Tribes: Ascend

Hey guys,

I thought I'd start a thread about Tribes: Ascend since I didn't see one.

Coming from someone who has played the original Tribes and Tribes 2 for thousands of hours. I must say I'm impressed so far with how well done Tribes Ascend is, especially since it's free to play.

What do you guys think? Worse/Same/Better than previous versions?

Also, I'm running it on a M17x with 560m, but it is struggling to maintain playable frame rates even at 720p and all settings set to the lowest possible. Anyone encountered this issue?

perhaps it's your internet connection?

I was able to run it at 1080p with a bit of lag and at 1600x900 it runs very smooth. My GPU is much weaker than your 560m.

 

I hve an NP8130 and playing with a 560m at 1980x1050 it runs absolutely smoothly at high setting or whatever they are called. Looks pretty damn good too.

Game is amazing also. I played the original Tribes a hell of a lot (Starsiege) and no iterations since. Massive nostalgia.

 

It turns out Optimus was not triggering the 560m to turn on, thus only using the intel graphics card and resulting in low frame rate. To fix this, I added the Tribes executable to the Nvidia apps list and also set the 560m to run my default whenever the laptop is plugged in.

 

Do you guys have a favorite class yet? I am running either pathfinder or infiltraitor.

 

Soldier. It just seems basic.

I'm loving the game so far, it's pretty fun when you pull of skill shots.

 

I mainly play as Pathfinder capper. Nothing like 'yoinking' that flag at 280mph!

But if absolutely no one is in defense i load up doombringer for HoF or Tech for some turret support

 

usually a pathfinder, to peck away at the other team and to chase the opposing flag chasers

I'm also a _great_ XP booster for the opposing team lol

 

I was going to play, but it annoys me that their patch service runs constantly in the background, taking up something like 4% of my overclocked i5-2500K's CPU usage. There's no excuse for that.

 

Solider is great. I found out you can get the spinfusor for free from a promotional that mmorpg.com is doing. It's pretty sick. Does about 200 more damage per shot than the light spinfusor, making solider class my favorite combat class for team deathmatch (esp with the ugpraded back/armor I've got 150 starting energy).

Absolutely dude! Love getting that flag at crazy speeds... though I've never even gone 280 . My top speed is like 230. How do you go faster? lol

Nice. That's my favorite CTF class.

When you download/install the game, you have the option of disabling the patch service from running all the time. Maybe they just added that feature? I don't know but you can turn it off now.

If anyone want's play, add me "Quadron". I want to start a Tribes: Ascend sometime soon. I think it would be awesome to play with a group of players who actually play as a team.

 

I've only played as a juggernaut so far.
