The Toshibas are now coming with Nvidia's instead of ATIs. Out of curiosity. I wanna know what Im missing out on.Which is better? The ATI Radeon HD 4650 vs the Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
Also? What is the Nvidia equivalent to the 4650? The ATI equivalent to the 230M?

I think they are both about the same, with the 230M only a slight bit better. 230M is probably equivalent to the 4670, so it's only a tad better I think.
-
I think the GT240m is closer to the HD4650. The 230m is a little bit behind that.

In terms of performance ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 DDR3 is faster than both GT230 and GT240 (the same core and just 50MHz difference between these two). The difference is between some 5800 3D Mark06 for GT240 and some 6500 for 4650 however in games 4650 gets even more ahead especially in games like Crysis or Race Driver Grid
Google translated German test of GT240 inside Acer Aspire 5739G compared to 4650 LINK -
4650 owns GT230M and GT240M so you're looking at something like a GT250M or GT260M is more like a 4650..

Yay! i was looking at it and was worried that since I bought it earlier, I had missed out on something spiffy. Yay. I got the better deal!

just a question.
im deciding between 2 laps. one has hd4650 512 ddr3 and one has gt 230m 1gb gddr3.
but ati in vaio is downclocked to 450/600.. is it still better then 230m or not? -
-
Better is still own as far as i care..
-
is downclocked (450/600) hd4650 512ddr3 weaker or stronger then normally clocked gt 230m 1gb gddr3?
-
Honestly, the difference between the cards isn't very much. It depends more on the games you play. If you read any review about any video card, some games play better with ATI, while others with nVidia.

im deciding between 2 laps.
toshiba has t7450,4gb ddr3,gt 230m 1gb gddr3
sony has t6600,4gb ddr2, apparently downclocked hd4650 512ddr3.
so for best gaming performance should choose toshiba? -
downclocked 4650 not good.. can you consider some other laptops with these cards?
