TU is common, I think the card may work, although I have no clues. For the Cooling issues, I have no thoughts yet. I am already using a 12V 120mm FAN as an external laptop cooler, and having a 12V fan installed instead of the 5V fan into the heatsink powered by a DC-DC Step Up Converter ( Converts 5V to 12V) .. which I think is enough ..
So any ideas about this upgrade ? Don't mention how much will this cost me because I am getting a deal on it $$$![]()
Thanks a lot

The difference between the 9700 and the 9800m GTX is only 15 watts, so as long as you put some good thermal paste on it, it should be fine. I think there was a version of the X300 thats uses the 9800m GTX.

Yes. You need a 'toshiba' 9000M GTX. There is a discussion going on about this, take a look at the few last pages..

Actually I was asking about the GTX 280M.. I just mentioned the 9800M GTX as a compatible GPU.. Sorry for not clarifying my question so well.

EVen better, we discussed it on the link I sendt you. It is just like "try out and see" no one knows if it will work. If so, you must use a GTX 280M from X500

I did not know that it was discussed earlier. The thread is too big. But is there a Qosmio X500 that have a GTX 280M.. All I know that Toshiba only used GTS 360M and GTS 250M only. I do not think that there is a Qosmio X500 GTX 280M...

yes i agree.. GTS360M was max used... seriously OP , sell ur X300..a GPU upgrade is too expensive...

My advice is: Sell your Toshiba and buy another laptop
I acquired my x305-Q706 in August 09" and right now is in my room taking dust.
Why? More than 7 replacements of mobo/GPU, and not even to mention that every service takes almost 1 month (at least in Mexico).
I was thinking to do the same, but with all my bad experiences and like it uses Toshiba propietary slots, upgrading is expensive and if is going to fail again, i wouldn't take the risk.
Sadly is not very easy for me to sell my Toshiba: first was expensive when i bought it and i will lost a lot, and like it doesn't has warranty (ah yeah, i can forget the bad history that it has when the interested person asks) is very difficult. Another thing is that im still paying that crap of laptop for another year (24 months, until august 11", i know it was a bad idea but i needed that laptop for school and an uncle help me because my previous XPS 1640 was stolen).
I had previous Toshibas and never had an issue with them, but with this X305 im never going to buy another, i only use it like a server in my room for multimedia and sometimes as a back-up pc. I can't play anything there because the idea of another dead mobo/gpu doesn't allow me.
P.S: If your Qosmio has 2 fans (in my case it has, i dont know if your model has) you could test another GPU, if not dont even try it. -
I have the X300 with dobble fan. I have not had a single problem with mobo or GPU. But, I can understand what you mean, I'll also not even look at a Toshiba again in store after x300
