I'm a big Transformers fan, especially the original generation, but the movies I thought were really well done.
That said, what are your thoughts on the new game Transformers War for Cybertron? It seems to get favorable reviews, but not sure if its worth $40 and I haven't seen its price drop anywhere. I have a Best Buy coupon for 10% off but have to pay 6% sales tax, so will still cost me $38.40.
Has anyone here played and what are your thoughts?
-
Well I have heard that it is a good game on consoles, but on PCs... well its a console port, don't expect it to be without issues.
-
Excellent game (best Transformers game by far and one of my top 5-10 games of all time; very fun), but HORRIBLE port. (Worst I've ever seen)
FPS capped at 30 (There is a 3rd party workaround)
Non-customizable controls (3rd party workaround)
No text or voip (no workaround)
No hacking protection (lots of hackers)
Likely no patches coming (horrible PC support) -
-
If you won't miss out on the multiplayer though it's still a great game and worth the money, and it runs well enough even on my fairly old vostro.
-
I played the demo, it was pretty darn fun.
I actually forgot about it, I might have to pick it up... -
There's a demo? On PC or console? I would much prefer for PC.
So it sounds like it has a good single player campaign then?
What kind of DRM does it use? If single player is good, but multiplayer is forgettable, maybe I'll buy the boxed copy and pass it on to a buddy when I'm done. -
its definitely a yay
i bought it more for the single player campaign; its also based on gen1 and not the movies.
there was an fps unlocker posted in the forums a few months back for this game so the capped fps aint no problem
the lack of voip though is a huge letdown, also when someone quits in mp you gotta restart and get kicked to the lobby.
however i feel the game is a worthy buy, also im not sure about the no patch for pc thing. maybe if they had more pc sales then they would def patch the voip etc. -
What kind of DRM if any? Can I install it then when I'm done, uninstall it, and pass it on to someone else to play? I've just bought several games in Steam that were great single player games but when I was done, it just sits in my account and no way to let someone else play it. If this is the case, then I'd like to sell or give it to somoene else when done.
-
I haven't played the campaign, but I've seen some walkthrough's and it looks a lot like the multiplayer, but with the CPU and missions.
The multiplayer was a lot of fun though. Running around and then switching into a car, then shooting enemies, than a surprise attack as I switch out of the car and beat em' down. -
I bought that game from Amazon and really enjoyed it so far. If you are a fan it is a must buy, you will love it. They have the personality and voices of the Transformers spot on, as well as the humor. Yes it is a bad console port in many ways but none of that matters to me since I am only interested in single player and I use my Xbox 360 controller. It is the only worth while Transformers game for the PC.
-
Thanks. I may just have to buy a copy then.
-
There is a zero punctuation review, if you want to hear the worst side of it before buying.
I wouldn't pay full price for it; maybe if I found it in the right bargain bin, though. -
This game is BAD, I'll tell you why, and this is sad, because if it wern't for that then it would be awesome. It is bad Beacuse *Drum roll* THERE IS NO SUPPORT, what so ever for this game.
so why is support important? Well for one you have hackers, not even hackers, fricken trainers work on online multiplayer. So whatever trainer you find it'll work on multiplayer may it be RAPID fire, Unlimited Ammo, Health, I mean Please..... Part of me says $hit I shouldn't have said that out loud the less people that know the better, but the truth is the truth, and now you know. -
Well, like I said, if SP campaign is good, then it may be worth it. But if MP is hosed then maybe best to just wait for it to drop in price since then I don't have to worry about MP servers available or not.
-
I bought it and loved it... In fact I didn't even know it had multiplayer. I prefer Multiplayer dedicated games anyway. It's only cause of the annoying button mashers that every game needs tacked on multiplayer these days.
-
It clearly is a "YAY". SP is fun as hell and it ran great on my dv5 without any crash or anything like that.
MP is Great too.
You can do fun stuff. You kill one enemy then transform to go to the next enemy then transform back right on his face and melee him or go at higher platform transform into the vehicle then jump off transform back in mid air and melee the flying transformers, man it so much FUN. -
I am a complete dork over the original G1 transformers, my gf hates that i still have all my toys hiding in the closet
, and this game is sooooo full of WIN, the story is soo nicely strung together, it gets really repetitive after a while, kill guys move up kill guys move up, but its soo gratifying. The final battles for both compaigns are soo epically fun, they also pepper air combat in after a couple levels and its soo much fun flying around waisiting enemies, then transforming for a quick snipe at a robot yards away. Story is far from cannon but that doesnt deter much, the transformations are more function rather then object based, like a useless radio or a walther pistol. I give it overall from a transformer fan 8/10 , textures could be a bit sharper and less bloated, I blame unreal engine for this, I hate that engine sooooo much, and the repetitive nature of missions is the other -1, but other than that everything else is top notch, even the surround sound mix is incredible, and original optimus voice is a very nice touch.
-
Alright, you've sold me. Looks like I'm gonna have to buy it. I have a number of G1 Transfomers from 25 years ago sitting in a box in my attic. Well used though, otherwise they'd probably be worth thousands.

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
I'd wait for a price drop or sale. I think the SP is probably pretty fun but the state of it's "portedness" leaves me to believe this is definitely a bargain title. But then again I am a cheap gamer and rarely buy games at full price (maybe 2/year).
-
I will agree prices of games in general are rediculous and the story is short even on hard, but appearently the multiplayer is a boomin on the pc, lotsa of people running around and blowing up robots then flying away to battle out a dog fight in the air.
Its def the best attempt at a tf video game so far, compared to the ps2 and the movie itteration on current consoles, this one is a winner in my books and any tf fan that passes this up is missing out. -
can't you buy this on steam? maybe wait for a steam deal?
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Don't get me wrong I play my PS3 a lot and my Wii a bit and love them both. But when companies release PC games that are obviously poorly ported, why should anyone support them? It only justifies their lack of attention to the medium. -

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
So your PC is just a glorified 360... I am happy for you. But some of us enjoy KB/Mouse controls as well as the other institutions diminishing with PC games these days. In particular here is a list specific to this game. Some of these don't bug me as much as others but by supporting games like this, that are obvious rush jobs (on PC), you aren't doing yourself or PC gaming any favours. Suit yourself *shrugs*

The Controls
Controls are not convenient to say the least, keyboard keys can’t be remapped as the game doesn’t allow you to edit your controls.
No LAN Support
Transformers War For Cybertron has no LAN support. It features an online lobby system, similar to Modern Warfare 2. It turns out, you will be playing with people online on random selection, and yeah lag will be there.
30 FPS Locked
The game is locked at 30 FPS, it means, it doesn’t matter how powerful your machine is, you won’t be enjoying fast smoother online gameplay experience. Developer argues that the game is well optimized to play with 30 FPS, but why lock it? atleast give me a chance to unleash the power of ATI HD 5870.
No Tweaking, Config Files Encrypted
In case you were hoping to manually bypass these limits, surprise surprise, the configuration files for the game are encrypted, so don’t bother.
No In-Game Chat
I can’t believe it, the game doesn’t support either text or in-game voice chat feature. What on Earth, High Moon Studios were thinking ?
No Dedicated Server Support
Transformers War For Cybertron won’t have any dedicated servers.
No Graphic Config
You can’t configure your graphics in Transformers War For CyberTron.
No Mouse Acceleration On/Off Option
Game doesn’t have any option to switch on/off mouse acceleration.
No Ping Listing
During multiplayer online gameplay, you won’t know at what ping you are playing as the game doesn’t show any ping listing or bars which indicate whether you are in green playable zone or red unplayable zone.
Only Two MP Game Modes
Transformers War For CyberTron has only two multiplayer game modes, Team Death Match, and Capture the Flag.
No DLC For PC
PC version of the game will have no DLC. -
I really like the game, but as others have said, the multiplayer could have been done a lot better. But the single player is pretty lenghty and fun. Barely played escalation mode, but its basically Nazi Zombies (as with the other CoD ripoffs in the game as well).

Fix Transformers: War for Cybertron for PC Petition -
Well, I guess I'm ok with a quality SP Campaign. MP would have been nice, and may try it for a bit, but not an end game for me.
Does it play well using a keyboard and mouse? -
it is a Nay from me... this game is crippled.
-
Great bargain price game if you can find it on the cheap. Limitations are there but still lots of fun.
Transformers War for Cybertron - yay or nay?
