The price is insane (could get a np9262 with 2gb sli, for less), and its still ugly as hell.![]()
-
nice price tag.
thats almost as much as my first year tuition. -
Yeah I'll take the np9262 with the desktop Q9650 and dual 9800GTX and pocket the difference. I also won't have to risk getting my lunch money stolen for carrying around that bright monstrosity.
-
waste - get the $1999 version with SLI 9800m GTS
-
Lol @ the 1980s design trying to cover up for the fat parts. With that much money the NP9262 or the Precision M6400 is looking good to me...
-
Toshiba is going way too hardcore, i mean they can do high end machines, but they shouldnt turn into Alienware o_0
-
Wow what a waste of processor considering how to the graphics card is :/
-
whats wrong with the Graphics card ?
its still very capable, specially its SLI there..
-
still only has 1400 resolution. you would think they would have bump it up

never mind the quad cores, look at the screen!!!
1440*900 for sli 9800m gts!!!
man you have to carry around a 24'' monitor to game properly. -
well true, 1440x900 sounds unfair for a quadie and Sli 9800GTS, like 2 cores are gonna remain unused.. since i'm a SLI user, SLI is better with higher Resolution (i regret not getting 1900x1200)
-
you can get the 1440/900 on the dual core as well
-
WSXGA+ is 1680x1050, so which is the typo? Either it's supposed to say WXGA+ (1440x900), or it's really a 1680x1050 screen.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
I'd assume WSXGA+ 1680x1050.
For $4,200, I'd get an Alienware m17x, Sager NP9262/Clevo D901C, or OCZ whitebook. -
-
Oh watch out Sager, Clevo, Alienware, someones gonna start taking over the notebook gaming market. This is where the battle is Gateway knows it and is trying to stop Toshiba's momentum.
-
Toshiba is killing it's own momentum with that butt fugly color scheme.
-
-
The only way I can see this succeed is if they dramatically cut prices and become a 'value' high-end laptop manufacturer.
And for goodness sakes, rebalance and redesign those laptops. Throw in a good T9300 and a proper screen with 9800m GT SLI. The design is subjective (I honestly don't mind it) but the build quality is AWFUL. -
i can imagine someone trying to resell that $4200 laptop after 2 months of use...that would be one big haircut
-
Why the T9300 instead of a Montevina chip? -
-
Toshiba knows how to balance quality components to give the consumers a high end bargain and still compete with the specialty manufacturers without cutting to much corners and have a lot of flaws and defects because it's too cheap (i.e. p7811fx).
Also the fancy look is quality, but overkill, still nice though. And they did it because of the reviews of how nice their first gaming series the x205 looks and wanted to go build on that, but I guess with all the complaints now I would think their next gaming series will probably be a little more humble looking. Hopefully as elegant as the x205. -
ok, that whole thing has typo errors all through it.
in the first paragraph it says they are 9800m gtx cards. gtx had 1 gig gddr3 mem. and below they say dual 9800m gts.
wsxga is 1680x1050 but right under it it says 1440x900= wxga+
says dual 7200 rpm drives for 400 gigs of space. and at the bottom it says 1x320 plus a 128 gig solid state drive...
sounds like someone mixed the specs of two different computers...wonder which one is which. -
I think it's a sweet rig.. you do get the SSD 128GB with it.. the screen res is still a joke, and they don't list the HDMI-out, Im sure they wouldn't have taken that away from the original x305-q701. Then again, the q705 lost HDMI.. Anyhow, Pros: GTS SLI(overclock better than GT/GTX), SSD, Good sound system, lots of room for cooling internally, QX9300 w/180watt power supply. Cons: Screen res sucks, keys are too glossy, no Blu-ray(suprised they dont have any HDDVD's layin around to toss in it), no HDMI(I dont think), very pricey considering there's comparable systems for $1000 less. However, I did have the q701 when it was released..and build quality is good with these things. Eh, I don't think we'll see this one at Best Buy
-
just one thing E-Wrecked, with a Quadcore inside, i dont think you can OC those cards really.
-
Well although I can't benefit from your experiments anymore I wanted to know how the 177.79 drivers worked for you when you had the x305. Were you able to game on battery without it downclocking? Oh and I tried disabling powermizer throught the registry but no perflevelsrc. -
that option could be hard coded now in the bios.. like the 7811fx. (speculation of course)
they already know what can happen if you start gaming on battery. the thing will just shut completely off in the middle of the game. and you would have to plug it back in to get it to come back on. i had to do that with the 6860/6831 fx model gateways. -
-
lucky you!!
what about:

full explanation of how to change the settings

good info john..
jacob, that thread I created about OC'ing it and such.. those were the optimal drivers that I had tried at that point. I went through many drivers..and settled on those. Since then, there's probably better stuff out. And as a matter of fact, I found a set of Xfastest drivers for the 7811FX and 9800m GTS that *nothing* has been able to touch.
Xfastet's 177.85 Here
It has been a hot minute since I've reviewed anything in the x305 thread.. but I bet ya these drivers will outperform whatever you're using now. Just clean the current drivers, and then run the setup.exe that is extracted by the Xfastest download. No modded inf needed. Lemme know how it goes. And, if I find some free time I may revisit the BIOS OC as well.
Oh, and the toshiba drivers had powermizer..most modded drivers will not. -
-
if it does, revert to the previous driver.. but, there is no powermizer in the 177.85.
-
I think when I tried 178.13 I uninstalled>rebooted in safe mode> ran driver sweeper> rebooted then installed, and I got the dreaded downclock even when rolling back to previous version. So this time I just uninstalled rebooted DIDN'T run driversweeper and then installed Dox's 178.24 and it made me smile. I guess when I run driver sweeper it removes an important registry setting that keeps the x305 from downclocking. Well that's my guess. But for now this is a keeper.
-
Maybe the ugliest computer I've ever seen
-
Would prolly give ya another 100 pt bump.. AND its OC stable.
