    Hello,
I own a Toshiba Qosmio X300-130 PQX32E and iam more than happy with the laptop, but recently I decided to updgrade my laptop since I have extra cash !! So I Started with the CPU I Upgraded it to the MAX available which is ( Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX9300) And I can say my laptop chaged totally ....... And iam thinking of upgrading my GPU too, I heard the (GTS360M) Was The MAX used, is this true >? or I can use the latest one !!! like (GeForce GTX 780M) The latest that NVIDIA offers or if not what is the latest I can upgrade to.
    Thank you in advance :)
    Best Regards :)

should have just used the extra cash to get a new laptop, no point in upgrading a 4 year old system. I dont think youll be able to upgrade even to the GTS 360.

Probably the 9800gtx, possibly the 260m gtx, but even then its probably not that much of an upgrade from your pre-existing gpu, i assume u either have a 9700gts or 9800gtx

Yes you are right I have the 9700GTS so the MAX UPGRADE IS 260m gtx ..... Ok thank you :)
Maybe the GPU IS NOT OF A DEAL BUT THE PROCESSOR, IS REALLY FAST :)

Apparently the gpu bios is part of the system phoenix bios on the lappy. Even if you source a new part it is not by any means guaranteed to work.

Yes you are right, but gotta take the risk !!
1 last question Does the laptop Support 2800MHz in RAM since I was thinking of buying (High-performance 8GB (2x4GB) Dominator Platinum DDR3 memory kit with Intel XMP 1.3 profile) so Will it work or the max is 1066 :)
    Thank you again :)

Nope and nope. You will have to stick with 2x 4GB DDR2 laptop sodimms at maybe max 1333mhz speed. For a total of max 8GB.

After a quick look, I do not see any Qosmio x300's with a GTX 260m. Therefore I would be careful doing that. I do however see the 9800m GTX in these laptops and for sale here. The performance is very similar anyway between the 9800m GTX, and GTX 260m.

Really though, the top AMD IGP's today probably beat your card. The A10-5750m looks like it gets a very similar 3dmark Vantage score ( 9800m GTX on notebookcheck is 4743 avg, 4825 median, and A10 5750m is 5000 reported by AMD). It would not be hard to sell your laptop and spare processor and find something for not much extra that would perform better with longer battery life. As a bonus you would get Directx 11 compatibility and likely a warranty on the new goods.

But if you really like the laptop, I couldn't blame you for tinkering with the thing to see what she can do. Look what people have done with the AW M15x. You may not be as lucky as those guys, but have fun anyway.

So after owning a X300 I understand why you want to keep it, screen is good, speakers, keyboard ect ect.

You cannot get any video card though, the MXM (GPU) port on these are different and so you're limited to the 9800GTX, you could go ahead a purchase a 260M and have it as a nice ornament or something, but it wont FIT in the laptop let alone work. As for RAM you will also be stuck to DDR2.

You could go ahead a purchase a 9800, but there is a reason why I used to own the X300, the 9 series from Nvidia are terrible for durability, my 9700 broke three times, then the warranty dropped and low and behold, it broke again leaving me with a large red laptop which doesn't work, and I wasn't just unlucky, people all over forums had problems with the 9 series just dying on them over and over again.

You're better off with the 9700 till that dies (which it will, unless you're super lucky and got a working card) and get a whole new laptop all together.

The 9800m gtx is still a fine card. My old 8800m gtx gets vantage score of 5000. I can still play most new games just fine at mostly high details at 720p and 30+ fps

Thank, you all for the replies, I guess I will go for the 9800GTX because it is 1gb and the one I have now is 9700M GTS and it is only 512, and (roughavoc) the laptop USES DDR 3 :) So in 2 Words With the Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX9300 CPU and the Nvidia 9800GTX GPU the laptop is at its max :)

Good to hear you have DDR3 RAM. But you really need to get 204-pin SODIMM modules for laptops, not desktop modules like the one you mentioned. I don't own a laptop from that era so can't comment on the compatibility with current RAM models..

Are you serious? SLI means two graphics cards. Where do you suppose the second card would go in your Toshiba?

How much total did you spend on the QX9300 and 9800M GTX?

Open the CD drive and just wedge the second card in there. Don't worry if it's not a perfect fit. The system will automatically detect the second card and update the drivers accordingly.

Seriously though how much did you spend on "trying" to modernize your laptop ?
As a rule of thumb with tech, you got to know when to move on, parts especially old laptop parts are not cheap, you are better off getting something new, that doesn't mean you have to upgrade all the time, if your computer or laptop is good enough for what you use it for by all means use the crap out of it, but when you feel you need to upgrade, doing it part by part is not the way to go, more so with a laptop as old as your Toshiba, that said in some cases upgrading can be worth doing, people upgrade Clevo's, Msi's and Alienware's all of the time, but those companies cater more towards doing so, it is arguably the same problem though, parts like GPU's and CPU's are expensive, also new norms release every few years, be it memory type, usb type, new screen resolutions, new sata type, new DirectX etc etc, I really think (and this is my personal opinion) that after 3 years upgrading a laptop (aside from ram, hdd, wifi card?) isn't worth the trouble or the cost, and you are better off getting something new.
