HiRez gave them to me to promote TA. Alternatively, you can preorder the game for $30 and get beta access (all progression made in beta persists through release).

I remember the original Tribes from wayyyy back.

It looks like it may be worth picking up. I'm going to check out multiplayer trailers/videos (if there is any posted yet).

Thanks for reminding me about this one. I loved the first Tribes, never played successive ones.

Bought Global Agenda on release date, brought back some great memories. Don't know that I'll drop $30 for a beta when there are so many great games around now, I'll just cross my fingers for a key.

Originally, Global Agenda was actually kind of similar to Tribes Ascend. Very PvP focused. They kind of switched directions a few months after release. =\

[VGS] man I haven't play Tribes in ages and I clearly suck at it. I'm not too happy that they made skiing so easy. I liked the challenge of timing it correctly in T1 :)

Unfortunately I've got a Beta key and can't use it do to my crap internet over here, but I'm looking forward to trying it out next month when I go on R&R.
I don't really think it should be compared too closely with the original tribes seeing as this is a different developer and those games are 10+ years old. This is, however, the only recent fast paced FPS on the market since Quake Live and should be enjoyed for that alone. I'm hoping that this hits the competitive gaming scene as I plan on playing it an awful lot.

those are some sweet trailers !!

I took a short break from the beta for a while, but logged in yesterday to find that RAINDANCE was created!! Oh the nostalgia from T1!

I hope this game makes it far, especially once ranked matches and custom servers are live.

I have just started playing this game, and it is very, very well made. The graphics are fantastic for a free-to-play and the gameplay is really addicting. It reminds me of Quake 3 (fast paced and lots of air on jumps) which makes it a winner in my opinion.

very skill based, teamwork friendly game

the skill cap is off the charts compared to modern shooters, and they captured much of the spirit and the feel of the old games quite well

I have the game and have been playing since 2 weeks ago (just before beta became the full-monte). I have to say I'm impressed and it's not like any other shooter I've played. Fantastic graphics for maps soooo big.

I still am not akin to the microtransaction model, however, and thus far has left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Can I just make a one-time payment of $50 and just get all that there is to buy or are they going to milk everyone for all they can? A little more in-depth explanation of this would be appreciated. And no, I haven't watched that video on the first page yet. I will now...

You can unlock items, upgrades and classes in whatever order you see fit, so you can get one class to proficiency relatively quickly even compared to modern paid games that have a progressive unlock system. Also, since unlocking classes doesn't cost much XP, you can experiment with a variety of classes early before investing a larger amount of XP to upgrade your equipment and class weapons.

Second, once you've made a single purchase, you permanently get XP at a significantly higher rate than before (150% I think) - which makes unlocks come at a much faster rate.

Haha too true. It's just something that is very different from all games. It's free. And it is a lot of fun. Especially with a friend. I would much rather play this than any other multiplayer game out right now. It's as much fun as battlefield 3 to me.
