The catch for this free game like some others I had played in the past is a lot of the cool stuff cost real money.
I think all of it is optional stuff in this game like mounts/cloths/ect unlike some of the other free games where the stuff was kind of mandatory if you were serious because it included weapons and things that were much better than the stuff you can get in game.

The plus side is that you can always buy these items from other players who do spend real cash, but in reality, in the long run, just keeping a constant supply of charms is a full-time commitment, and you'll end up having very little time to play if you go this route.
It wasn't unusual to see some of the players who have spent $3000+ USD on cash shop items on the MY server....
The other problem with PW is that once you hit the 90s, leveling is so incredibly slow and expensive, and there's a serious lack of endgame content. You can engage in territory wars every week, and farm dungeons or grind...that's about it.
The skill system is kind of shallow too. Some of the higher skills look cool, but that wears off fast and you realize there's really not much to them. -

this game was alright to start, but then you realize its necessary to pay for items to have fun. Overall, I would give this game a 6 out of 10. It has alright graphics at least for a free game, it kept me entertained for awhile, but it comes nowhere near any pay mmo. Guildwars for a one time pay price is a much better choise than this game imo.

I can't wait for Darkfall.
Cut the grind right out. -

Well, I paid some money for donor gear in WoW Scape a private World of Warcraft server, its definitely not mandatory in that game but you will get super owned by a donor in pvp
I figured not paying a monthly fee to play real wow and I like the private server much more that it was worth it.
I also was about to spend a bit of money on O2 Jam before they suddenly cut off access for US players I really really liked that game, think DDR but with a keyboard and it uses 7 keys, sort of like playing a piano and you can go head to head against like 7 people at once with good music and whats better than DDR is you are actually PLAYING the music, each key has a tone/sound associated with it so when you miss a key or your timing is off you noticeably mess up the song. DDR when you miss something it does nothing. -
So u have to buy all the good items in PW? or something?

Is this game ok to play only if you can on occasion on your own and without a set group of people? I've been interested in MMORPG's, but it seems you need to be online 40 hrs/week and with the same people all the time.

Really, there is no game that can compete with the pre-level cap solo experience of World of Warcraft. Leveling characters in that game is fantastic, especially your first time. Perfect World is not too bad at the lower levels but already by level 20 I am tired of the "Slaughter 20 Baddies" quests. I'm also a little disappointed in the very few battle skills to learn, and on top of that you are limited by something called "spirit" which is needed to even purchase new skills or upgrades. -
By the comments of the NBR members here i think this game is a thumbs down...
mostly because of the "spend real-life money to even have fun" system.
Guess this game isnt really what i was looking for.. -

Also no need to knock on the game because some items end game may cost money, you dont NEED them. If your so serious about the game and by the time you hit high level you probably do not mind tossing some money into it. By then you have spent hours upon hours playing. I mean to put this in perspective a 2 hour movie can set you back $14 with no refreshments at the theater (plus gas cost lol), if a game holds you down for 40 hours before something comes up that you may want for $5 is that really so bad? All the low levels and stuff are still a joy, and what do you expect is there really any way to have a 110% free game stay afloat? They have to have money come in somehow to pay for servers and employees ect. For a free game tho this one by far is nicer than the rest I have seen. -
Does anyone know if this will play ok on a 1.6Ghz processor?
It's been playing flawlessly on my dv5 of course but I want my brother to start playing on my old Sony Vaio: http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Sony-Sony-Vaio-N11S-Duo-T2050-1GB-100GB-DVDRW-15-4-XP-MCE
Started playing this week, awesome game. I only have low levels and my Archer's run out of arrows already lol -

Glad to see this game getting some attention here. It's pretty graphically intense considering the code is more or less the same from the original one in China (~2004) and you can get pretty good performance from just about any level of hardware depending on your configuration.
You don't NEED to pay for the cash shop items. While it makes it a bit easier at times you can accomplish much the same with apothecary (self-made) potions and store bought potions (and remembering to meditate to recover hp/mp). The cash shop is more to make life easier (faster speed mounts and charms that help you stay alive) and add a bit of spice to the game (fashion for customization and pretty cool looking fireworks among other things).
I'd advise not putting too much money into it as it is rather addicting. This international version is US based and they seem to be pretty serious about taking care of their players and constantly updating the server. We've gotten a patch every Monday or so since the server started in Mid-September. Right now there's a Halloween lottery game for a Sleepy Hollow styled horse and faster flying tools, and players who pay for cash shop items sell them to other players for in game gold.
There's still territory that's up for grabs by guilds (called factions), and the newbie areas are still fairly saturated if you need to group up. Like all MMOs you do have to do grinding to get by, and the daily quests that you get are money sinks to control inflation. The game's pretty heavily quest based until your mid to late 40s, and you continue to get quests at a slower clip at later levels. Decent storyline but not really as deep as say, a Final Fantasy game.
PvP's pretty well fleshed out. You can kill a weaker opponent by just spamming skills but at later levels you'll have to do some thinking and planning. PvE server has a decent PvP mode to it (flagging yourself for 10 hours), and I see quite a few in PvP mode on the PvE server (if you don't feel like being attacked randomly because anyone over level 30 can kill anyone in a PvP server).
Forums are fairly active and there's a pretty comprehensive help section there as well. It's still open beta so there are a few bugs and translation errors, but there's a helpful ticketing section on the company's site to report on issues. GMs on the forums and in game are usually slow to respond but almost always helpful (unlike many free MMORPGs).
I don't know what else to add here... go look at the forums for more info. -
yep really good game
i can't believe that the gpu requirements are that high for it to run full
however, if you have a crappy video card, you can still play it and it will still look nice. -

Has anybody tried Atlantica? I just ran into it the other day when an add popped up on the site I was downloading the new tomb raider demo from.
Its another free MMO, its in open beta stage, whats so interesting about it is that its TURN BASED, strategy like combat. Something I know people wanted for a really long time.
I downloaded it, registered, and have it installed but have not had time to try it out yet. -
Partying with up to 2 friends allow you to field up to 27 characters per battle at once.
There are also a number of "licenses" which make your life easier (auto-move to an NPC, quest location, person, town, etc.; teleport; etc.)...these expire (usual duration for a non-quest license is about 24 hours). Presumably, these would be how Atlantica intended to make its money from the cash shop (which wasn't available when I played during beta, when licenses were freely given out by GMs)...
You can also upgrade your mercs, which involves a fair amount of farming, but nothing compared to the scale of most other asian mmorpgs. You can bet better, more specialized mercs by undertaking long quest chains that usually require partying. They're not really that hard though, and you end up doing all quests anyway.
There's also a "stamina" system in the game to limit you to a certain # of battles per day (and of course you can buy more from the cash shop)...
Open PK doesn't really exist. There's PVP in the form of individual duals or matches that you can set up against others. There's also a free league tournament where you can compete to get higher rank (which is necessary for various things) or win other prizes.
It's a fun game... doesn't hurt to try it since it's free anyway. -

I got to play some today, reminded me of the good old playstation days some when I used to play final fantasy tactics or vandal hearts.
The game needs polish for sure but for a free game its a good time killer.
Try Perfect World Its Great :)
